The SA2 Steam port completely broke the rail grinding system, and turned a unique feature into a braindead button holding fest. Watch BlazeHedgehog's "Definitive Way to Play Sonic Adventure 2" vid for more info on that. The lighting and sound mixing also suffered INCREDIBLY badly. SA2's port is pretty rough compared to the Dreamcast original.

@@DanRockProductions It did not, I've played SA2 on both PS3 and PC and grind rails are perfectly functional, with the full momentum and balance systems in place. If you bothered to play the game or even just listen you'd realize it's not that big a deal, possibly even coming down to general analog sensitivity that isn't the same for everyone. As for sound balancing, yeah that's a problem, but it's also been a problem since the beginning, and personally I liked to just accept it as part of SA2's cheese. Graphical errors, while numerous, tend to be pretty inconsequential to the experience of playing the game and the style of its aesthetics. SADX, on the other hand, is an entirely different beast.

@@hahasamian8010 "if I bothered to play the game" alone shows that you know absolutely nothing about me because I have literally streamed SA2 before on this very channel, but good attempt. If you wanna tell the developers of the Input Control Mod that their mod does "nothing" to fix the grind rails, I'm sure they'd be happy to educate you further

I'll break it down for you and then I'm muting this thread: -I have indeed played Sonic Adventure 2, multiple times on this KZbin channel, dating all the way back to 2012. Very easily findable with a quick search actually! -BlazeHedgehog has a lovely video explaining exactly how the grind rails do not work properly in either the PS3 or Steam versions. I implore you to watch it. -Mods literally exist to fix this issue. Why would mods exist if it worked flawlessly? Come on dude.

Correct. Weird that Sega rushed SADX when it still came out on GameCube after SA2 Battle. You'd think with the mistakes they made in SA2 Battle they would fix the ones in SADX before release. Ah well.

Battle and DX are still DLC on Steam so you pay extra for those.

Animations get ruined, textures get muddied, audio gets really crunchy, lighting is broken or nearly nonexistent, collision is broken in multiple spots. @@levileavitt6393 Thank you for the information. I just grew up playing DX and I watch videos of both the OG adventures and DX and on the surface without playing the OG it looks to me like DX looks far better in comparison. I’ll watch this video and maybe reevaluate my opinion

Better textures, better reflections and lighting even before the RTX mod, less glitching in gameplay, better audio control, really the one thing the DX version has going for it on GameCube are the Game Gear games you can unlock.

@@reefkenig5874 I sort of did too. The only part of the original SA1 i got to play back in the day was running around Station Square on a kiosk in a store. DX was my first version i completed and then i eventually tracked down a Dreamcast and got my own copies of SA1 and 2. Honestly they are mostly the same with minor differences.

Welcome to gaming in 2024, everyone is a game critic instead of actually enjoying the game itself, and people also seem to follow whatever trendy opinion is on said game

In this case, the trends aren't entirely wrong. I played SADX back when it was new, all the way up until I bought my Dreamcast in 2015ish and never really noticed the flaws until I played the original version. The port was noticeably rushed and suffers in a lot of areas. I wish Sega would make the OG Dreamcast version more accessible to more people 🤷

The bonus missions and GameGear games are cool additions! I just wish the high quality lighting and collision detection wasn't lost in translation

Played SA2 on Dreamcast first and then GC. Aside from the stuff that got cut and some of the graphical glitches, it was the same game with extra stuff in multiplayer modes. At least now with mods we can fix any errors the game had in the Battle version and play it as if it came out on the Dreamcast as a special edition or something.

@@MacUser2-il2cx the GameCube port of SA2 was totally solid! I wish the HD versions had the love that Battle got. They're still decent for what they are!

The PC port was indeed the version they used for the Steam and 7th gen release, but it was a port *OF* the GameCube version, which even back then had collision issues and incorrect textures/UV maps. The Gamespot review from 2003 was one of the first to bring the issues to light, and that was a review of the GameCube version, not the PC port.
