I've owned 3 phones that were from Google. While it's true that each improved over the last , they were always plagued with problems largely because Google decided to cut corners. Each time I was told a story about how software would make up for the phone's intrinsic hardware deficiencies. It never did! I shopped for a new phone and looked at the Pixel 9. It looks and feels terrific... but it's chip set is SIGNIFICANTLY less powerful than many other phones that cost far less. The new story: "chipset doesn't matter in real world use". --- I'm not buying it... So I didn't .

You are totally right, I'm a AAA mobile game engineer and I've bought a pixel 7 like a year ago... I've lasted with it 6 months, I had several issues with it, from overheating, stuttering (this a lot) and the worst, the phone signal... Why do I have to want a phone that cant receive signal, the trigger point was when I was in a store where I needed internet and I had to switch my SIM to a mid range phone to get signal. After that I've switched to an S23 ultra and I never looked back

It wasnt never a problem that google decided to design their own chips, it was because of them deciding to use samsung manufacturing process which is by inferior compared to tsmc(still like generation behind tsmc right now). Google is the biggest loser in this deal between google and samsung. Samsung can use all of google's software goodies (gemini nano and google cloud to process some of the ai things at least for now until deal is ended at the end of 2025) when google get to use samsung hardware with exynos modems that historically has been bad and now they are perhaps usable(but qualcomm still has better modems). I hope google decides to use qualcomm modems now and tsmc in on the way so that solves all of the weaknesses with that phone.

Seems like Google has decided on a Media Tek modem to keep costs down Based on the leaks. Qualcomm is expensive. Media Tek is not as bad as it once was so I'll see how it goes for the Pixel 10

But they're priced the same as the other top contenders, and their cpus are just so far behind the price doesn't make sense. My Pixel 9 pro XL is my second pixel. I had the pixel 7 pro before and switched to Samsung and also to iPhone before getting this one. My main issue hasn't been performance speed necessarily but consistency. This phone has great battery life when I first got it back in September on Android 14. Now in December after a couple updates it feels like standby time is still okay but battery life while using it is not as good.

Yes, I've used 3 generations of pixel, and the major downsides are exactly performance and some issues with build quality. The midrange a versions should be a steer clear if performance matters to you.

I've been rocking the Pixel 6 and wanted to upgrade this year but because I'm getting android 16 I think I'll just hold on a bit. The idea is that I love how Pixel devices get frequent and early updates. My only downside is that the Pixel 6 overheats alot but I'm a student so I don't game alot. Google Pixel has been evolving since the Pixel 6 series and I think I'm not switching to another brand anytime soon.

I just moved up to the OnePlus 12 from the pixel 6 for me it is a night and day improvement. Really enjoyed the 6... but the battery life, slow charging, and overheating in the sun did it for me. I think in today's market you can't really go wrong.

I use my pixel 6 and pixel 8 pro daily. The pixel 6 has come a long way from the issues it first had. That were fixed with software. In terms of the heat connectivity believe it or not it's Samsung modems and manufacturing process for the tensor chips that have caused Google problems. Although the pixel 9 is much better Google is still leaving Samsung to make a better chip for the pixel 10

One way google could increase their market share is to lower the price of their "flagship" phones to the level of the midrange phones that they are. If the Pixel 9 was $500, the pro $600 and the pro xl $700 then they would sell a lot more, by making the 9pro cost over $1000 they are kicking themselves because anyone willing to shell out that much for a phone would buy a Samsung if they didn't want an iPhone.

There's no way they're reducing the price that low. Personally I think the Pixel 9 Pro XL priced at $1000 is a good first step. Pricing your phone that low will set you back because people will think it's cheaply made. It's almost an exclusivity thing. They did the price reduction with the Pixel 7/Pro and 8/Pro. The sales did not match. With the 9 series, they've seen a bit of growth so it does make sense.

The Software of the pixels is very good. I had the Pixel 4xl and then the Pixel 7. But the Hardware is garbage. Both phones didnt live longer than 1 year. The Pixel 4 xl wont charge and the Pixel 7 has a black Screen. Dont buy Pixel Smartphones for the overprized price now. Let Google know that they must improve.

The Pixel 4 biggest problem was battery life. Back then Google was being too cheap or playing it safe. That was the reason I didn't buy a pixel 4 after using a Pixel 2 and went to Samsung. I missed the software of the Pixel so much and I got so many spam calls it was ridiculous and even my old Pixel 2 was taking better pics than my Galaxy note 10+. However with the problems I had with my Samsung I went back to Pixel and never looked back. I have the Pixel 6 and the 8 pro. Are they perfect no but no phone is.

yes, google needs to work on performance but also, they have to make their Ui better. I mean I know it is stock android, but it only has ai features and google does not have basic customization options, their pixel launcher is boring. even the iPhone has more customization options built in more than the pixel and the pixel don't even have the double tap to lock feature. I use the Pixel 6 too.Why switch brands if Google has been working on the issues of it's tensor powered phones? You got the first generation of tensor with issues and the Pixel 9 series fixed connectivity and battery life. Also what KJ didn't mention is that a big reason for the issues of tensor is related to Google using Samsung's manufacturing process and Samsung modems. Even though the pixel 9 is much better Google is still leaving Samsung for a company that makes the Snapdragon chips and Apple chips
