I remember the 100th anniversary branded tools. A set of the 1/4 drive sockets and ratchet( 100 pieces in total) was 2400$! The Snapon vendor would take any sockets( any brand any drive) for 10$ a piece as a trade in for the set, up to 100 pieces….so you could get the Snapon set for 1400$. I hope it makes sense what I tried to say, English is not my first language( still working on it, I’m not offended if people are well intended and correct me😉) I like tools made in US, I remember being back in my home country and coming across anything that was made in the US it was such a big deal, it represented quality something made to last. I have read that Snap On is going to start requiring receipts for warranty claims. Here is a story about it www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=161863 On one side of the argument, it screws mechanics who have been working for many years, because, who saves a receipt from 20 years ago, but on the other hand, it stops the guy that buys a pile of rusty broken tools on eBay for a few dollars and then wants to warranty them out for several hundred dollars worth of brand new tools. Even though the tool may have a lifetime warranty, the dealers are not obligated to warranty a tool that they did not sell to you........that is just a courtesy that they can exercise at their own discretion.
@bobbyw90465 жыл бұрын
Mr Koon, No disrespect here but I can not stay silent any longer! I own many S-O tools and have for many years. I will no longer purchase new ones!! I KNOW their prices have always been high but now-days they have reached "stupid money" status! Not just that, but NOW S-O has some real serious competition that is just about as good or very close to them and at 20 - 25% of the cost! Almost ALL tools now carry a lifetime warranty so that is no bragging point any longer. Yes, S-O boxes are probably the best - but that said, I own other brands of boxes (as well as S-O's) for over 40 years and have NEVER broken or damaged one (not even some of the old Craftsman cones). Snap-on has now become mechanic's "Gucci "and for the most part will get a job done no faster or no better than Channel lock, Milwaukee, Capri, Kobalt, Gear-wrench, Knipex, etc. etc. If all the hard working guys had the money they spent on S-O tool invested, they could probably retire 5 years earlier! What's worse is that when we die, the S-O collections will go for penny's on the dollar - as most widows and relatives won't piece them out on ebay piece by piece - they will just sell them in a lot - cheap to clear them out. So I have recently purchased some Gear Wrench, Tekton, Milwaukee and Knipex tools and not only do they work perfectly fine they were at least 70 - 80% less in cost - all with lifetime warranty and pretty descent quality tools. Not only are the S-O prices off the chart crazy but their financing fees are highway robbery as well. I don't really expect to convert anyone here but at least I might start to get some to open up their eyes and see what they are doing. Well - I feel better. I do enjoy your channel but hate to see your shop keep pouring their hard earned money into S-O's pockets. What really makes me want to puke is when I hear guys brag how much they own their S-O dealer - that's pathetic!
@KoonTrucking5 жыл бұрын
No doubt there are cheaper alternatives and I have even said that myself. In fact I have shown tools that I have that I prefer over Snap On not only for price but just the feel of the tool itself. That’s one thing you won’t ever hear me brag about is how much I owe my snap on guy. Honestly for as much snap on stuff as I own, my debt to Snap On is not nearly as bad as what many people would think, but with that being said I have paid my snap on guy some payments that were $1000 at a time. It’s sad how much some of it cost but it’s also quality but I feel Snap On has reached the stratosphere in pricing, at some point people will say enough is enough and the glorious run will come to a halt.

Well guys. My local snap on dealer does the same thing. Won't warranty a tool unless u bought it from him. To the effect, you can't even buy a tool from ur buddy in the same shop. Cause he won't warranty it then. Pretty lame!

I wouldn’t even set foot on his truck. I would but carlyle tools from NAPA or harbor freight and when he walked in each week I wouldn’t even acknowledge him being there. What a loser
