It’s nice to hear that the government will be subsidizing businesses, including small ones, that have to change large portions of their marketing but this definitely feels avoidant of the issue. The word “drug” having a kind of positive connotation isn’t what drives people to do them. Drugs are already stigmatized in the country regardless of this popular usage so how is the country addressing the issues that systemically connect increased drug consumption and drug seeking behavior?
@yari139

Uh yeah, you wanna know what the biggest reason for the surging drug problem in Korea is? ✨Foreigners✨ It’s not a “systemic issue”.
@peachy-frog
@peachy-frog 4 ай бұрын
@@yari139while that is definitely a factor, you can’t solely blame foreigners when drugs are also a lowkey not talked about issue in SK because the government likes to keep it downlow, or ignore the overall issue by banning all drugs (except for alcohol and you wonder why alcoholism and drinking culture is huge because there was no other vice) people will still find a way to

@@yari139 sure, lets ignore the fact that south koreans are mentally struggling due to the insane workplace and educational culture, and if you dare speak out against these issues and dont conform to their standards you are practically an outcast. but sure, lets blame it ALL on those 'dirty foreigners'. surely that won't make S.K and even more xenophobic country than it already is, right?
@mal-cd9zn
@mal-cd9zn 4 ай бұрын
@@peachy-frogexactly. its fucking dumb as hell to be so xenophobic for NOTHING when the problems are literally all systemic but people just want a group of people to blame because it's 'easier' to think about. if the average S.K salaryman is so stressed every day to the point of alcoholism, wouldn't they seek other damaging methods of coping like taking drugs? if there wasnt a demand, there wouldn't be supply. if people are doing mentally good, only a few would ever try drugs because they know it wouldn't be worth it. dismissing the fact that its a systemic issue entirely is just wrong and not based in facts at all.
@yari139
@yari139 4 ай бұрын
@@peachy-frog why do you people on the Internet not know how to read? Did I say foreigners were solely responsible? No, I did not. I said the biggest problem, because they are. Let me help you think critically here. If the government has any and all drugs banned, which they had good reason to, how do you think the people are sourcing the drugs and paraphernalia? From external sources. From foreigners. The vast majority of the drug crimes happen in Gangnam, where all the foreigners hang out and foreign students are the ones most frequently caught trafficking meth. The ban was working just fine until like 10 years ago when everyone was discovering kpop and became koreaboos and started to go to Korea because it’s “trendy”. Like, the numbers are all literally out there for the world to see.

Wow how do you do that? Do you slice the egg?
@dinaaqilah
@dinaaqilah 4 ай бұрын
@@katiekey4643 hahah its actually happened unintentionally. when i was peeling the eggs, the egg is still sticking to the shell, thus cause the egg to torn a bit here and there. so from the torn part, the soy sauce seeped thru and get into the yolk. very recommended to let the yolk marinate together tbh!

At least they are offering financial support. While I don’t agree with tough on crime and the taboo nature it creates around drugs which further disables people from seeking aid. I understand the why behind banning it. But also people do and say what they want at the end of the day. In the US we say drug terms in speak all the time but that don’t make you a druggie

in Malayalam (the language of Kerala, South India) trippy or hallucinogenic things are called mayak as in മയക്കുമരുന്ന് (mayak-marunn) it's always so cool how languages are interconnected. whenever i heard of mayak eggs, I'd laugh to myself thinking if it was addictive like a drug, now it makes sense!

@mattuwu9978
@mattuwu9978 3 ай бұрын
@@RebaMcImTired yeah, I just think it’s hypocritical that these countries with super strict laws against “street drugs” - including cannabis, which isn’t addictive and serves important medical functions - almost _always_ have cultures that basically encourage functional alcoholism. Considering the fact that alcohol is the _only_ drug that can _kill you_ if you go cold turkey (hospitals keep bags and bottles of alcohol on hand for that reason), it’s pretty ridiculous.
@RebaMcImTired
@RebaMcImTired 3 ай бұрын
@@mattuwu9978 True. Marijuana is still pretty controversial just in general. Some recreational drugs can also kill you if you quit cold turkey. I believe benzos can?
@mattuwu9978
@mattuwu9978 3 ай бұрын
@@RebaMcImTired you’re right that benzos withdrawals can also cause death (thru seizures). But it’s important to note that the risks associated with alcohol withdrawals are more numerous and dangerous; like Delirium Tremens, which can cause permanent neurological complications. I just wish more people understood how addictive and dangerous alcohol truly is. It should be treated with the same (if not more) caution that any other “street drug” is treated with, imo. I know it never will be, but one can hope. 😕

Yes, ban words from food labels, that will surely help the underlying social problems that lead to despair and consumption of substances 🙄 I find this story to be really sad. The food here looks yummy and adorable, but how absurd is this ban? It has zero positive effect on what is really going on

They will do anything but address the real issue. The economic situation in every country is so hopeless in everywhere right now. Job security, quality of life everything is going downhill leading people to turn to substance a*buse. Instead of doing something about that they are banning words. Yeah that will surely solve the problem 🙄

Saying it's a drug-free country sounds misleading. Many things can be drugs and what is considered dangerous or regulated depends on the country's various governmental organizations. Alcohol and tobacco are drugs and have many ill effects, but are allowed in Korea, and many other places, due to their history and cultural significance. This policy seems like it's missing the forest for the trees, bc (anecdotally) I never heard of people trying drugs just bc they heard someone say a food is like crack.
