This is WHY the PLASTIC SURGERY is also a common practice there. It’s extremely profitable but people remember that NO COUNTRY is PERFECT. The other problem is the ones WHO believe the ARTIFICIAL and ILLUSION is REAL. 😢❤

That beauty standard is absurd, even within 'koreans'. The reality is that the minority of the media doesn't really present the general people there. My advice to most is be yourself, be healthy and above all be happy!

If you go to Korea you'll see beautiful ppl are the majority. Almost every single woman you come across is dressed in fashionable clothes and makeup. It's one of the hardest countries to be a female in because there's a societal pressure to always be well put together when you step outside. My family has a lot of Korean marriages from being stationed there in the military.

@@dontcare7086True. Koreans dress really well and take care of themselves (their skin, make-up). It's not only plastic surgery.

To this day, the existence of beauty standards never ceases to amaze me. It's probably because I live in a country where people just accept you for who you are and doesn't really care about what you look like. You could be pale, brown, black or white and you could be tall or short and you could be skinny, fat or just average and no one would give a damn. It's quite nice not to be judged based on your outer shell. Though, I won't deny that people here will judge you based on your behaviour.

@akihasc7047 that's true but it doesn't really affect me much since my parents are pretty well off. Though I can't say the same about everyone else. I only recently found out that people manage their expenses based on a budget and that was also thanks to TV.

social pressures in korea are just enormous that explains its relatively high suicide rate and low birth rate there. Not only its toxic beauty standard, also the other expectations (like status concious) that you have to live up to will push you to the edge. Its almost impossible to boost your selfesteem because people rather want to see flaws in you. I moved to seoul few years ago and I kinda want to go back to NYC because I found the vibe there more liberating and I barely felt like being judged there.

I think all she's saying is that it's difficult to feel beautiful in a society that has very specific beauty standards, especially when it comes to skin color. I think Korea does have influence from other countries when it comes to music, beauty standards, etc... Korea also adopts a lot of music influence from black culture but don't embrace actual black people or find them beautiful. You can see how contradictory this is. Also no one understands how hurtful it is to feel less beautiful bc of your skin color unless they're actually tan or darker. It's a lose-lose situation for people who are not light skinned.
I read once about a beautiful korean actress who had a child they said in the media the child wasn't pretty like the mother but beauty comes from genetic not plastic surgery which the mother had a lot of

I believe the beauty standard is like fashion which comes and goes ..white and pale may be the beauty standard of today but there will come a day when tanned and dark skin is preferred due being healthier and stronger over white skin 😂
@fheuexve10 күн бұрын
contrary to popular belief, many naturally pale people (who dont tan easily) in the West get bullied for looking "too pale", mock them for looking "sickly, unhealthy, ghost", and are often pressured to get a tan. Ironically I even know some asians in asia who have said negative things about the pinkish/cool-toned looking pale skin of europeans too which i find contradicting (i have videos or links of them saying this for proof) pale-shaming is actually common and nothing rare. seems like east asians prefer milky fair skin or very pale skin with some warm tones which is basically the east asian-looking pale skin. *also saying negative things like "pale looks unhealthy/unattractive" or "dark skin looks unattractive" or whatever can lower people's self-esteem, confidence and give insecurities.*

She was an amazing person but the insecurities just ate away at her- so not worth it! Korea is slowly becoming a more multicultural society eventually this standard of beauty will change. I feel sorry for the young girls that aren’t represented on billboards and in the media, or aren’t seen as having any of the standards of beauty. That’s gotta be tough. When you get older you don’t care as much realise it all made up and you discover your own beauty but as a kid, as a teenager it’s awful not to have anything about you seen as beautiful by others. Imagine being biracial in Korea and by biracial i mean something other than white and Asian as these are bothering the markers for beauty standards. Imagine being Asian and black Asian and Hispanic or Indian. I went through something similar in my youth and it was soul crushing. Couldn’t care less now but for over a decade I hated myself on various levels.

I dont agree with this. As an American, i see billboards with older women, women of different sizes in ads and on TV. Stores also sell dolls of all colors and sizes. We are much more open minded to beauty, size, and race. We are NOTHING like Korea--and I was stationed there, so I know.
