I grew up in Trinidad and my mom got up early to fix our lunch kits. Even on school holidays when she had to work. By the time she woke us up at 5 or 6 am, lunch kit was packed, dinner was done and hot breakfast was being placed on the table. There are 3 of us kids (one is autistic), and she worked a corporate job. Lots of hard working moms out here.

tytytytyty how do you get spoiled and entitled from someone saying their mom was great . It’s normal for a mom to wake up and make her kids breakfast and lunch and look after them. She made them of course she will want to take care of them. Unless your mom was different.( don’t mean as an insult but I don’t know ,so sorry if it I offend you. ) Most kids even though their moms cook ,they help with chores .

@mewtje30957 жыл бұрын
Well while I can say that pressure on parents here is big too (especially in regard to school performance) I must say that lunchboxes literally play no role in it at all. Just wondered. :)

In fact, at least from 21 century, school system has changed and almost every schools in korea have meal system instead of hrs of preparing lunchboxes ;) So not many moms do that these days because school feed your kids! (Except for sooneung day, the korean univ entrance exam)
@sanctamachina7 жыл бұрын
Lived in Costa Rica for a year and saw similar structure there. Its something that Western civilization is breaking down for capitalism. We not only have lost the numerous benefits to children from a single focused parent, but also made our society so that those women who truly wish to devote themselves to family cannot afford to do so unless their husband happens to be a very highly paid worker.

In my country, Kenya, how we get them to be tender is we soak the beans in waster over night, usually over night because instead of cooking a small amount like you did we sometimes cook the whole bag you had. After soaking the beans and they are all pruny we then use the same we soaked with and boil the beans for like an hour or more depends on how much beans you have. Usually we use the beans to make this dish called Githeri after adding maize. you can use a pressure cooker to make the process faster, only if you have a lot of beans

Oh my, we have something similar in Martinique (in Guadeloupe too, though). But it’s something we eat for Christmas, or when having a big meal with the family. It has a lot of different spices like the mandatory bay leaf, and sometimes we put small pieces of a pig’s tail or a pig’s snout in it, and it’s sooo good! I will definitely try this version! Thank you Maangchi! It looks amazing!
