Really nice demonstration. Thank you for that. You nailed it when you pointed out that Korg wants to charge you for very basic functions like splits, layers & midi functionality. It is like Korg is thinking in "better" business models rather than in making better music apps and like they are trying to make money out of nowhere.

Very helpful, Im an SampleTank owner and I was thinking if it really worse to buy module pro, and it has really god sounds but, SampleTank does too. And that’s true, there are a lot of things you cand do with it; layers, splits, loops, patterns, tweak, etc and all of it just in Live mode.

Great comparison! The pros & cons you provide for each product are hugely helpful. The usability comparisons for live playing--and reading between the lines, for studio/purist use as well--are very useful. Your Korg Module pricing comments pretty much substantiate my fear of "big nickels & dimes" for hidden upgrades--a turn off for sure. Sampletank seems aboveboard about what comes with each of their products. So as a songwriter (mostly), Sampletank seems like the ticket. If I need better sounds, I can buy Korg Module if a real keys player/bandmate isn't available. Thanks again w/a thumbs up & Subscribe!

I am toying to get module pro but need the function to transpose down a step so will need the extra cost. but after watching your video im now leaning back to investing in sample tank again. I do agree Korg are missing a trick. thanks again.

The Expensive IAP to do layers is absurd in Korg Module Pro. It should be free if you bought 4 or more IAPs. Eventually some artist will release an album using IK Multimedia. Korg disappointed me by selling this layer feature as an extra IAP.

At the time I made the video I was running Korg Module and some of the extended libraries and Sampletank. However, now I run everything through AUM with 3 instances of Korg Module one for E Piano, one for Bass and one for a string pad, a separate instance of an app for Horns and brass, and I use Pure Piano for an acoustic piano. Sometimes I may add a channel in aum for Launchpad to trigger drum loops. That setup runs very stable and it hardly tasks the cpu on the iPad. If you want I be glad to make a video of my current setup. I hope this helps.

I find the pianos in Korg Module, even the ‘premium’ Ivory pianos from Synthogy, just have a flat kind of lifeless sound. The piano offerings from IK Multimedia in SampleTank and iGrand have more character to their sound. I wish the IKMM Apps had more polyphony. They pretty much max out at 64 note polyphony. And they don’t have an algorithm for low note priority. So, if you’re doing an up keyboard arpeggio with the sustain pedal pressed the note stealing becomes quite evident. That is my biggest criticism of SampleTank. There are a couple of other things like the the way certain effects are tied to certain instruments and not an independent effects section that can be tied to any instrument of your choosing. So, improvements can be made. I have both SampleTank and Korg Module Pro, with many of the additional add on sounds for both. I have many other sound modules from other companies, as well. I never use Korg Module. But, I do use several sounds and layered patches from SampleTank in many songs my band performs. Setting up layers and splits in SampleTank is intuitive and straight forward. In Korg Module that is not the case, at all.
@edgaba Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment, I agree with you. I don’t use the piano from Korg module as it lacks. You should try an app called Pure Piano I find that is my favorite piano for iPad. I do use some of the other sounds from module like Pads etc. Anyway, happy playing!
@TheIvoryman Жыл бұрын
@@edgaba I do have Pure Piano. And, I do like it. I have been playing live gigs with my iPad and two keyboard controllers for about 5 years. When playing out with my band I typically have 8-9 Apps/Modules open and running in the background simultaneously. I need to be able to access those modules instantly. So, I do not want to have to close and open apps between every song. It’s too time consuming. In order to have that many Apps all open I have had to choose the apps I use, very carefully. I have a 2017 256gb iPad Pro. I run all of the apps at 256 samples (@5ms latency). That is perfectly acceptable to me. I have no hiccups or conflicts of any kind. But, believe me, I am maxing out the capabilities of my iPad. Pure piano is a bit CPU intensive. So, I can’t use it in my live gig setup. I added the ‘Keys Sound Pack’ IAP in iSymphonic. There are two piano sounds in that add on that are actually my favorite pianos. And, they work just fine. The newest iPad Pros with Apple’s M2 chip are lightning fast. So, their limitations must be very few.
@edgaba Жыл бұрын
@@TheIvoryman are you running your setup usin AUM?
@TheIvoryman Жыл бұрын
@@edgaba For live performance, in order to insure that I can run all 8 Apps simultaneously, I do not use AUM or any other host application. All Apps run stand alone. So, I use whatever effects and features each individual App has. It would be nice to use AUM, to add specific effects to any instrument that I choose. But, that would take up valuable resources. I am quite satisfied with the capabilities of my system. I can do more with it than keyboard players using hardware based keyboards. If I ever upgrade to the newest iPad Pro, any limitations I now have will no longer be an issue.

Question, how do you disable the sustain pedal for a particular instrument like a left hand the bass when you have all the instruments going on one midi channel?
@eddiegarridobyrequest39902 жыл бұрын
I do t believe you can disable it however, you might be able to disable it from the midi controller. The way I used it was I had my bass sound on a separate midi controller (Arturia Mini Keylab) set to the midi channel of the bass and an iRig keys was playing all the other layers. It was a using two keyboard controllers. You can connect 2 keyboards using a hub like the Pluggable Hub. I have 2 of those hubs if you need one message me back. The ability to control the sustain midi within the app has been requested to ik multimedia and its in the wish list of updates. I hope this helps.
