Arrgh! I've owned many synths over the years, especially Korg and early Roland units, and had 2 flawless Poly 800 II's but I sold them both around a decade ago. Just discovered your channel and now I'll have to look for another 800 II just because I want to install your great patches! Still have a Korg M1 unit and a Korg 01W/FD board which I use (via MIDI) to layer over a Nord Electro 3 Seventy Three keyboard (IMHO Nord has some of the best Hammond B3 and Leslie emulations around.) Anyway, glad I discovered your great channel. Thanks!

I really prefer the Poly 800 II - the envelopes are snappier, but not actually faster than the original. This is because the envelope curves on the model II are logarithmic, whereas they are linear on the original. The difference is astounding. The programmable DDL on the model II has an analog feedback path (unlike newer DSP-based delays) so it sounds warm and a little dirty. Also the II looks much nicer, with its mostly black housing and buttons. Very nice sounding demo, I love your patches.

Great demo! I love this synth, especially the bass tones. And the way it sounds when you assign at little LFO modulation to the pitch - sweet!

Beautifull. It takes a while for me not to search for another one on ebay after hearing your demo. It's not about the synth, it's all about your love and passion embeded in every sound you have created and every note you play. I won't get that from synth. I have to search in myself:) Thanks for greta videos and keep it up!
@georgegeorgio17512 жыл бұрын
This is partly true as i also program sounds on many synths, you do need a wild imagination , lots of time initially to understand the architecture of a particular synth. But the synth must be able to create good sounds the processing power needs to be there ,but then the problem is most keyboard players love to just concentrate on chords and scales etc they don’t understand the power in combining playing style with patch making as a player you learn so many different styles depending on the patch type.

Great demo! (same as all your other demos) From what I've read, the Mk2 is just a Poly 800 w/digital delay. (?) But IMO the Mk2 sounds slightly fatter, creamier, smoother etc, then the Poly 800. I have a Poly 800, but I'm seriously considering getting a Mk2. What I really want & have wanted since the mid/late 80's, is a DW8000, but they're a bit harder to find. Each time 1 comes up on Ebay, I don't have the $ & then when I DO, there are none to be found. Eventually I'll have a Mk2 & DW8000.

These are incredibly cheap now, so they're a nice choice for someone looking for a decent analog synth. Biggest limitations are the single filter for all voices, the lack of real-time knobs and the lack of velocity or aftertouch on the keyboard. Also, it sounds very thin in 8-voice mode, so most decent patches only give you 4-voice polyphony. Even so, a nice-sounding keyboard if you don't want to use a softsynth.

@Najvrtson10 жыл бұрын
I have DW-8000 (and used to have Poly 800). DW-8000 has digital oscillators instead of digitally controlled, thus it is hybrid synthesizer, not truly analog (imo without influence on soud quality). But most important is, that DW-8000 has one filter per voice, while Poly 800 is paraphonic and has only one filter over all eight oscillators. Next pleasant features of DW are five octave keyboard with velocity and aftertouch and arpeggiator. I prefer DW-8000 :o).

Which are the differences between this one and the Poly-800? I think that the 800II has effect delay, instead the chorus effect of the first version, and that it was updated with SysEx interface, isn´t it? Apart from that, Do they have the same wave forms and parameters? Can they produce the same sounds? Which do you prefer?
@AnalogAudio19 жыл бұрын
+KurtFuller yes, the programmable delay instead the simple chorus, sysex was implemented, more sequencer memory. But also faster envelopes. The basic sound is a bit different, but very similar. I prefer the MK2, but I have both, also the EX-800..
@randytrader30262 жыл бұрын
The 800 can also run on batteries, the bad thing is, if you leave it setting up somewhere without the batteries in it , it will lose the memory.. I guess the small internal battery isn't strong enough without having the D size batteries in it.. I was told this when they first came out in the 80s by the keyboard guy at "Reliable Music" in Charlotte N.C.. so I didn't buy one..
@AnalogAudio12 жыл бұрын
You're talking about early Poly-800's. Later Poly-800 and Poly-800 II do not have these problems, they have a reliable CR2032 battery built in, to preserve memory.
