Awesome demo. Someone lemme borrow this synth back in 88. I had no idea what this thing could do back then. Thanks for sharing!!

The issue I have is that the chorus is not really optional on Roland and there is a lot of hiss, totally unlike the Korgs. Roland has a slightly smoother sound but the DW8000 and even 6000 have a much wider sonic range. I'd rather have the 800 than a juno 6 as it has midi and the sound is cleaner and just as good once reverb is on.

@JoseAngelMorente5 жыл бұрын

No you don't. The tape was used to store and recall patches when SYSEX transmitting was not so popular. The Poly-800 has a decent MIDI implementation so it can be used as a MIDI controller (or be controlled externally trough MIDI). However, it lacks velocity so if you need a sensible keyboard, the Poly-800 is not the synth you are looking for.
@KurtFuller9 жыл бұрын
Gracias
@JoseAngelMorente9 жыл бұрын
@KurtFuller9 жыл бұрын
+José Ángel Morente Pero, ¿no suenan exactamente igual, verdad?
@JoseAngelMorente9 жыл бұрын
@HENDRIXPROD11 жыл бұрын
please tell me is there any piano presets? Want to purchase synth for my little brother(he's 4). And i'm confused: buy something digital-new with a lot of presets(like yahama or so) or buy this synth with 80s sound. I just love the sound of it!
@JoseAngelMorente11 жыл бұрын
No acoustic presets here... no pianos, trumpets, guitars or drums. It is an analog synth so you will get those 80s synthetic sounds only. I love this baby (I love synth pop and sounds) but a Casio/Yamaha/Roland would be a better choice for your brother.
@HENDRIXPROD11 жыл бұрын
José Ángel Morente thanks for the response. In my mind I know that yamaha is so much better for my brother, but I can't forget that feel of 80s sound. Then I'll purchase something like that for me, know only thing I got is vst synth, some of them can produce not bad 80s sound at all.

is there a way to midi this synth to use knobs or sliders for filters and envelopes ? or could it use like a roland PG 200 or something like that?
@JoseAngelMorente8 жыл бұрын
It is possible to modify the Poly-800 to use two knobs for filter (cutoff and resonance) but ENV can't be modified that way because it's digital and the synth hasn't got any sysex capabilities (except for memory dump). Take a look here: synthmod.net/korg/moog_slayer/

My has an old one of these. I am a little confused about the whole tape casette thing and its compatibility with MIDI. For example, could I just use this as a MIDI controller? Do I need the tape? Thanks budz

Just wondering, does it produce any 8bit kind of sound like square/triangle/saw wave?
@JoseAngelMorente11 жыл бұрын
Square and Saw only, but triangle can be easily simulated by switching on/off harmonics. However, keep in mind it's an analog synthesizer, not digital like those 8bit chips (SID, PSG, etc.) so sound is more powerful and thick
@michaelbauers880010 жыл бұрын
I don't think you call those 8 bit sounds. It's analog using a DCO, not digital ( unless you are one of those pendantic people trying to argue DCOs are digital, but that's a huge stretch and a confusing way to think of it.) Not sure what waveforms it's DCOs generate, certainly a square wave, ramp and/or triangle wave are pretty common on analog synths. It only has one DCO per active voice, but you can layer them.
@JoseAngelMorente10 жыл бұрын
The Poly800 DCOs can create complex waveforms based on the sum of squared or ramp waveforms. You can stack up to 4 waves per oscillator (each of them is 1 octave distance from the other, 4', 8', 16', etc. so it is a sort of additive synthesis similar to the one used by organs). The rest of the architecture is subtractive and it has 3 different EGs (dco1, dco2 and filter). No EG dedicated for pitch, though :(

Hey sorry its me again! i want to ask you, JU 06? or microkorg xl?
@msxwiki8 жыл бұрын
+Facundo Lisola Both are different machines. The Microkorg is better if you want to get those tasty vocoder sounds. BTW, I'm not a fan of virtual analog synthesizers. I prefer real analog or hybrid synths instead. However, I own a Korg R3 and I use it live all the time. It's similar to the Microkorg, but has double polyphony and real sized keys. Price is very good too.

@JoseAngelMorente8 жыл бұрын
Korg Dw8000 of course.
@cantiargentina8 жыл бұрын
But there is a lot of difference? because korg poly800 y half of the money
@JoseAngelMorente8 жыл бұрын
+Facundo Lisola both they have lots of things in common. However, the DW 8000 is twice the polyphony of Poly, it has velocity and aftertouch, integrated chorus, flanger and delay, and one filter per voice (8 filters). The Poly uses a single filter shared for all oscillators. Other differences are the DW's arpeggiator (the Poly has a very simple step sequencer instead) and the envelopes (the Poly has one more EG dedicated for the osc2). The DW's oscillators are wavetable based, the Poly's ones are analog DCOs (unable to generate a pure sawtooth, by the way). EGs are faster on the DW too. You can easily recreate Minimoog basses alike sounds, but on the Poly you can't. The envs on the Poly are digitally controlled and you can clearly hear the steps because the lack of good resolution. Envs on the DW sound smoother. BTW where are you from? Your name looks very Argentinian but you have a photo of the Majestic hotel in Barna. It's a bit confusing 😀😉😄
