INGREDIENTS: (makes about 12)
8 small potatoes
1 onion
1 tbsp olive oil or butter
3/4 lb / 350 g ground meat
salt and pepper to taste
1-2 eggs, beaten
1-2 cups panko bread crumbs
1/2 cup flour
DIRECTIONS:
Peel potatoes making sure to cut out the eyes. Cut into bite-sized pieces. Put them into water and set aside. Finely chop the onion. Rinse the potatoes and put into a large pot. Cover with water and boil until tender. Pour water out continue to heat over low heat to evaporate any excess moisture.
Put a tablespoon of oil or olive oil in a frying pan. Saute the onions until translucent. Add in the ground meat along with pepper and salt. Saute until meat is no longer pink. Dump the meat mixture into the bowl of potatoes. Mix well, mashing some of the potatoes. Check to taste and if needed, season with more salt and pepper.
Shape the mixture into patties. Cover the croquette patty with flour followed by a dip in the egg wash. Then coat well with the panko bread crumbs. Repeat until they are all done. Cover and chill the patties in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Deep fry in hot oil until crispy and golden brown. Serve with tonkatsu sauce.

I remember the first time I tried my first croquet...it was in Asakusa near the temple. I was wondering why their was a long line at one of the stands. I ended up standing in line to see what it was. When I got to the counter I realized it was a croquet stand, so I bought one. It was incredible. Thank you and your mom for this recipe...I will try it.

This was a very wonderful video! Thank you, Okaasan, for showing us how to make delicious korokke! I enjoy all of the videos that you make, but these ones with Shinichi's mom are extra-special. She is so kind to show us how to make these recipes, especially when cooking isn't her favorite thing. Arigatou gozaimasu! I wish I could magically come there, and somehow do something kind in return - maybe cook some of my family's recipes for all of you, too. But alas, it isn't possible. As for the next recipe, of course, I wish I could see her cook nishime! But I also like chirashi zushi, so that would be great as well. Last but not least, Justin was so cute, enjoying his cabbage! :-) Thanks again for the video. It brightened my week so much.

Whoa: was just gonna comment on how cute and awesom you mom is: "Your sister thinks it'll make her fat.. and She says this and that but in the end she eats them.." -That's a true, "power mom's cooking" moment. And for some reason I got deja vu on the scene after of them dumping out the cooked meat, with the colorful pink background apron and everything. For some reason all my de javu dream instances are all random scens from something I watch later or background images!

Thank you for this recipe! I made these for my sister's family last night. I was skeptical that the kids would eat the raw cabbage so I sauteed some with the onions so they'd eat them without knowing. Haha. Everyone loved the korokke's and the kids even loved the raw cabbage! They were very easy to make and most of the time it took was waiting for the potatoes to boil and waiting for them to cool I'm the fridge. Love your mom and all her videos!!

I loved this. I had a Japanese "grandma" and this is one of many things she'd make. Wasn't my real grandma. My paternal grandmother passed away before I was born. My maternal grandmother didn't really like me all too much. So, when it to treats from grandma, it was Japanese food. I grew an affinity for Saba (my favorite fish). I get shocking looks when I order it, because Americans consider it the bait. Croquettes were another wonderful treat. Inari too. So many things. Love this channel.
