Korone Teaches Japanese: "Yes, My Lord/Doggo/Fish" (Inugami Korone/Hololive) [ENG SUB]

Korone teaches the overseas fans about gyoi (御意) and ends up getting a chat full of fish.
One translation note: innu (イッヌ ) is Japanese slang for dog (inu) that developed differently but is pretty much the same as doggo.
One dumb clip creator note: 1:29-1:34 was not supposed to be in the video, which is why it's not translated! Oh well.

She seems to have a lot of fun involving her overseas viewers. It's also pretty common to see the Hololive members wanting to learn more English so they can interact with their viewers more, but Korone takes it a step further by not only learning ways to say things in English (Albeit not amazingly due to using Google Translate, but it's a good start!), but teaching her viewers phrases and such of Japanese, so they can piece together context a little easier. All in all, Korone is a very good doggo.

6:05 If you're not familiar with Google Translate you might not have noticed that Korone pulled a real pro move here. The Japanese word for stream is "haishin" but Google will always translate it as "delivery." Korone has obviously had that problem before and instead types "sutorimingu" in katakana, giving her the correct translation. Much smart.
@nocturnallight2640
@nocturnallight2640 4 жыл бұрын
I did notice that most people use the word 配信 for stream, but I didn't know that she was purposely using ストリーミング to avoid the inaccurate translation. Good enough at English to prevent the mistake from taking place, but not good enough to just construct the sentence by herself without using google translate. Lol

Her English is improving at an incredibly fast rate. People compliment her on her effort to connect with overseas fans a lot and it's true, but there's definitely a lot for her to gain, aside from a huge market of foreign viewers... sne really is interested in the West so she definitely has fun doing this. It's nice :) Thanks for translating this. I actually managed to watch part of this clip myself without subs but with my limited Japanese it's far better for enjoyment with the subs! I always look forwards to yours in particular, you do a really good job explaining things, making clear translations and leaving the video much unedited as well. Your clips are longer than many others, too! And you tend to translate her interaction with overseas viewers, my favourite part XD

@kys Man, that sleep crap is annoying. Hey, if I can do software engineering 'death marches' to meet deadlines then they can do marathon streams. It's not much different.

@Koholos I think Korone's English has improved over the last couple months, and I know I've been inspired to carve out some time in my busy days for more Japanese study, so it's a fun 2 way street I suppose.

Having taken some Japanese courses, this is especially hilarious because I totally understand why a native Japanese speaker would say "Fish" instead of "wish" and the coincidence is amazing. There are hiragana/katakana for "Wa" and "Wo": わ, を (I don't have a virtual keyboard for katakana so these are just the hiragana versions) but not for the other vowel sounds "We" "Wi" and "Wu". (Note, there *are* older versions of these missing characters that you can find online, but from what I understand these have been phased out in more modern language due to redundancy.) So, when trying to write English words in Katakana, you often have to infer other ways to pronounce the "W." Usually, these are replaced by the characters from the H_ row. Across the entire H_ row. A beginner would probably think to pronounce "Wish" with like "Hishi" which would be pronounced "Heesh," but that doesn't convey the pronunciation very well. Instead, the "W" and "I" are pronounced separately. Typically, when this is necessary, you use the "_u" character as it's the most silent of the vowel sounds. The problem here is that there actually is no "hu" character, either. The "_u" in the "H_" row is actually pronounced "Fu". This is also the reason you'll hear Japanese speakers struggle with words like "Fall" or "Fell," because there's no "Fa" or "Fe" character, only "Ha" or "He", or other words like "Hoop" which is pronounced with a "Hu" in english. All three of these words might initially be pronounced as "Hall," "Hell," or "Fuupu." It just doesn't come naturally to a Japanese speaker to mix and match consonants and vowels as freely as English does. You'll never see a consonant followed immediately by a second consonant in Japanese because of how their language is structured. So, in the end, you would pronounce "Wish" as ふいし。(Again, wrongly spelled in hiragana instead of katakana here). When spoken, this sounds like "Fuwish". After realizing this mistake, she corrects the pronunciation to ういし or "Uish" which seems to be the best way to convey the pronunciation in the Japanese language without confusing it with "Fish".

I think "Yes mom" was supposed to be "Yes ma'am". Korone's teacher might've had British/UK/Australian pronunciations, rather than 'merican. XD I had a Chinese teacher who told us about his experiences learning British English in high school because American English teachers were basically on the college level at the time. He always laughed about the British pronunciation of "loop roundabout", AKA when one interstate makes a loop to merge onto another. The phenomenon of British Asians is very real.
