If they're going for a high russian arm you can get the armpit grip

My teacher taught me that grip as a mean to prevent a physically strong opponent to overbear your lapel (right sided grip). Very effective and comfortable. It provides a wide range of motions and combinations.

Definitely my favorite judoka as well. I noticed you his repertoire changed, actually reduced after he injured his pectoral muscle. That was the tail end of his career. He shortened his career by moving to +100kg IMHO.
