Kosmic, Niftski, Miniland, Maru's TAS - COMBINED

I've been embarking on a journey to combine multiple speedruns of the original 1985 NES Super Mario Bros. at once into a real RACE. This video combines the top 3 world records - at the time the video was made - along with the Human Theory TAS from Maru. I've had to use a lot of machine learning, image processing, and development to get to this point. Other videos on my channel give some details on how it was made.
My end goal is to create a platform for LIVE Super Mario Bros. speedrunning races where you don't have to look at 4 screens at the same time.
Runs in this episode:
Kosmic's 4:55.646 [2020-01-17] Former World Record:
• (Gameplay Only) SMB1 4...
Niftski's 4:55.430 [2020-11-13] Former World Record:
• 4:55.430 Desktop Only
Miniland's 4:55.314 [2021-01-12] Former World Record:
• [Former World Record] ...
Maru's 4:54.265 (RTA Rules TAS) [2019-04-29] Current RTA rules best TAS:
• [TAS] Super Mario Bros...
We use the Human theory TAS because it doesn't cheat by pressing left and right at the same time something impossible on the original NES.
TAS stands for tool assisted speedrun
Yes I know that Miniland beat the world record just a few days after this video came out :-)

It's interesting, you can see how tight Kosmic's 8-4 was since he closed some distance between the other 2. You can also see how Miniland's fast accel gave that tiny lead of Niftski. Only complaint is that Badabun's amazing run wasn't up here for comparison.

This is just fantastic work, well done so far! Really gives a good view of the actual time differences. Do you think there's a good way to differentiate which enemies belong to which mario? I think it'd work great as is, but could get a little busy if you had several players racing.
@flibidydibidy
@flibidydibidy 3 жыл бұрын
I've considered this a bit, opacity is kind of nice - but I have another idea which involves outlining the sprites with the players main color. I'd like to give it a try when I'm looking at eight runners at a time which is my current target. If it gets really busy, well - that's kind of part of the fun. But you're right I need to strike a balance!
