Once you learn how to execute hip vibration generated punch, it does not have to be forward. I demonstrate in this video that it can be done to the side.
The direction can also be downward and upward as the technique is the same in principle.
Believe it or not, you can learn this technique from Tekki if you can use the spine whip. The technique is Kagi zuki 鉤突き or hood punch.
Yes, you learn how to execute it with a large motion from the hip. If you can use the spine whip, you can execute zero inch punch while touching the fist (of the bent arm) on the target.
FYI, this way of generation is much more sophisticated and challenging as the motion of the whip is not linear (side or forward). It will be more like twisting or spiraling.
