As someone who pays close attention to the gaming industry, Embracer has been one of the most confusing entities in a while. Rapid inorganic acquisitions with underwhelming releases in both quality and sales. Can’t say I’m overly surprised that they are planning on shutting down some studios and looking to pivot into a more sustainable way in doing business. As for the Kotor remake I’m still hopeful, Saber/Aspyr wouldn’t have been my first choice in studio to handle it but I’m excited nonetheless.

Good, they sucked anyways. They are like ILCA for Pokémon - a company dedicated to remasters and cinematics who are suddenly thrusted by the mother company into making a remake, which is just too ambitious.

'We're not making the money we'd like, so naturally we're going to cancel the remake of an internationally loved and known classic that happens to take place in the Star Wars universe; because you know that's totally how you secure your financial stability!' Do people even think for two seconds before they start to type away? KoTOR is going to be the biggest project they'll ever make, with the biggest profit margins to boot, and it's not even close. They'd have to have positively ZERO business acumen to even consider it.

This is potentially very good news. Now that their financial future is on the line, Embracer will become more risk-averse, so by consequence they will be more interested in making it more faithful to the original. From what I read, Aspyr was planning to make a "retelling" of the original, and to be frank, they are no Bioware. Now that they are gone, no one is interested in making their own mark and simply making this to survive, Saber will probably just do the same thing as the RE4 or FF7 Remake (to some degree) and improve on small things while preserving the original story and gameplay. This is obviously conjecture as well, but it seems there's finally some positive news about the project.

@@RageBoxMan In my opinion both remakes are amazing is what I meant to say. They have their small nitpicks and controversies. But you can't deny they are complete games in their own rights. So in terms of remakes I think a rocky development cycle isn't even the worst. Which is kind of weird because most games that face this never come out that good. There are still exceptions ofcourse. But in terms of remakes it really doesn't seem to matter much. In fact maybe it's even a good thing? But yeah lets hope this counts for KOTOR aswell.

9:00 that's a shame. Saber Interactive doesn't deserve to work on a remake for a masterpiece like the KOTOR remake. The game development world would be more respectable if they got shelved.

What do you mean by that Saber is more than qualified for the job they made incredible remasters and remakes they have experience Just look at Crysis trilogy remastered or Halo the Master chief collection

@DarthRevan40 those examples you gave are the reason they are least qualified. They a horrid job on the Halo CE Anniversary edition. Look up Noodle's how not to do a remaster. The soundtrack is butchered, the art direction is disrespected heavily by being overly detailed and the lighting is so studio lit that there's no need for a flashlight. The game lazily uses a ton of Reach assets. H2A was a slight improvement over that garbage remaster. The cutscenes had inferior cinematography, sound effects and once again the soundtrack was lacking in comparison to the original and it still used too many Reach assets. The original Crysis has effects that are missing from the remaster. The original version is better than the remaster. There's plenty of things I didn't get to. KOTOR is not in good hands.

This analysis is logically sound. Getting rid of KOTOR would be suicide given the budget that has been sunk into it. The company would lose so much regarding their reputation that investors would most likely flee

The craziest part of this all is aperion was a team of fans who did better more cohesive work than these multi hundred thousand/million studios. Like what’s up with that? Why is this game getting dragged through the mud? It’s not hard to remaster/remake something and fans prove it time and time again

Because the people funding the production of the remake have no idea what made the game amazing originally. It's already an AMAZING game. A simple graphics overhaul remaster, with some perhaps added side content, quality of life improvements, new gear, feats, powers, ways to use skills. Take kotor, make it pretty and streamline it, add some cool shit and bam. Awesome remaster. But here we are, the people paying for it to be made demanding it be a "cinematic experience" and running it into the ground while simultaneously telling fans who have true love and passion for the game that they'll get sued to oblivion if they try to make it. Politics and beurocracy, you see it almost every job anywhere. People signing the checks call the shots, no matter how little sense it makes.

A KOTOR trilogy for next generation consoles is something I would want. I've waited to hear a release date for KOTOR 3. It was canceled. ( That was ten years ago). It seems like micromanagement and confusion leading the pack. We will probably enjoy this KOTOR remake in 2099.

i want too add a thing, sony is heavily involved in the kotor remake, even if embracer want too delay it or abandone it, sony wouldn`t allow it because i`am really shure that sony put some money into it allready, and the past has shown that sony has an high influence on it, because it was delayed and starting from a new because sony didn`t like how the early beta was like. and if we all know something than that sony didn`t want a bad remake done with an ip that is so big. they really are behind it too get it right. as seen with the demon`s souls remake. so i have no reason too believe that the kotor remake is in any trouble. it will be done right and releases when the time has come. and for embracer this game is an big thing that will show what way the company will go in the future. if it performs well when it comes out the company has and strong foot set in the gaming market, when it will crash into the ground the company will have some big trouble ahead. thats how big the game is for sony and embracer, sony will continue too work with embracer if the game will be good, but it is bad than sony will rethink the work with embracer. so i think the game will come out, it will be done right not rushed before it releases, because of all i mentioned.

I truly believe that the fan reaction to the KotOR remake will determine the future of Embracer. If the game flops the studio will be done but if it succeeds we can expect to see the company to move up in the industry.

Sometimes, I think we should take the sceleton from some other open source new game, put the meat and skin of the old kotor and slowly transform this frankenstein into something playable as fans. Make new models, surroundings, design our own quests as the community of pasionate people. This is a freaking drama and it saddens. Remember warcraft remake/reforged? It was announced when there were 3 separate fan projects! 1 of them was ready to be released and another one was very close to it. Fans were crying and begging for wc3 remake. No one cared for like 15 years. It's unbearable. I swear. If KOTOR remake would be cancelled we need to come up with something. I'll freaking do 3d models for free if that helps. Pain.

I don't want a remake. KOTOR 1 is fine, it's a great experience. Updated graphics sure, but only a MASSIVE amount of new content will make me want to play this game yet again. @@megaTherionXX The story is timeless, Shakespearean. Revan is Caesar and the Mandalorian Wars were his Rubicon. Malak is Brutus and the game has you go on a traditional Ocarina of Time-style quest with the proper twists, turns and epic surprises. KOTOR is a recipe for greatness but that's what it always was and we already have it. SWTOR pretty much is KOTOR 3 but that doesn't mean we still can't have KOTOR 3. I want more space combat, more gameplay improvements, not just some turret, card and swoop racing minigames. Pazaak was more fun in KOTOR 2 anyway.

My friend first off great video but I don't want to discourage you but you've been riding this horse for sometime since they announced they were going to do a remake on KOTOR. There has been delays, setbacks and changing of the video game company making the KOTOR remake and so far nothing official of a release date for the game like you would have preferred back in April for it's 20 anniversary. I understand how much KOTOR means to you but I also think you're stressing yourself out constantly listening to all these rumors and speculations on the status of the KOTOR remake. We already have a release date and trailer for the upcoming game Star Wars Outlaws but nothing again about KOTOR. My friend and I hope you don't mind maybe it's time you let this go because your just going to be glued constantly to all the latest news from Embracer and listening to again needless rumors, speculations and innuendo about the KOTOR remake...until you see an official trailer and release date then you'll actually know when it's coming out
