Thank you for this reaction. I’d love to see them live too! ❤Those who have, will always tell you that to hear Forestella live at their concerts surpasses any recording. This was performed May 1st 2021 in the Immortal Songs competition. The self-trained tenor soprano you mentioned , Kang HyungHo is also known under his rock-singer identity, PITTA, a solo activity he does outside Forestella. He was a rock-singer and frontman with the band, PITTA, while at University studying for his chemical engineering degree and for a few years after. Eventually that band faded and he joined a workband at the petrochemical company he was working at as a research chemist for 4 years. Kang (family name) and the workband entered and won a statewide employee amateur band competition in Busan. In 2017, in a last try at a music career he’d always wanted, he auditioned for the tv competition PHANTOM SINGER 2 which was looking to form a crossover quartet. That’s the competition where Forestella was born and then ultimately went on to win that season. The other vital members of Forestella are Bae Doohoon, Cho MinGyu and Ko Woorim. More info on these 3 another day except to add that Woorim is currently serving his mandatory military service til May 2025. Forestella is a temporary trio and has last month on 6th January 2024 performed another Queen song THE SHOW MUST GO ON and a rearranged version of HIJO DE LA LUNA for the 3 voices. Both are spectacular viewing. Their quartet version of HDLL is also a great showcase for their voices.

Forestella is definitely peak quartet! Knew you would love this performance from them. And to think the counter tenor (Kang Hyung Ho - aka PITTA) had no formal training before joining Forestella. I heard (not sure how true) that he even didn't read sheet music. And look at him now! My fav is the bass (Ko Woorim) though - his voice is so velvety & rich - prob my all time fav bass voice. And he is the youngest in the group. I love their original songs but their covers are just as amazing. Another excellent reaction! Songs where Pitta (Kang Hyung Ho, the counter tenor) shines pure are Nella Fantasia, Parla Piu Piano, Moonlight, Hijo De La Luna and especially Inner Universe . But he is also outstanding in Deep Dreams, Time In A Bottle and their recent The Show Must Go On where Forestella is now a temporary trio until the brilliant bass, Ko Woo Ri, returns from mandatory military service in late May 2025.

I believe it’s SWEET Dreams, originally by Eurythmics, for those who might not be familiar with that song… And yes their youngest, Woorim has successfully completed the 5-week basic training and is currently serving in the Military Band til his return. It’s 98 days into an 18 month service already.. I think Forestella group prefer HyungHo to be referred to as his birth name when doing Forestella activity. He has 2 separate careers and is signed under 2 different agencies. He never ever introduces himself on a Forestella stage as PITTA. He always greets the audience as Kang HyungHo. PITTA actually consists of 2 members … Kang Hyungho and Lee EunWoo(YoonWoo). All credits for Hyungho as vocal arranger, vocal director and producer and composer (when applicable) on their Forestella albums , videos, and minis etc are in the name of Kang HyungHo. It’s less confusing for very new Forestella fans and reactors too.

Thank you for your wonderful reaction to Forestella again! This is from old English folk song. Simon & Garfunkel version is the most famous as far I know. There are some stories about this song Scarborough Fair..what I've read was this is a song from a ghost (soul) of a dead soldier. He asked the herbs growing on his dead body to deliver his message to his beloved girl in Scarborough Fair where was a big herb market. He asked the herbs to tell her impossible task "Tell her to make me a cambric shirt without no seams nor needle work" to make her give up waiting for his coming back as he's already unable as he's dead. Forestella sang like as messengers of this sad and beautiful story. Also there are symbols those herbs significated: parsley for comfort or to remove bitterness, sage for strength, thyme for courage, and rosemary for love. There's some speculation that these four herbs were used in a tonic of some sort to remove curses. What I first heard was to remove memories..so I thought he (the dead soldier) wanted to remove the memory about him from his girl to make her not mourning for him anymore. BTW I found those herbs cannot be grown in the same areas in fact while on my researching English references.. so it could be just for remembering the recipe for turkey seasoning ingredients, too.

Good suggestion! Yes, Kang Hyungho sang both the male and female lead in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA on Lotto Singer in 2020 ,an MBN singing competition. He was supported by the other 3 members with their recorded vocals supporting him in the backing tracks used for some of his other performances. Counter tenor doesn’t seem like an adequate classification , given the actual vocal range he has .😅 I believe he referred to himself as a tenor soprano or teprano😊

You are so right! These 4 guys are an explosive mixture and actually often sound like a choir of 40. FORESTELLA is a very versatile group with brilliant skills. They say, they don't want to limit themselves musically, but rather experiment and get the best possible results from a wide variety of songs. Regardless of genre and mainstream! You can't help but appreciate everything they bring to the table. And they have all the tools for this: the skills, ranges and flexibility of the voices and incredible musical sensitivity, creativity and passion. You haven't really gotten to know much of their artistry yet. An absolute MUST e.g. is their version of “INNER-UNIVERSE”. (Highly praised by the original composer. He even came to a concert). Another MASTERPEACE from this unusual group with very extraordinary and inimitable sounds. You shouldn't miss this.

Forestella members said she was like a young girl, when they got to meet her backstage at one of their concerts where they had performed Inner Universe. I believe she was 60 at the time.Her name is Yoko Kanno and caused a stir also when she even left a comment on one of their videos on KZbin .😅

​Regarding your question about Kang Hyung Ho aka PITTA FORESTELLA's "Countertenor". Yes, he EFFORTLESSLY sings entire songs in those highest tones, without exception. He is not a classically trained singer but, in addition to his "normal (if necessary very rough) rock voice" (3 1/2 octaves), he has an extremely well-trained, strikingly beautiful head voice. And he uses these in very different ways depending on his needs (from angelic and crystal clear to metallically sharp). From "Nella Fantasia" (in the same key and sounding just as feminine as Sarah Brightmann) to "Forsaken" (Within Temptation - currently from the latest concert and expressly praised by composer Robert Westerholt) to "Wishmaster" (Nightwish) or countless covers of "Muse” or “Queen”, which he likes very much. By the way, he is also a first-class singer/songwriter. The COMPOSITION OF "SNOW-GLOBE" as well as the vocalization of Snow-Globe and "Utopia" are BY HIM , among many other originals.

Y'all, I heard them live! The whole concert consisted of me sitting there with my mouth opened in awe and goosebumps from my head to my toes. They sounded like a full chorus! The first time I heard Scarborough Fair was prob in the early 80s as a child in Singapore. There was an old English show (I can't remember the title now) that featured this song and I was mesmerised by the soft melody. Simon and Garfunkel sang this song I believe. Trust me, the song may have parsley, rosemary (herbs) in it but the story behind is deeper than that.

Just letting you guys know that Forestella have no connection to kpop aside from being Korean, since that part of your title is just plain wrong. Forestella are 2 classically trained opera singers, one musical actor and one rock singer (with no formal music education) that came together through a show and now work as a quartet, they don't dance nor were ever part of a kpop agency or trainee program before meeting during the show that formed them. Although they're currently signed under BEAT Interactive that also houses a kpop group they're not in the kpop industry so they don't attend music shows or do idol type variety content. They are a vocal crossover group.
