I love my Razer Kraken headset, unfortunatly I need to replace my headset with something else because my skin and hair oil complete destroyed the synth leather on the ear cups. Other than the flaky leather, everything works perfectly.

That's going to depend more on how you connect the headphones. The TE comes with the USB THX sound card and gives you the ability to change EQ settings. Also if you intend to use the built in mic id go TE. However if you intend to connect 3.5mm and don't need to use the built in mic, I'd go V2X. The sound quality and isolation just dominates the TE out of the box.

Great question. I really love listening to music on my V2X, and I could 100% just use them for music. In a under $100 category I'd give a 7 to the V2X and a 8 to the V2 as you get the sound card, and can adjust EQ. However if you're looking for strictly music I'd take a look at the Audio-Technica ATH-M40X, or the DT990 pro if you can spare $150 that's what I use for my vinyl listening.

I love my Krakens, esp for fps and the type of deep bass music I listen to. However, the only complain I have is the peeling of the leather on the headband and earpads. I found replacement for both online though. In short, I wouldnt replace the headset for anything else.

Really nice review! Both headset have their pros and cons. As for the sound, I way better prefer the V2 (Haven't tried the V2 X but still might buy it even if I have the V2) over the Kraken. The Kraken always have been overpowering the bass while overshadowing the rest of the spectrum. I really like the THX Spatial Audio from the V2 USB sound card, but I also like the color scheme a tad better on the V2X (hence why I might own both).

Oh I feel you there completely. I went with the V2X mainly because I wanted that green cable, that and my wife uses the Kraken X so I figured I'll eventually make another video with the X's.

Might be my main headset just because I thought I would prefer the breathable mesh material rather than leather (I have a tendancy to leave a bit of sweat from my head (I'm bald on the top so... if I sweat, I know where it's going)). But in the end, I expect to prefer the leather. I might give a shot to the V2X with the sound card from the V2 and also on my Yamaha AG03 mixer. I wouldn't be surprised if I end up needing to return the V2 to Amazon because I prefer the V2X overall lol, even if I truly like the THX Spatial Audio with the V2 :/

Yeah my set came the next day from Amazon it's pretty awesome. I've also been using the THX on the Nari and Kraken TE sets I I have, I like it but it's not a deal breaker for me. That and I just got the Elgato wave microphone that I plug into the mic via 3.5mm for direct monitoring so I can't use the USB sound card. All in all for 60 dollars the V2X is going to be hard to beat in my opinion.

Yeah at that price they are fairly inexpensive and sound really great. I'm well equipped not to use the THX Spatial Audio as well but I really liked how I could pinpoint my enemies a lot better than what I used to. And music also sounds great with that headset that I don't feel the need to use my VModa Crossfades to listen to music

Im a razer fan too, but they snap at the top if your head is big and extend it too far and too often. I still just duct taped it together and kept using them, amazing. Looking for a new set now that my puppy chewed the cable off, thanks for the great review

I’d go with the blackshark V2 for this one. The drivers are good for all types of music. Krakens are very bass heavy unless that’s what you want. I also find the blacksharks are better for FPS since it doesn’t overwhelm the bass frequency with explosions like the krakens do.

Got a renewed BSX but audio was cracking, maybe that's why they returned it. While getting a new unit I saw the Kraken and price is low, $30, so, I will give a try. Some reviews say audio on Kraken captures ambient noise, while BSX does not. Worried about that. Also drivers on Krakens are 40mm, no? Edit! Hmm, sorry. Kraken X. That's why the price is so low. 40 mm, non retractable mic. Price for Kraken still on $60.

That’s a pretty good deal for the V2X. All in all I found the V2s to have an overall better sound, and now that Razer let’s you buy the THX software ($20 USD) to adjust EQ without a USB dongle is pretty sweet.

Thanks for the good review, I have question for you; I am stuck with these two models. I am playing competitive games with my friends but playing story games mostly. I love the bass into game also dialouges, in game soundtracks and environment sound importnant for me. For example playing witcher, bioshock, red dead redemption, assasins creed also racing games If i choose the kraken, are the bass sound killed the other details? (like dialouge and environment sound) which one is the right thing for me?

So I've been playing a lot of story mode games recently with my Blacksharks and I find the overall experience better than the Krakens. The bass won't rattle your head like a subwoofer, but it's very well done. In this case I'd actually go with the regular Blackshark V2's as it comes with a USB dongle for a THX EQ. That way you can dial the sound in just right. But if we are talking strictly out of the box, I'd go Blacksharks.

If you’re willing to pay $90 for the blacksharks I’d definitely go that route. However look at the Turtlebeach stealth 700 Gen2 , HyperX clouds, or the Roccat Elo series. At that point I’d go for who has the better price since all of these headsets are all really good.

For FPS games ether would be really good. The Krakens have more bass than the V2. As for mic quality I'd go Krakens. I was truly surprised on how good they sounded. The V2 is good, but they sound very compressed.

Hands down would go Blackshark V2 for any FPS. The balanced low ends really give you a sense of footsteps. In my testing the V2s have beat out the G pro, Krakens, and Turtle Beach. Also now Razer let’s you download the THX surround software for I believe $20 which is a game changer. Hope this helps.

bought this yesterday and i really love the blackshark v2x. i find it much better than my hp hg500 pro headset. been using this on my ps4 gaming session and i say the sound isolation is good on the earcup. can't hear a thing around me when im wearing this one cause maybe it aims to let you focus on gaming. wonderin if it is a good idea to wear the blackshark v2x for normal music listening while you are inside a mall or restaurant because the mic is not detachable unlike my hp

Out of interest, have you tried multi-driver headsets in the past? Examples, the Razer Tiamat 7.1 V2, Asus ROG Centurion or Speedlink Medusa NX 5.1 (amazing headset, amazing price, hasn't been made for years unfortunately). I used the Speedlink for years until it finally broke after ~10 years use. Sound was SUPERB in FPS games and notably Squad. I have tried several headsets since, including an expensive SteelSeries Acrtis Pro, which was no replacement for the Speedlink so it went on eBay! Now using the Razer Tiamat 7.1 V2 which in FPS is as good as it gets IMO, incredible detail and extremely easy to pinpoint enemy and enemy fire, vehicle and environmental sounds are great. I'd be keen to see a comparison of the Blackshark v2 vs the Tiamat 7.1 V2. Shame Razer didn't push the Tiamat harder and provide those who struggled to get the best out of them, more support and advice as on the right rig, unbeatable in the current market IMO. Good presentation and video btw, you deserve many more thousands of subscribers!

If you’re looking at just the Razer line I wild look at the V2X for PS4. However for my money these days the Steelseries Nova 1 gives me the best directional audio for game play.

both most comfortable headsets other than cloud2. Cloud2 isnt that good for big heads tho. In a review, I saw black shark v2 got a comfort of lvl 8 and kraken got lvl 8 and cloud 2 got a lvl 8. Everything else was below that in comfort lvl 7 and under. I agree with the black shark v2 and krakens comfort level!

I’ve used the Kraken TE extensively and I’d still give it to the Blacksharks. However I’d get the Blackshark V2 and not the X version so you can change the THX EQ settings just like the Kraken TE.

I would take the HS60 Pro over the V2X since the HS60 gives you EQ settings. However the standard V2 Blacksharks allows for EQ as well, and I find have more accurate sound quality over the HS60.

That's a tough question. In terms of build quality, and microphone audio the React is better. But the clamping force is a little too tight, and the drivers are tuned for more mid and high range with a flat bass signature. Great for gaming, but just okay for music. The Blackshark V2 has the sound card to tune the EQ via USB input, and even the V2X I feel is better for both gaming and music. Sound isolation is about the same for both headsets. I'd say if you're 95% going to be gaming and using the built in mic I'd go React, but if you're 50/50 gaming/music I'd go V2

I have been trying to find the better headset. Had bought the kraken x half a year ago but they plastic on top broke completely and thus cant keep up on your head. Which of these two will be more like kept in good condition and not break easily?

I also haven't had good build luck with the Kraken X. For my money I'd go with the Blacksharks. They are more robust than I originally thought.

@@xristos_kik In that cause I'd make sure to get the Blackshark V2 as it will come with a USB DAC. From there you can change up the EQ if you want more base. Overall I prefer the more natural sound of the Blacksharks over the Krakens.

Yes the ear cups on the black sharks are bigger, and the headset is also lighter than the Kraken X. The clamping force on the black sharks are also not a forceful as the Kraken X ether.

I would say the Kraken has a better microphone and the cooling pads but the sound quality is lacking compared to the black shark which really what matters in a headset

I do switch around my headsets for testing purposes, however I can 100% say the V2X's will go for 2 years, if not more. I've battered these things around, and they seem to be more sturdy than I initially thought.

Personally I don't play a lot of Fortnite anymore, but when I did I played on the Kraken TE's. The ability to mess around in the EQ's and change your sound profile to hear vertical footsteps was big for me, but very bass heavy. That said the Blackshark V2 does come with that THX dongle, so I'll assume that would probably be the better buy.

So I ran the Nari ultimate as my main for a couple months. The wireless and vibration features are really cool and work as advertised. But the sound quality isn't as good as the Krakens or Blacksharks. The Naris seem to be very muddy and lack any dynamics. That being said I enjoyed them for the wireless and vibration. For my money I'd save the 100 bucks and go for the V2. If wireless is a must I'd take a look at the new Logitech G pro wireless.
