@@WeekendWoodsmen I know the feeling , I missed a giant forked 6 pointer 3 years ago , the following year had him on camera and he got even bigger. Last year he vanished I thought he was dead. This year I had 3 encounters with him in 2 weeks and he eluded me every time. Well 3 weeks ago one of my hunting buddies saw him dead on the side of the road, from the night I missed him up until even today that deer haunts me. He was only a 6 pointer but he was about 22 inches wide and the G2s were about 12 inches and had mass, huge body probably over 200lbs on foot. Just an impressive deer to see. I don't know that I will ever have any closure with that one.
@WeekendWoodsmen2 жыл бұрын
@@garyhughes7737 it will get better with time. That buck we had countless pictures up multiple encounters and last year when he was 7, another hunter killed him and we saw him on Facebook. I do think someone else killing him was better than finding him hit by a car, I will give you that. Good luck this year!

It was rough! I still use one, mainly because I took it to a bow shop right after and discovered the tension was incorrect. It just happened to surface at the worst possible time. Once corrected I have shot 1000s of times with no issue. That being said, it is still an obvious point of failure that one could argue is unnecessary

That was a brute! 3 years ago I was hunting what I thought was a 160" 8pt in South central Wisconsin. On November 20th I called that buck at 11am from over 200yds away cruising the down wind side of a bedding area. I called him across a field into heavy bush only to miss low. He actually scored 176" typical 8pt. Truly the biggest deer I've ever taken. I know this cause I missed him Wednesday morning then Saturday morning was opener of Rifle season and he tried the same path cept I was holding my Browning Abolt in 260Remington. He only ran 25yds from poi! I find a buck roar will bring the big boss in over any other call but it's still a crap shoot with calling whitetails

Great video man. Good tips and I too missed a buck, not that big of course, but the same way and wasn't sure what went wrong, but I thought it had to do with the fall away rest so I went to the whisker biscuit and been using one ever since but that's what must have happened to me as well. But that's why it's called hunting, can't get em all. Stay safe and happy hunting.

Awesome content and you are a great story teller… Got my sub !!! Hate to say it but, Awesome ending !!! Reminds me of the good ole days… Hunting at an early age was one of the coolest things my Dad ever did for me. I remember driving in the back of a pickup in a bench seat facing back, no heat , 3 hrs to the Catskills mountain cabin. And you know where all the gear was..there were normally 4 Guys…so I had an Arsenal in the back. Next morning 4 am walking up the mountain pitch black by myself with a 40 40 rifle, If I’m not mistaken, cause Dad had the 30@6… And no one used that but him.. I traded my Dad a 760 pump for a 1100 , and to this day he still kicks himself. Anyway if anyone reads this, my Bow hunting experience in the pine barrens of Long Island were the very best times, and that is we’re I could a ton of crazy stories. I found you never know what to expect , so be ready as you can for anything !

I choked on a 200. I was sick! Neighbor got it and it scored 206. I'm 47 now and bringing back out my bow here in Kentucky. Their are so many quality bucks. No one bow hunts around me and our property has become a sanctuary. 30 yards off my back porch they come up for acorns. They are off limits my wife says. So to the back woods I go.

It was a good aiming shot but the only issue I saw was that he was alert and the issue with this is that they are known to "jump the string". That is exactly what happened in your scenerio. This is the reason I always wait until the deer is relaxed, head down and eating. Time permitting of course. They are less prone to "jump the string". Just my 2 cents. Very informative
@WeekendWoodsmen Жыл бұрын
Thanks of the comment. Unfortunately in this case it was 2 feet high, so any movement didn’t matter I was aimed low on him also. My fall away rest didn’t drop and it made the shot go way high and the arrow was wobbling like crazy! I have found through shooting filming lots of deer, head up or head down, they are going to jump the string to some extent. There is actually some research out there by Dr. Grant Woods shows how when they are head down they drop even MORE. It’s pretty interesting and worth watching! Good luck this year, thanks again for the comment!

Wouldn’t it be ethical to let the deer breed & shoot them afterwards? This is effectively taking the 12” crappies
@WeekendWoodsmen4 жыл бұрын
Shooting a buck won’t effect breeding, other bucks will find the hot does and breed them. If they don’t get bred they come back in heat ~28 days later and will get bred then.
@st.paulmn91594 жыл бұрын
Weekend Woodsmen The good bucks though. The genes will never propagate. I’d rather take a buck a month after rut Unless there are just tons of whitetail out there So maybe i am a fool.
@WeekendWoodsmen4 жыл бұрын
Many of these deer you never see again or have very little chance of seeing them during daylight after the rut. I personally don’t shoot bucks unless they are 3 years old or older, so they had 2+ years to spread genes. So when it comes to shooting a buck during the rut or not shooting a buck during the year, I am picking to shoot the buck.
