This is a great system. On my 2016 GSA I have two OS32 main bags, and I use up to another three OS12 bags PER SIDE when I'm fully loaded up to run a BDR here in the U.S. The workmanship is top notch, better than any other bags I've seen (Mosko Moto, Lone Rider, etc), while the strap system is quick and well thought out. My total capacity with the eight bags is a ridiculous 132L. The GSA handles the load easily.

Steve, thanks for the Vid, im looking to convert from outback trekker panniers to the Kriega soft options on the same frame as on your bike so for me your video was extremely helpful. thanks (now its down to buying it all ££££££ but worth it)

Hi Phillip I’m glad it was helpful. Just be aware you will have to remove the locking system that sits on the top of the frame (easy, only 2 x Allen key bolts) and the two lugs that sit on the bottom of the pannier. It’s a 5 minute job and I have easily switched back and forth between pannier systems in the past, although, I run with the Kriegas most of the time. I’ve beaten the hell out of the Kriegas now and they are still faultless. I’m confident your going to be happy with your new luggage. Stay safe mate and thanks for the feedback.

Great and to the point review! I used the Outback Motortek frames which u can mount these bags directly to its frame without the Kriega backing. They can also come with an “X” frame which gives u the ability to mount Rotopaks but its a friction fit to the frame which I didn’t care for, so I did buy one of the Kriega backings and can mount One gallon of gas and a gallon of water ( on top of each other) plus a 12L Kriega. The other side I have a 32L Kriega, and for long trips with camping I just strap a big duffle to the top and for really long trips I have a couple of SW motor tech 8L bags I can mount to the crash bars. I sometimes just mount these just for the added wind protection when it’s cold. Might seem like overkill but camping stuff takes space and run tube tires and to fix a flat takes a lot of space. Also nice to know that I can help out other riders or myself if I need to and that I have the options for more storage if I ever needed it.

Hi Martin thanks for the comment. I have seen the Motortek X frames, they look good and eliminate the need for the plates. I agree wholeheartedly with your point, camping and being self sufficient off the bike does take up room. I’m about to go on a mammoth trip and it sounds like your touring set up is similar to mine. Your right Sam. 100% of the Adventure varients come with racks as standard. However no standard GS bikes (like the one in the video) do come with racks as they are designed to take the Vario panniers.

Nice review. One question: You have ordered two straps and one key locks both, did you have to write something to Kriega to be keyed alike when purchasing or is this done automatic if you purchase two or more straps at the same time?

Hi, I ordered 2 x steel core locks and received a set of keys for each lock. Each set of keys worked in both locks. I did not request one set of keys for both locks that is just how they came. I also did not order from Kriega but from a third party supplier of Kriega goods called FC MOTO, they are a German company. I hope this helps, if you have any other questions don’t hesitate to ask. Firstly thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I made that video a few years ago now and if you peruse my channel you will see they have done literally thousands of miles. I'm a big Kriega fan. I've recently got a Tenere700 so now have the lighter OS base with 2 x 18ltr. I have zero complaints. TY so much for the quick reply. I am leaning towards the new system. The Kriega OS system is not very popular here in the US. But I know they may a quality product and I can fit them directly to my SW-Motech Evo Frame with the Kriega adapter. I also like the size and the clean, not overly done "adventure" look. So they would be nice on my 1200 GS. SW Motech, make a new soft bag option that I ordered and received but it doesn't look as durable, and perhaps a bit too "urban"@@GreenString. I do have one additional question, since you had them on the GS. Would you get two different sizes to get the symmetrical look?

@@rjsalameh if I was buying them again, yes. I would opt for the 32 & 22 Ltr. Keep in mind they look way wider in the video than they look in real life. With my 2 x 32 ltr they were no wider than my handle bars.

doesn't seem very easy to fit back on bike when fully loaded... i mean come back from hotel room, bag dull and you have to fiddle with the strap system to mount it. What is your opinion on this please?

Hi, it’s pretty quick to mount the bags ( even loaded ) the top two buckles are really quick to get into the upper slots, then the bags and weight are supported so you have both hands free. I do agree though, you then have to bend down to feed the lower straps through the mounting plate. This may get annoying for some riders especially if you are staying in hotels where you want to take the bags with you. However I think you will encounter this problem in one form or another with most soft luggage. I camp all of the time so the bags remain on the bike.

Hello, thank you for your video. Would it also be possible to mount the Kriega bottle-holder at the left inside on the Kriega platform ? Where you had your one liter spare fuell ? In a few months i'll be heading of to Turkey. Will also go away from the tarmac a lot. I have used panniers for 25 years but two times my leg got hurt after crashing. And i know it easily could have been much worse. But my leg got so much hurt that i could almost not even walk for two weeks. And that is no fun while being away on the bike. Hi Kees, since this video was made I have bought the Kriega bottle bag. Check out my latest video : kzbin.info/www/bejne/roiae4yXaLqBrs0. Goto 19:52 and you’ll see I have the pouch on the inside left pannier. Is this what you mean? If not the Kriega bottle holder will fit anywhere on the main bags you can fit a kriega 6 ltr bag, it has exactly the same fittings. I’m personally never going back to hard cases. I’ve been using kriega for years now have pretty much their entire OS range. It’s expensive but brilliant. If you have any other questions please let me know. @@GreenString Sorry i missed your reply. Gonna look at it now. Btw, i have used beamclips who originally are used to attach 5/8 inch pvc tubes to a metal construction so you can put electrical wire inside those at the sude of the bashplate. In this way i created fittingpoints for carrying 5 liter bags that are holding 4 1.5 liter fuelbottles. It worked great and helped with the low center of gravity. But now i will watch your vid.

​@@GreenString Needless to say i liked your video. You are allmost as horrible sarcastic as me.😂 On all my former bikes i welded an extra atrachement to the left pannierrack. What i used to mount 2 bottleholders on. For a one liter bottle and a one liter thermos. I need my coffee. This was my first time using softluggage attached to a rack. Allthough Kriega is good quality it still effect the handling of the bike going offroad. It is a compromise against softluggage straight on the bike and being able to carry less. And i do understand the need to minimise luggage but when away for several weeks you also need some stuff for comfort. Will the bottleholder also attach to the 22 liter OS bag ? Or is that to small ? My main goal for using softlugge it is safer when crashing. Something i do from time to time. While it is best to bring weight to the middle of the bike. A fuel bottle hitting your leg is maybe not so wise. But again. Still better then a hardcase. At the left inside of the os rack i attached an old Acerbis one gallon tank. For spare fuel. And only filling that up when needed. Twice i tried a fuelbladder. But both times they ripped open while crashing. Allthough it was also a bit my own fault cause i should have emptied them in the tank as soon as possible. Lazy and undisciplined me. But i forgive myself a lot. 🙈

I am interested in these bags, and I am struggling whether I go for the 22 or the 32 version. It is a real struggle, since I have no idea how they will fit on the CRF1100L with the X-Frame rack from Outback Motortek. I don't want my motorcycle to become too wide (with the 2x 19cm of the OS-32, it would about 102cm), since I would use it to commute. I would put my laptop and other belongings in there, and use it instead of a backpack. If you have any tips for my situation, I hope you will reply on this.

Hi, I've not seen the X Frame on the AT, but I have seen it on other bikes and it is quite wide out of the box. For that reason I would opt for 32 ltr for the left & 22ltr for the right. I use mine, every day for commuting but basically only need one pannier for my things, the other I simply push it in and it becomes narrow. @@GreenString I have the symmetrical one, on which both sides are the same width (I did not like the a-symmetrical). If I would have had the a-symmetrical, I would indeed have chosen the 32-22 combination. I would also only use one bag, so one will stay at home when I would go to the office, and the other would be used daily (the one staying at home would be used during longer rides of course). When comparing to other brands, 19cm is not that wide (Mosko Moto's 35L option and the Giant Loop's RTW for example), so I have no idea if it is common/normal for soft luggage to make the motorcycle wider. The difference in width for the OS-32 and 22 is only 4cm per side, so are these 8cm in total really going so safe me...? No idea :( . The motorcycle itself is 96cm wide on the widest part, so the 2x OS-32 combination would make the motorcycle 6cm wider, while the OS-22 has 2cm of space to be more packed before making the motorcycle wider. Too bad no Kriega dealers here in the Netherlands have the bags in stock, otherwise I could maybe fit them and see which ones I like most (or even put all my commute stuff in there and see if the OS-22 is big enough for me). @@caridinaintruder4218 OK now I understand. I guess the safest bet is to get 2 x 32 (as I have). As I mentioned on the video, if not completely filled you can compress them somewhat, I do this while commuting by simply squashing them in and they become much narrower. Naturally if you are confident you can travel super light then I guess the 22s are the way forward. Finally do you have a company called Louis in Germany? If so they stock Kriega. m.louis.de/marken/kriega Not sure if that's helpful?

Technically, yes but I you'll need the straps to go over your seat (not sure if they still do them, check the website) Also the position of your exhaust could play a factor. 👍🏻

Question: I have the standard Triumph / Givi outback hard paniers on my new Tiger 900. When it comes to the rack system, i supose it is similar to the Gs mounted Givi. Now, did you, and how did you remove the locking system on the Givi racks ? As i understand the Kriega plate won't mount when that locking system is still on the bars of the rack ?

Hi, good question. The Triumph system is exactly the same. To fit the mounting plate you need to undo 4 bolts. The top two (located on the locking mechanism with the red/green indicator) removes the entire top silver piece leaving a flush surface to mount the plate, and the two lugs that your panniers sit on at the bottom. It's very simple and I once undone can easily be re fitted if you want to remount hard panniers again. I hope this makes sense. If not let me know and I will explain in more detail. 👍🏻

Quick question, do you know if the OS platform will fit on the Givi PL684 rack? It seems like it would because it does not seem drastically different than the trekker rack but I could be wrong....

Mate I just googled PL648 and couldn’t find a picture of the rack so I’m not sure. I do however know the rack frame has to be flat to accommodate the platform.

Keith, yes they will. That is exactly what I have them fitted on in the video. But.. you must remove the locking mechanism at the top (2 bolts) and the mounting lugs on the bottom of the frame (2 x Allen keys) it is very easy to do. I hope this helps

@@keithemery2712 No, to fit the Kriega mounting plate you need a flat (ish) surface. I think you could however fit them with straps only (going over your rear seat). That should work, but I have not personally tried that method. If you want complete compatability with hard and soft luggage on a givi cam mounting rack then (if you haven't already) look at the Givi Gravel soft luggage, that should mount directly on withoothe need to remove bolts.
