Honestly, if you judge Kris on his voice, you're not getting it at all. He is our greatest songwriter, hands-down. It is a privilege to hear him sing his own words, and awesome to see him embraced by younger audiences.

"Our"? Who's? You and your wife? If you are talking about our country and you think this guy is a better songwriter than lets say, Bob Dylan, then you are very wrong. Sorry to say.

That's why I freakin' love the FF's! They are long in the tooth, so to speak, and have so much "old blood" running through their veins. The greatest garage band ever. They are not afraid to tackle a song. Geez, from Queen's "Under Pressure", to "Zep's "R&R" w/ Page n JPJ on stage, to as country as you can get here. They are so revered in the rock world because they too revere all music and give back. Rock on fella's!

Kris and Dave carrying the torch for the true roots of American folk (sometimes called country but I'm Scottish). Didn't Johnny do well? Biggest inspiration in my life at least, thanks Mr Cash for building the bridges for a new generation of original thinkers. Music has no boundry! Big middle finger in respect! yes drunk :) Happy smiles.

Johnny Cash is also my hero and I consider Kris his ypunger brother in so many ways like all the Highwaymen are brothers. They wanted him to change the lyrics from "wishing lord that I was stoned" to "Wishing that I was home" and Kris said "Well, that means something entirely different, it's a whole step lower you see" 🤣 Kris figured that's how it had to be as he carried no weight at all at the time and Johnny just stared at him during the conversation. Didn't say what he was gonna sing. Kris was sitting in the audience the first time Cash recorded it and The Man In Black looked right up and sang " Wishing lord that I was stoned" And Kris about fell out of the balcony 👏 He wasn't gonna let the creativity of this very promising newcomer or this beautiful song be stifled in any way.

Lyrics: Well, I woke up Sunday morning, With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt. And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, So I had one more for dessert. Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes, And found my cleanest dirty shirt. An' I shaved my face and combed my hair, An' stumbled down the stairs to meet the day. I'd smoked my brain the night before, On cigarettes and songs, I'd been pickin'. But I lit my first and watched a small kid, Cussin' at a can that he was kicking. Then I crossed the empty street, 'n caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken. And it took me back to somethin', That I'd lost somehow, somewhere along the way. On the Sunday morning sidewalk, Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned. 'Cos there's something in a Sunday, Makes a body feel alone. And there's nothin' short of dyin', Half as lonesome as the sound, On the sleepin' city sidewalks: Sunday mornin' comin' down. In the park, I saw a daddy, With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'. And I stopped beside a Sunday school, And listened to the song they were singin'. Then I headed back for home, And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'. And it echoed through the canyons, Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday. Do do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do

The song is full of lines like this - most of Kris' songs actually. That's one reason why he's such a great singer/songwriter. In my opinion THE greatest. ...for my cloth and found my cleanest dirty shirt.... :D

@GunsNRoses247 I know you posted this comment a year ago, but Im pretty sure Dave is intentionally singing high and light to give the version more contrast and that typical country feel. He ends up sounding a bit young neil young like and I think the last verse when they harmonise sounds great.

Ironic that Kurt Cobain was a fan of Kris Kristofferson too. Kurt wrote a lyric on Lithium - " sunday moring is everday, for all I care" so its fitting to see FF do this.
@Biglotsemployee15 жыл бұрын
haha, why is there always a competition or something? Kris is playing with em. He doesn't seem to have a problem with it. Although i feel Kris Kris Kristoffersson is an amazing talented man that deserves more credit.

Foo fighters are in the top 5 shows I've ever seen, and I've seen thousands. I've saw Clapton, Government mule, Rush, Jeff Beck, Black crows, and a few others in the last year and the foos were the best. Rush isn't far behind though.

Kris always said he was taken aback by Ray Stevens version. Stevens turns this song almost into a church hymn. please listen to stevens studio version. Its like a religous experience.

RIP TH In 30 years of being a famous musician Dave Grohl has transformed from being the aggressive, loud, perfect drummer for Kurt and Krist to such a well rounded, multi-talented leader of his own band that has been going strong for nearly 30 years now. Grohl is so highly skilled he can play every instrument and perform any musical genre. Kris Kristopherson has always been a better writer than artist. If I remember correctly Kris has an outrageously high iQ. His parents were very pissed at him for pursuing a career in music instead of going into the medical field, military career or politics.

Johnny Cash murdered this song same for the Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl's voice is just too squeeky. In my opinion the version with Steve Earl nails it The band the arrangement everything is just right.
@ColetivoLunar3 жыл бұрын
Cash murdered this song? I bet even Kris would disagree with you. You might not like it, but to say he “murdered” it is just plain nonsense.

Cash made this song; if it wasn’t for his genius of spotting a brilliant talent, this song would have ended up being the party piece of an old janitor
