My neutrals are browns/taupe/mole, greys, navy, denim and air-force blue. I find black and white, alone or in combination, quite harsh for a variety of reasons, for example I like wearing white in the summer when I'm tanned, it's also easy to get dirty so not very practical. I'm 58 and black can be draining, chic but washes me out and makes me look severe and old.

Thanks for all your videos, they really help! I have a different color palette based on the season - clearer and brighter in spring and summer, more neutral and muted in fall and winter. I dont tan in summer but just gravitate to those colors.

I’m getting it…today I put together an outfit based on what goes with what. THEN I thought of what you said about everything going with what’s in your closet. BINGO NOW I will select a top or pants I want to wear and then start grabbing things to see what I can make. Wow. Can’t believe I didn’t get this before. Not everything will go, but that’ll help decide what things to keep and what to donate.

Hi! I’m new(ish) to your videos, and I’m enjoying them. I’m fortunate in that I have coloring that works with many colors and I’ve always felt comfortable with choosing colors. One thing I have found - and I’d like to know what you think about it - is that if there’s a color I like, but feel it washes me out or doesn’t do me any big favors, if I have a different color near my face, for instance a scarf, sometimes that’s all I need to do to wear that color. Thank you for your style encouragement.

Great video. I loved what you said about wearing what you feel good in, even if it “washes you out”. I love camel and olive green, though they don’t love my neutral olive skin, so I just add a red lip, a scarf or a white shirt underneath voila. :)

I also decorate my home in beachy blues and greens but have two Tiffany blue sweaters that I love but rarely wear. I wear a lot of black (my mom told me to never wear it) but some of my favorite items are black. Your pallet is very similar to mine without the tans and orange. I have a hot pink top now because of you.

Great video. As you say, I could easily pick out my best and worst colours, but a professional analysis many years ago was helpful for finding some of the others, including neutrals. This matters because I’m petite, so the options are reduced, and I quite often use second best colours with accessories which really suit me. I’m slightly anomalous ( cool pale skin, mixed mouse hair which bleaches in sun and sea, but darker greyish brown eyes) so some of the standardised advice wasn’t helping. Eg wearing my eye colour looks truly awful 😂

I had my colors done back in the 80’s and still have, and use the color pallet I was given. It’s always been very helpful! Where I struggle now is with my salt and pepper hair color and changing skin color. I feel I have to lean more towards the brighter end of my color pallet to brighten up my complexion. Also, I’ve always been a gold jewelry lover but now am wondering if I need to go to silver? Thanks for the video!

I love watching you and Alison Lumbatis. Your methods are simple and doable. I usually know what I feel good in. For example, I had a long sleeve top that was a color I never felt good in when I wore it. After I had my color analysis done, I knew why. It was a cool burgundy, and I have been typed as a warm undertone. My husband liked it, but I had to donate it. I have been recently getting dressed in the clothes in my closet everyday even though I may not be going anywhere. It has been a game changer. Not only do I feel better about myself, but it is helping me to see what colors I feel good in. Actually, the less I have in my closet the simpler it is getting dressed. Getting dressed seemed so much easier when I wore only dresses and skirts and had less in my 20's through 40's. You look great in gray where I feel washed out. I loved the last scarf you showed us as an example. I love scarfs. They can brighten up an ordinary outfit. Also, I love the colors in your home which are the colors I have in mine, and I would feel very good wearing those colors for tops, not in pants. I always default back to jeans.

This was a very helpful video. I gravitate toward certain colours but it has come with maturity. I have many items that are only worn occasionally and some never 🫤. This is probably due to lifestyle since I am retired. I have a nice burgundy pair of legging type pants but very little to go with them. I think probably a cream sweater would look good. I like to wear warm clothes during the winter.

Great video! I've had several color analyses, which all agreed that I'm a jewel tone summer. Those were already colors I gravitated to. I like to wear color in my tops and neutrals in bottoms. I've narrowed down my neutrals to navy, cream, soft white, all shades of denim, and a cool olive green. The colors are all cool tone shades of green and plums and blues, varying from light to dark in all. One color that is great on me is grey but I find it depressing and don't like it on myself so I don't wear it. Having a really tight palette definitely does make it easier to dress and shop.

You are right about colored pants or color tops, so insightful. I buy colored pants and I don’t wear them and now I know why. PS I love the Quince items I have bought I love navy, grey and denim for bottoms and have added army green recently For tops, I use navy, red, grey, white, brown and burgundy

My favorite colors that predominant my weardrobe are warm shades of blue, green, and purple. Black and grey wash me out so I do brown or navy for darks. I also love peach toned pinks. I do have plenty of things outside that pallet like the corduroy barn jacket I made about 4 years ago that looks great with royal blue. Some years ago there were all the lists of what we must have so I bought white or off white t-shirts......I NEVER reach for them.

Color pallets also reduce the number of different colored bags and shoes that are necessary. Everything goes with everything when your colors work together. I buy neutral shoes that go with my entire wardrobe. I once had a beautiful blouse I loved, I called it a closet blouse. I’d constantly try it on and then put it back in the closet. After five years I had my colors done and realized it was the wrong white for me and that’s why I never felt comfortable in it. Most people have a large number of their favorite palette colors already in their closet. I agree with the ‘check your closet’ tactic.

I was just doing this a couple days ago. I am using my color swatches from my House of Colour analysis and trying to figure out which colors to limit to. I’m really trying to get away from having all the “one offs” that don’t really work with anything. I’m finding that I really don’t like bright colors but those are fine for exercise clothing.

I love that concept. It's common sense, but sometimes we end up buying something in a colour that doesn't go with our wardrobe just because we like the piece or we saw someone else wearing it and it looked good on the other person... This concept also limits purchases. Another thing I'd add is that I tend to buy the darker colours for bottoms and brighter ones for the top part. Maybe if you'd like to show off your legs more so you'd go for the opposite.

Kristen can you do a video on wearing skirts? Apart from 60’s minis and work skirts many years ago I live in pants, joggers, leggings- except for special occasions. I would love to wear more skirts everyday but I’m so used to having the warmth of covered legs plus the convenience of trousers that I can’t figure it out! 💞

Ah, yes - the closet items that were so attractive but don't go with anything you own and sit there, year after year, waiting to get out and play! I know which colors I wear over and over and that are the core of my wardrobe - I could probably get rid of half my things since it's the core wardrobe that gets worn consistently. There are surprises - like the coral polo top I bought because the price was so good (I know, I know - but it worked out 😁). I had red hair and brown eyes so never bought anything in the red/pink/coral area but my hair darkened as I got older so it worked, or as my mother said, "That color looks surprisingly good on you 😆!" I wore it until it faded! So, a reappraisal with hair color change and age is something to keep in mind. Also, summer colors and winter colors, partly because some colors aren't available as much in winter clothing lines and the other way around, too.

Sorry but I disagree that you can just take any of your tops and any of your bottoms and they all look amazing whatever the colour combination. I can see several "forced" combinations that personally I wouldn't put together. I am petite and like my tops and bottoms to be the same colour or at least tonal, with a layer in a different colour/pattern, this way of dressing elongates me and creates harmony. I'm not saying that some of your colour combinations are awful, but they're not fantastic either. Just my opinion, I don't mean to offend you, everyone's taste is different of course. I don't mind if some of my tops don't go with some of my bottoms, I just create and style separate looks/outfits, there's nothing wrong with that. I like variety, I'd get bored with a capsule wardrobe.
