His dad destroyed their legacy. rickson ducked and dodged any real competition, including Bas Rutten, Kazushi Sakuraba, and many others who called him out. Instead he chose to take on takada, funaki, and other no-names. Then when his kid Rockson dies of a drug overdose, rickson comes out with "I'll never fight again". Fighting had no connection to his kid's demise. He just bowed out of getting an ass whooping. At least Royce, Royler, Renzo, and other Gracies put their necks on the line and fought top competition. He was there ringside when Sakuraba destroyed his brother Royler (props to Royler for fighting a dangerous Sakuraba), and Kazushi called out Rickson, but he ran to the hills. But yeah, rickson pissed on the family's legacy a long time ago with his "undefeated" padded record and his ducking and dodging. Props to Kron for fighting legit competition. Something his father never did ON PURPOSE.
@interestedparty7523Ай бұрын
They say the son’s death cancelled the Sakuraba fight but let’s be real, Rickson could have faced top competition anytime from 1996 - 2000 before Rockson’s passing, he chose easier fights. Funaki wasn’t a slouch but he was a mental midget in MMA.

seriously a child dying is definitely something that can make a man quit, people who lose children describe how suddenly nothing matters anymore, and maybe then you don't really feel like having a job like fighting anymore? why would you? its a tough job, if you are a ducker you probably dont enjoy it assuming his kid dying and him quiting after being ducking seems kinda unemphatetic? am I missing something? he was ducking before for sure but after losing a son? why would his sons death not having anything to do with it? It makes sense that if he wasn't feeling it before the death of his child then when nothing matters anymore the thing to do would be to quit have ya been around parents who lost children? they are never the same again and not everyone reacts the same either, some do the opposite and bury themselves in work, I gotta say it looks like you are assuming more than you need, you already had him down as a ducker before you brought up Rockson plus imagine being born into the Gracie family, perhaps Rickson did not even want to be a fighter in the first place? I don't know. I try not to assume.
@paulosicne8498Ай бұрын
@@axelnilsson2031 You are missing something here. There's been athletes for years that have lost loved ones, most recently Francis Ngannou. I don’t know exactly when the shift happened, but for simplicity’s sake I’ll say since 2020 onwards, almost no MMA fighter and most Jujitsu gyms worth their salt aren’t learning/teaching BJJ anymore. They’re teaching/learning submission grappling. Submission grappling has many elements from BJJ but it’s not BJJ. Submission Grappling is essentially the ‘MMA’ of grappling arts. Folk Style, Freestyle, Greco-Roman Wrestling, BJJ, Judo, Sambo, Catch Wrestling to some extent etc

At a certain level, wrestlers can stall submissions and dominate with position negating bjj's threats. Catch wrestling teaches position over/before submission. Bjj accepts bad positions too happily and has weak takedowns.

I gotta agree with you man. I'd even go as far as to say that Jiu Jitsu is just a miscellaneous tool in the toolbelt that one only use when the opportunity presents itself. Like for examples Charles Oliveira is a master at Jiu Jitsu. But he's not a 'one trick pony' 🦄 Charles can strike, and he can grapple. He could improve his wrestling against superfighters like Islam Makhachev but I digress. . . The point is, unless you're a physical specimen, you're not going to 'Gracie Jiu Jitsu' your way to the top. I think Bryce Mitchell wins this on every level and 36 year old Kron Gracie is left with few career choices.

This fight reminds me of the rampage podcast when he talked about when pride did bounce back fights after a loss, giving my bro Mitch a W
