. Measures to increase groundnut production:- Groundnuts lead the nation in oilseed crop production. Over 40-50% of the country's area and 60-70% of its production are devoted to groundnuts, out of all oilseed crops. In India, the States of Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Orissa are the main locations for its cultivation. Major groundnut-producing districts in Gujarat include Rajkot, Katchh, Amreli, Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, and Junagadh. Well-drained, light-textured, friable, sandy, and sandy loam soils are ideal for groundnut growth and development. Deep ploughing should be avoided since, despite the groundnut's underground pod-forming nature, it stimulates the formation of pods in deeper soil layers, making harvesting more challenging. Typically, groundnut sowing occurs at the start of the monsoon season. In Gujarat pre-monsoon sowing during the last week of May or the first week of June with pre-sowing irrigation resulted in a 46% increase in yield.
