My dad's always been a greaser, and he'll die a greaser and so will I. I grew up in the culture myself and I love the freedom and unity it carries. I never leave home without my leather jacket in the summer (or at least a leather vest if it's way too hot). Never carry weapons myself, as I feel I don't really need them. I prefer to remain peaceful - but I will tango if someone really wants to and won't take a hint.

A few guys owned switchblades, but they prized them and kept them hidden away, as they were highly illegal and strictly for show. The knife most gang bangers back in early 60's NYC carried was the K-55. If you've never seen one you can probably google up a photo. I think they are still being made in Germany. Anyway, it's a very flat, all steel pocket knife. Even the slabs are made of steel and are enameled black with the K-55 cat logo in white of gold. The reason that we carried them is that they were cheap, maybe two bucks, and that meant that if you had to ditch your blade, which happened frequently, it was no great loss. NYC sewer drains were probably full of them. They were legal, but that didn't stop the cops from making a big deal out of it if they took one from you, so ditching yours saved a lot of hassle. The last reason for carrying one is that they were concealable. You could shove one into the small pocket of your jeans right behind your garrison belt and it was practically invisible.

Further to the weapons that you showed; I never saw brass knuckles when i was a kid. I'm pretty sure that they were illegal in NYC, so it doesn't surprise me that nobody had them. I saw them at a gun show in Florida recently, but they were being advertised as "paper weights". LOL. No need for a bicycle chain. As I mentioned in another thread of yours, a studded Garrison belt was just as good and there was no need to explain why you wore one as *everybody* did.

In the UK there are very tough weapon laws. For example, you cannot carry any knife in public without good reason unless it's a small folding knife with a maximum 3 inch long blade. Aha. But would still love a nice classic switch-blade or butterfly. Stay cool, Kryptic!

I was a kid in 1950's Brooklyn, everyone wore a garrison belt, it was a favorite weapon, wrap it around your wrist once or twice and swing the buckle at the guy you were fighting. There was a technique used to keep from hitting yourself. Some schools prohibited students from wearing a garrison belt but they weren't illegal. Cuban heels with horseshoe taps were popular, they were good for stomping guys in a fight, also not illegal. Two socks, one inside the other with a few marbles inside helped keep your distance in a fight. Something which isn't available today but was readily accessible back then is a car antenna, a very good weapon and easy to break off of the car, they weren't illegal. A church key could be used as a weapon, they weren't illegal. Zip guns, switchblades and saps (black jacks) were big time illegal, they were kept in a hiding spot for big fights. Getting arrested with one of those was not good but the worst thing was losing the weapon. Back around '58 -'60 there was a thing going around called the "punk test". You'd run a comb back and forth across the underside of your wrist until the skin broke and started to bleed, it would leave a scar. When gangs, like The MOM's (a notorious gang back then), would come across a kid they'd ask to see his punk test, if the kid didn't have one, they'd hold him down and scar him real good. Believe me, it was better to give yourself the scar than have a bunch of maniacs do it for you. One of the initiations into The MOM's was to tell the prospect to jump up, after complying they'd ask, "who told you to come down?" Then they'd beat the shit out of him. One time, a cop was beating the shit out of one of our friends, the only way we could stop him was to set his patrol car on fire. A slice of pizza was 10 cents, a meatball hero was 50 cents, life was good... for a while!

A knife is a shitty self defence weapon anyway. It is highly lethal but has no stopping power against a raging or drugged up attacker. plus the mess. the impact weapons have more stopping power and death is less likely if you know what your doing.. I don't know what it is about greasers but they are pretty iconic..I grew up watching reruns of Happy Days so the Fonz was pretty much my intro..then when I hit middle school we watched West Side Story sometimes. Growing up I can't tell you how many of those switchblade combs I had as a kid..probably doesn't hurt that I take after my grandpa and my hair naturally goes to the classic pompadour hairstyle that is another iconic greaser look.

the knife length in California depends in each county, im the LA county that's where you measure with your Palm. I live in the riverside county and i dont think there is a knife blade length.

That doesn’t look like a big ring, but I bet it can really knock some skin off and chip some bone. I have a huge vampire skull ring I never wear, that sucker can hurt someone.

Wait so I’ve seen some people wrap the chain around their knuckles and a buddy of mine even wrapped his belt around his fist to where the metal piece was sticking out. Is that the right way to use these?
