Facts that should have been covered in this news story. DPS Trooper Apolonio Gomez was arrested by Mexican authorities in 2019 after he crossed the border into Mexico pursuing a suspect. Gomez was detained for allegedly violating Mexico's sovereignty and violating international protocols. The incident sparked tensions between U.S. and Mexican authorities. After diplomatic efforts, Gomez was released and returned to the United States. The incident highlighted the complexities of cross-border law enforcement operations.

The police officer made a mistake by driving into Mexico, but we don't have all the details. 1. Tunnel vision is real, and anyone who's been in adrenaline-inducing situations knows this. 2. We don't know the officer's full circumstances. He could have been sleep-deprived, which is a common cause of mistakes. Cops often work long, irregular hours that can impair cognitive function. 3. In some cities, criminals frequently evade the police, and this vehicle might have a history of doing so. I'm glad this woman was caught, and hopefully, she will be prosecuted. She's likely done this before and thought she could get away with it again. We can't let criminals do whatever they want.

The balls on this cop to go into Mexico and arrest a woman on foreign soil, and search the car!? I'm surprised he wasn't arrested by the Mexican customs cops.

The 2nd incident is CERTAINLY questionable but i don't really have a problem with the 1st chase. Are they saying that every entitled suspect that decides to run can just cross into Mexico to lose cops and all consequences? That shouldn't be the case. I would hope Mex authorities would get her, but honestly idk if it would work like that, which sets a really bad precedent.
@robertsmith2956Ай бұрын
I wouldn't have a problem if he was arrested as soon as he pulled a gun in mexico. Or shot if he failed to follow orders.
@nomenclature9373Ай бұрын
Had the US cop allowed the Mexican cops to effect the arrest, she might have been deported back to the US. Since he continued with the arrest, wayyyyy outside his operational authority, he F'd the case.
@robertsmith2956Ай бұрын
@@nomenclature9373 Arrest he for what? Like any good citizen she stopped at customs, unlike the cop.
@nomenclature9373Ай бұрын
@@robertsmith2956 That is the point. He was outside his authority. He could have realized he F'd up and asked for the Mexican BP to assist. Depending on how well his BS, she might have been deported back. Her stopping was the best thing for her. Removal of her from the car was dumb.

A dedicated cop that doesn't give up a chase. Even though he breaks the law, he's determined. We need more officers like him, a good role model for other officers. As proved thru all his actions, he still has a job. So to all officers, don't worry about your actions, your job is secured.

You think so? Seems like he’s not truthful and his fear level and adrenaline is to high. As in the situation with chasing the woman over the border line. Try working in a hospital with people who are mentally disturbed, sometimes nurses get hurt when these patients approach them, but they are also trained to deescalate these situations. Why can’t police officers get better training?
