There is still a way for your aircraft to be an ssto : you could have clipped the nuclear engine into the rapier, and then use the move tool to make sure only the nuclear nozzle is in front of the rapier. I ve used this trick for a long time and it still works in KSP 1.7.0. Anyway, good video as always! - a french viewer

I landed on the FUCKING NORTH POLE. Strapped drouge chutes to a greenfield mk4 and flew it there, only to find out that I didn't have enough fuel. Lost more kerbals than I saved. ( did this in sandbox,btw)

Something I've done a few times (kinda breaks "SSTO" purist mode, but is still SSTO) is to use a drop tank. I fly it to orbit, then pump all my remaining oxidizer into the tank, pump all the liquid fuel out, then detach it to dump the excess mass.

Probably drop the tank a several m/s before reaching orbit, unless you want to use it as a wet lab space station or something.

Thanks! I used to do it quite a bit but tend to avoid it now as it feels a little cheat-y to have cockpits clipped into full fuel tanks :P

It feels weird to hear about the initial issues with SSTOs. I came in at around 1.2 and began working on SSTOs on my first play-through (all play-throughs are Career Mode). By the time 1.3 came out, my standard for most SSTOs was the ability to land on the Mun, which I always focused on first before Minmus. Watching you and Mark Thrimm helped me to get really good at them as well.

On your final pass through the atmosphere before getting circularised you should point downwards after the periapsis so you break and raise the periapsis instead of lowering it, just as a tip :)

You had way more fuel than needed to get back from minmus. When leaving orbit around minmus, just do the burn against the direction in wich minmus is going around Kerbin so you are lowering the kerbin orbit while escaping minmus.

I've tried to make cargo SSTOs soo many times. Not one worked. The only working ones ive made where either small, or modified jets.

Have you watched any videos from Mark Thrimm? He made the best cargo SSTOs that could be found. Lots of good info there to get better at it yourself. His top one was able to carry over 400 tons of very wide cargo to LKO. All stock as well.

You get almost exactly the same momentum change per unit of fuel putting it through a rapier as a nuclear engine. You get strictly better performance by burning through as much of your oxidiser as possible with the rapiers before turning them off. Not quite a dump, but worth remembering. Also, I think I would have gone with a solid fuel booster instead of the whiplash. Mostly aesthetics though.

I was working on a SSTO that looked very much like that one . The difference was I was working on a Low Tech version and tabled it for a while. Two Jets with a swivel I think it was but it was a single passenger in this case. Ran into delta-V issues. Either too much fuel where I couldn't make it passed 24k or not enough to make and keep orbit. Instead I went back to a 20 passenger SSTO and sorted that out. In sandbox am doing the Grand Tour of KSP. It has some problems but am sorting through it. Front landing gear falling off for one. But it's not as easy as when you did it as I also have TACS lifesupport. Royal pain in the arse.

Finished my first attempt. Well, it looked great in Kerbal Engineer but tanked fast around 10k . Cheated into orbit but the deltaV was still off. I had to use the Mun for a gravity assist. Used two whiplash and one Nuc. You can keep the rapiers. I only use them when there is no other choice. IE, Duna, or alike. Not sure at this point if SSTO's will work on Eve.

There's a mod, TAC Feul Balancer, which lets you select tanks to transfer fuel in/out of and also lets you dump fuel.

Build a hotel in space using SSTOs and launch it to Minmus with an SSTO, then dock it with the original minmus hotel. That's the only thing I can think would be hard for you.

Sorry to say, but he won't. He did do a Science Mode last year, though. The main difference between Science and Career modes is needing to make money. Most people find it boring to watch the money making part. If you really want to watch one though, Mark Thrimm and Marcus House both did some great Career modes. Mark's was focused on SSTOs while Marcus was a little more standard, though very funny.
