Years ago a friend of mine pulled an elderly, unconscious man from a burning vehicle after an accident. He stayed with him until paramedics arrived and then left before he ever came to. Two years later he was contacted by a private investigator that the unconscious man had been paying for 20 months with the sole task of finding out who he was and locating him. The investigator told my friend that the man wanted to thank him and wire him $10,000 for saving his life. My friend agreed to a phone call with the man so he could thank him, but refused to accept the money. His reason was "Id want someone to do it for my father". I just wanted to thank everyone who has shown support for their kind words. I've sent a link to this thread to my friends sister and mother. I cannot imagine the weirdness and embarrassment that would have come for me if people had tried to prop me up or "recognize" me for doing the thing that decent, caring human being would do. I didn't need anything more than distressed screams to motivate me and, honestly, nobody should. It chills me, sometimes, to remember that, later, watching the security footage to nail down a timeline for the cops, that one store employee and one bystander *ignored* the screams and cries to either *keep sweeping the floor* or *run away uselessly*. You'll never motivate cowards and you're only going to embarrass and annoy actual good samaritans. In the middle ground, though, I get it - it does help to have these calls to goodness and beacons of hope. But the real heroes - not that I am calling myself one - would have never needed it in the first place. It's in your blood and in your heart, the call to protect.

@@chrondog18 maybe this will help. You don't need a licence to drive on private property. Cause you're using your vehicle on your land. It's your business what you do there. Once you take your car on public road, you are agreeing to abide by the rules set by the people who collectively decided to make the road. It's not your road, but if you follow the rules, you can use it. Same concept applies for masking. Private businesses are allowed to say people don't need to wear a mask in their store. That is constitutional, because it's their property. You put whoever you want behind the wheel on your property, and people are not legally allowed to drive on your property if you don't want them there, because: your road, your rules. But in order to use roads that aren't yours, you need to abide on agreed rules, and if you don't, you forfeit the right to drive an the road, and the police should stop you because the ones who own the road don't want you to drive there without certain assurances. You might say "oh I pay taxes so I own the road". Not quite, it's like owning a share in it, and that doesn't mean you override the agreed upon rules unless you own it completely, (or are enough of the majority to change the rules). The fact that this man yelled at his passenger to grab the gun is completely unnecessary, and indicates that not only was he willing to put others in danger, but he actively wanted to involve her in a crime as well. A crime way more serious than a traffic stop. So no, the police aren't Nazis for enforcing the rules, because you actively agree to the rules when you use public roads. You want to drive without a licence, do it on your property. You want to use another person's property, you follow their rules or follow proper channels to change said rule. This man helped an officer deescalate a dangerous situation, and that does make him a hero. Simple as that.

Why do you hope he comes forward? What if he doesn't want to come forward? This is one of the many problems with being a good Samaritan in modern society. If I were to see someone struggling for their life and I was able to help them, there are, unfortunately, other things that would go through my head. 1. Would someone sue me as a result? 2. Would the media come after me? 3. Could I potentially put myself or family in danger as a result of the publicity? In this case, could the buddies of the guy being arrested identify me through the media and show up at my house? Leave the dude alone. He clearly didn't do it for the recognition.

This is what Good Citizens do.. Don't just stand back and watch as someone's life is in danger.. Get in there and help.. This was a Brave act by a citizen that knew this officer's life was in danger.. Great Job Guy.. Sometimes it only takes so little effort to turn a bad situation into a much better situation.. A few more seconds.. Who knows what the outcome would have been ? But chances are.. It would not have been good.. Cops go out and do their jobs like anyone clocking in on their shifts. Most have families that want that cop coming home unharmed.. All this crap about all cops are bad is Hogwash.. I do not approve of such talk.. Yes there may be one bad one to every 15 or twenty.. But on the most part.. They are Heroes and We Need Them.. Most are Proud to Wear that Badge of Honor.. They should be.. @Vash theStampede Derek Chauvin, the Cop that actually killed Floyed, was Found Guilty of Murder ! Sentenced to 22.5 Years in Prison. He has appealed. But the sentence will stick. Although I agree that the Death Penalty should have been applied .. We must think of how that cop's life is over.. He will never wear a badge again. Plus 22.5 years in prison is no walk in the park. Not to mention.. This trial sent a message out to All the other Want-to-Be Bad Cops.. That message is.. They will be held accountable for their actions.. So yes.. I kept up and also feel there was justice for Floyed. We live in a society where when, someone has committed a crime. It is up to the courts to put this person through trial and hand down punishment as the court fills is right. This was done. Chauvin did not walk up to someone with premeditated murder on his mind then carry out that murder.. He committed murder while supposedly trying to make an arrest. This is how the court seen it. Evidence shows this.. Yes the law needs changed in that aspect.. But it is what it is.. Not to mention the Floyed Family will gain monetary retribution.. Plus the other two cops are going to pay. The bottom line here is this.. Chauvin was found guilty of murder. Labeled for eternity.. I call that justice..
