He restrained him without hate in his heart and talked to him calmly because even though the guy was a law breaking criminal, the Lord says to show them the mercy that He has shown us. If the guy had fought back he would have gotten hurt and yes he will pay for his crime. This shows not everyone is willing to sacrifice their Life for someone else. But the truth is that there is no greater sacrifice than to save someone elses life.
