The competition in the 400-500cc range is a good thing. If they sell, Honda will have another crack at the CRF450L.

A quick tip for those of you that have the ktm 390 adventure (or thinking of getting it) and want to solve the low rpm issue. So I got my wife a used 390 duke and while trying it out I loved the engine and how it was peppy so I decided to get for myself a ktm 390 adventure and the difference between the two (engine wise) was sooo different (especially on the low rpm range) to the point I was like really unhappy with my 390 adventure. Knowing that they are the same engine I decided to see why there was this difference, one of them was the obvious one that my wife's 390 duke had an akrapovic muffler installed, then opening the air box I realized a sport air filter. So I ordered the sport air filter and installed it and I must say the low rpm problem really improved and it's a lot more drivable now, to the point that I'm comfortable with it. I haven't tried the exhaust yet (too expensive too buy for now and my wife won't let me "replace" hers), however I do feel that the 390 engine with these two modifications can really be improved. As far as the riding position, I agree, it's really wrong and unnatural for some reason, trying some bar risers in the hopes it'll fix it (any ideas are well received, I'm 1,70 cm). If not, a sad disappointment for what could otherwise have been a good bike.

I wish Fantic had dealers in the United States. The Caballero 500 Rally looks like a great bike.

Hey Solid, I had the Ktm 390 adv, personally for me coming from a Ktm Freeride 350 it wasn’t my cup of tea. Not enough power for on-road for me and was just ok on the dirt. I should bought the Honda crf300L. You’re right about the riding position for dirt, it felt like you were sitting on the bike where the bmw Gs310 has a much better riding position for a 5’6 bloke and riding dirt inspired much more confidence. Great show mate keep it up.

I can't wait for you to ride the MT450, nothing in this category even comes close, nothing. I'm at nearly 5000km on mine now with road trips, dirt roads, adventures and even an enduro event done on it. I loved my Aprilia Tuareg but from the insurance money I got paid out when it was written off I got my MT and had another 10k in my pocket for trips.

Great issue Solid. I until late 2022 had an XR600RK from 1989. that bike was a weapon. Loved it in the bush but not great on the road the way I had mine set up. I never rode the XR650L with electric start but by all accounts that was very similar to the 600 but about 20 KG heavier. I still think the XR650L would make an Ideal dual sport with a little softer suspension and a change to the gearing. On my 600 I ran 15/48 and that was ideal for single track, hilly muddy and rocky terrain - twin track and OK for commuting but not great on Highway at 100-110 was too high in the rev range and vibration of the big single thumper at top revs was a thing. However for a dual sport maybe a 15/42 or 15/43 gearing might be better suited to road speeds. I found the 600 had a solid rear frame to mount all the soft luggage you could need and with the right tires would make a very capable dual sport that just ate off road. Wind buffeting with a rally style deflector and an altered front mud gard would also make a huge improvement. Have you had a chance to try the 650L .

Here in the US the Triumph is recognized as a complete turd. The KTM is decent but you have to use the rpm’s to make power. The Cabalerro is considered a disposable bike that you ride for 20K and throw away.

Have you ridden the Fantic ? I’ve owned the standard Cab for the last 3 years - most fun bike I’ve ever owned, an absolute fire cracker and I’ve owned a lot of bikes. Note ‘the most fun’ not ‘the best bike’. Theres a reason why MCN Neevsy raves about them and it’s really difficult to explain that attraction until you’ve ridden one a few hours. Solid is saying the same thing, it’s a bike for a certain kind of rider, it’s not an engineers, nor an accountants bike, it isn’t the result of consumer research, or focus groups, it’s just wacky.
