KTM 390 Duke vs. BMW G310R vs. Ducati Scrambler Sixty2 Part 1

KTM ,BMW and Ducati make some iconic large engine-capacity bikes but they also make some pretty funky small bikes as well.You'll be familiar with the KTM 390 Duke, upgraded for 2017, and the Ducati Scrambler Sixty2, but can the new 'baby' BMW G310R play in the same ball park? We line them up against a wall and take pot shots at each other's choice.

If you want to learn something, then read any of the hundreds of road tests online. We do plenty of sensible road tests and, with this one, we were just trying to have a bit of fun.

The Bike Show, so if you were a absolute beginner, and have to decide what will be your first bike, dont watching the price tags, dont watching the brand name. What would it be, I really like the sixty2 but on other side i really like the duke and the new bmw gs310 and really cant decide, i would use it for city trafiking with bad roads full of holes, and weekend rides (max 150km). Can you please give me any good advice ?

The BMW G310r and KTM Duke 390 are both Made in India. TVS Motor manufactures the BMW G310r and Bajaj Auto manufactures the KTM Duke 390.

OK, I just have to chime in here, a year after this posted. We own both the 2016 Sixty2 and the KTM Duke 390. Having ridden both of them for the last 12 months, I just have to say that the Ducati eats the KTM alive. Yeah, I get that everyone raves about the Duke, but it's really not comparable to the Ducati. Not even close. Power, comfort, fun, and just about any other measure goes to the Scrambler (unless you're a teenager, in which case the style of the KTM will win out). You can now find them used in the 5-6k range and if you want a bike for more than a year - which is about all you'll get out of the Duke before its size drives you nuts - go Ducati. That BMW, which we've test ridden, is so underpowered you might as well save some REAL money and get a Honda Rebel 250 if you want a starter bike on the cheap.

Ive had over a dozen bikes, from 100cc to 1200cc, including BMW, Ducati, Buell, Yamaha FZ1, Triumph, etc. I just got a 390 Duke and it's at least as fun as anything else I've ridden.

They keep calling these bikes “beginners “ in every video I see but what I notice is it’s mostly experienced riders riding them. I hate the concept of beginner because unless you’re just a very slow learner, how long you gonna be a beginner? Seems to me inside a month you should have surpassed beginner. So what you buy one of these and in a month you’re ready for a new bike? Not Bloody Likely! I’m a 45+ year rider and I’m getting one for stunting.

I've always thought of Donovan as more ewok than wookee... 🤣 had to cringe at the cellphone test though, I'm that boring guy that's had the same galaxy note 4 since release and has never dropped it. BTW, ever done a Bluetooth bike headset comparison? There are some really decent ones out there, granted we do tend to get the short stick over here in 🇿🇦, try finding any SENA products retail🙈 everyone wants to sell you 8 years ago's obsolete Scala or Bikephone. Just personal opinion here, but I think real punishment, like 3 or 4 lashes, is about right for anyone who plays with their phone while driving. Second offense, you don't want to know.
