i have the 790 adventure here in the netherland you have to pay a 9% (bpm) tax on the bike and then 21% sales tax over the total amount. and yes i had problems with te feul gauge. and no oil leak's yet i hope. for the rest it's a great bike

Of course not. Less wind protection than T7, 5K€ more than T7 and marginally heavier. It has 20Hp more, probably better suspension, but not worth 5K€. I don't care about electronics so it's irrelevant.

I will wait until 2021 or so before I get one Besides I will have my 2019 690 Enduro R paid off by then then. I usual go by the rule of Never ever buy a first or second or sometimes third year production model EVER. . I'm used to waiting hell I kept my 2001 640 enduro from 2001 to last year I can wait a few until the 790 Adventure R has all the bugs worked out. This bike has had my attention for a long time. With the type of riding we have here in canada I think it will be awesome. Longer range than the 690 but hevier, but not as heavy as the 1090 and more agile than the 1090. ti will be an absolute Weapon for some of the old mining loging roads and trails out here

Want a bullet proof (after a few cheap preventative fixes) middle weight ADV bike? Buy a DR650, spend a bit of cash on the suspension, header and pipe upgrade, carb rejet along with the usual adventure bike mods and you've got yourself a T-34 tank

Issue is "Normal" if its a "branded" bike. But if it was a chinese bike, its "junk" even if it is well made. This shows how branding and perception differs on people. Remove the brand name and all, then judge the bike for what it is and the price your paying. For a premium bike, this should not happen. Oil leak? Clogged fuel filter? Again it should not be there in just a few mileage of use.

Well I've had two 990 Adventures and two 1190 Rs. All from new. My first 990 did 56,000 mies in 18 months with no issues at all. Not one single problem with the others. I also have a 690 Enduro R with all the Rally Raid bits on it. This had to have a new clutch after I severely abused it in the Icelandic rivers. I now have the 790 Adventure. Coolant leak from the the thermostat hose and I just tightened it up. The other issue is misting of the TFT display which is common. A new display is due out in March. This doesn't detract from the bike one iota - love it.
@dexio85
@dexio85 5 жыл бұрын
I don't find it surprising. It's always something with the new KTMs. 790 Adventure R will be my third bike from them and I anticipate small problems for the first 1000-2000km and then it usually settles. It was the same with my previous Duke 990 (ignition switch, spark cable, fueling issues) and Super Duke 1290 GT (break pump cylinder, mushy clutch, locks in the panniers getting stuck, tire pressure sensor breaking, LCD screen getting dead pixels) I got all of that fixed in 2-3 weeks after reporting. For me the key is to have a friendly relation with the dealer, call it in, get if fix and don't bitch about it to much. These days stuff is getting produced faster and faster, the pressure from marketing and finance departments, shareholders etc is increasing in every company around the world. We just had planes falling from the sky and killing people because of lousy software design and lack of alert lights in cockpit that were "an option payed extra" FFS. Late stage capitalism at it's best :) I still like this bike though but would I take around the world? - NO. It's a performance/fun bike that it's great for 1-2 weeks of riding near "civilization" and/or support car, not a RTW adventure bike.

I love the idea of the 790 Adventure but I doubt I will ever own one. I respect KTM as a brand but it seems their polish hasn't kept up with their growth... I have owned 3 KTM adventures from new, but the quality control has dropped badly, if the 790 leaks oil and this is a problem carried over from the 790 Duke, what does that tell you about their desire to sell bike over quality control. Unacceptable to have an o ring leak oil on a new adventure bike. How fragile is the engine to do this? I wouldnt want to cross a desert on such an engine. As for the fuel tank!!!! the interior coating blocking the fuel filter??? What, clown allowed this material to be used in the tank? And the final straw, I accompanied a friend to pick up his brand new KTM 250, It wouldnt start, turned over well but wouldnt fire up... It worked in the showroom 30 minutes ago.... Back to KTM, they couldnt resolve it!! Bike back to factory and he had to wait for a replacement. Have NEVER had a vehicle unable to start from new,,,,, you have been warned folks.

I own a 790 Adventure (standard model), now with circa 1500 kms, and it has the fuel gauge issue, as yet unresolved. The bike rides every day, though. All I have to do is fill it up as soon as its tank reaches about a third of its capacity (20 liters). Waiting for the software update that will solve this issue. More than 80,000 km on my 1290SA. I replaced the dipper switch for high beam and topped up the clutch fluid once. That’s it. No oil leaks. No fuel gauge or pump/filter problems. Still running the original chain and sprocket as the electronic pro-oiler is fantastic. I’d buy a 790 Adventure R if my local dealer hadn’t already sold their entire two allocations.

Today I had the opportunity to ride the 790 Adventure and the R Version may be my next bike in two or three years. This time I'll wait for a revised model where all problems in the manufacturing process are solved. I was an early adopter of the 1190 ADV and it also had its flaws. Even in 2019 it is risky to buy a new product. My test-bike today had the fuel gauge problem. It showed an empty fuel tank but it wasn't. The test-ride itself was great, I had a lot of fun and it seems that the fuel consumption of this bike is excellent.

My 690 Duke is my third bike and the first bike i bought brand new, and also the bike I have had the most reliability problems with. Shitty clutch slave cylinder left me stranded on a ride, and now I’m dealing with a warped front brake rotor. Here’s the thing though: despite being the least reliable of of my bikes it is by far the most fun to ride and the one I have gotten the most joy out of owning. I have a 1290 Super Duke R built in Austria. I love the bike, but.. it seeps a little oil, the oil temperature sensor failed, for no apparent the plastic lens on the instruments has started to craze(cheap plastic), speaking of plastic...none of it really fits well, the front brakes have been recalled, the filtration function of the airbox is essentially useless as the flange between the upper and lower halves have gaps between the screws, the speedometer reads 10% high, I just discovered fretting on the rear wheel axle at the drive(left)side bearings with only 11,000 miles on the clock, when I accomplished the first valve clearance check all valves were out of spec, the price of parts($60) for spark plugs is outrageous... I could go on. KTMs are fabulous machines to ride but I think they take the ready to race motto a bit too far. Race bikes get major maintenance after every race, road bikes should go a while before anything is required. That being said, I still think I am going to look for a used 790 Adventure for a trip to Alaska. With the new 890 coming out I guess many riders will be rushing to trade their 790s in.

The employer only has to supply the amount of food to keep these folks alive. A good deal all around. The bike will cost 60% less to build. Very interested in purchasing one, but of course KTM messes that up as usual. Dealers in the US keep pushing back the date, because KTM doesn’t keep them informed. Then each dealer gets a very small amount of bikes, and claims they cannot order more for a long time. Now reports of all these little issues. I love my European bikes, but more and more hoops each year to purchase and live with them. Might start looking for a garage full of Japanese bikes again when it comes to new stuff.
