No, very specific targets. He's just not describing targets well. Soft tissue on the shoulder. Chest is a poor target. Go for the soft tissue above the clavical. Side of temple just to the back side of the eyes. Etc. Etc. Etc.

@LiL Speng It's not a great force multiplier in most situations. However, I do know male police officers that carry and use these as a control tool.
@Harlem55
@Harlem55 4 жыл бұрын
@LiL Speng Not quite- rather If I'm trying to handcuff someone and not wanting to rise to the level of pepper spray a couple good jabs in the ribs can be enough persuasion to keep from having to escalate force to pepper spray. (which hurts alot worse) Furthermore, in a knife fight, it's possible that a kubaton (skillfully used) can be used to implement a wrist lock vs. using a gun. This is because the full sized ASP baton will likely take too long to deploy- yet it's the same basic passive technique. Furthermore, it can be used to break a suspect's saddle mount on you as a last ditch.

these are incredibly effective. I have had a brain injury in the Navy, and I am extremely right handed (almost exclusive). I have a simple wood one, and this is exactly how I would use it. People do not think of this as even remotely as a weapon. A cop pointed out to them that someone armed and properly trained with one of these can take out a man twice his size, without batting an eyelash.

So do you think a person that has no self defense training or know how to fight with this key chain is going to use it effectively?
@bigkev78
@bigkev78 6 жыл бұрын
Two things I might have included: A. A philtrum strike. And B. Sometimes the kubotan is also a useful attacking tool when you are on your back, with an attacker trying to get you, I’ve found an effective worrying/annoying/distraction technique is to roll the kubotan like a rolling pin, very forcefully, across any area you can get to, but “rolling out” the face is most effective, too!😂😎👍🏻

I feel as though carrying this thing on a key chain just isn't the best idea because if you ever find yourself in a drawn out fight (meaning anything that exceeds a 10 second self defense situation), and you need to keep attacking, having a deathly flail of keys bashing into your hand and knuckles is pretty painful. I just tie a paracord lanyard where the key ring hole is and keep it in my back pocket. Therefore, it's ready to go at a moments notice and I won't have my keys flailing around smashing into my knuckles in a painful manner. There are times where you won't have enough time to get your keys out and ready to fight; especially if, you carry your keys in a purse or on a carabiner like myself. Having it in hand while walking to your car in the dark is one thing, but being able to just draw it out at any time within a second or two is much better. Then again, I am a guy, and there aren't as many situations where I need to use my kuboton. Plus, the lanyard method works much better if you actually have pockets, so not all women can implement it. Regardless, is not better to be able to use this tool without the potentially self-destructive trail of keys?

@BlueinanotherLanguage
@BlueinanotherLanguage 8 жыл бұрын
I beg to differ. Keys flail all over the place, this a spiked blunt force object. It's a completely different beast, hence the concentrated point. And what's so funny? Not every self-defense situation allows you to quickly harm your assailant and buy enough time to get away. I'm talking about moments that can escalate into fights. And Can you stop being pretentious and actually put some thought into your responses? It would be greatly appreciated.
@redpunk
@redpunk 8 жыл бұрын
ShantWrites And how many times have you successfully deployed your kubotan in self defense and actually used it? Grasping it while you howl tough guy words at somebody doesn't count. Plus, who do you think that the cops are going to be pointing their guns at if you do manage to successfully break somebody with that thing? I can just imagine the eyewitness accounts... "Well gee officer, it looks like those two guys were having a disagreement, that one guy took a swing at the other guy and then the other guy started to hit him with this metal spike thing. Oh sure I can give a description..." Then it's going to be up-against-the-wall-or-I'll-fucking-shoot-you-dead for you. It'll probably be justified too, since if you had enough time to pull out your little kubotan then you almost certainly had time to avoid that bullshit altogether. FYI, all fights are subject to the three second rule. If it takes longer than that to win then you've lost. You don't have the luxury of a controlled environment where the level of force has been negotiated beforehand. You're probably not going to be able to strike worth a goddammed when things get real.

+Gary Shaw Or they might be drunk and pushy. If somebody scares you and you pull out your little kubotan keychain, being careful to wield it with the proper grip that Mr. Yootoobman showed you then it's lost damned near all of its effectiveness as a weapon and if you're taken by surprise in any way then you're probably not going to have a lot of time to pull it out in between when you notice that you're in trouble and when things start to get fast and hurty. You're also probably going to have a lot of trouble trying to hit the other guy, since they're going to be moving around and you are not going to be calm nor have the luxury of thinking about things, and you're also probably not going to be able to put a hell of a lot of force behind your strikes. That's not going to be a good combination for you, especially if the other guy has prior experience with breaking people. In summation, it's basically useless unless you know what you're doing and pretty much have it in hand by the time that the violence commences. Thimk.

Briana Gonzales Yes, and I'm sure that the person at the head of the class had a pretty belt. There's plenty of expensive training offered by people with really impressive looking credentials that will get you seriously hurt or killed. If you pull out a weapon then you are ready to end somebody's life. It doesn't matter whether it's tapered rod of a keychain or a fancy handgun. Unless your attacker is incredibly stupid they will not even really give you a chance to whip out for neato little kubotan. Knife beats kubotan, bigger knife beats knife and gun beats bigger knife. Plus if you're wielding your kubotan _in anticipation_ of bad things then your attacker will almost immediately know everything that they need to know about you (how you're likely to strike, what level of training you might have, what sort of training you might have had and so on) and it'll make it that much easier to hurt you.

The keys are a great self defense weapon on the end of the kubaton which is why you should utilize them. These are great things if we have them in our hands when we are attacked. However, we don't always have the Kubotan in our hands on the street. If we are attacked and it is in one of the jacket pockets or in the bag, we cannot take it out. The best form of the Kubotan is the tactical pen that can be clipped to our shirt. It's easier to take out in this form. But not everyone wears a shirt. A belt-mounted Telescoping Stick (Keibo, Baton, Viper), a Karambit, or a Larger Knife (30cm) with a tactical sheath is much better. But the best is hand to hand combat.

I'm rarely ever serious on youtube, butI live in a rough part of town and I've often had a knife waved at me, but I don't want to end up in prison by carrying one myself. As someone who is not exactly the strongest punch thrower, the kubaton appeals to me as a non lethal defense. I have to ask, if you do go for the temple,roughly how much force does it take to just daze/knockout your attacker instead of killing them? Also how effective is the forehead strike for knocking them out? Seeing as the gangs round here operate usually in three or more, I'd like to at least knockout the nastiest of them first so I can at least convince the rest that I'm not to be messed with, or at least get less of a kicking what with one of them being on the floor.

Do not go for the neck or temple, hold the Kubotan point down like an icepick and slam it down with a hammerfist blow on ANYWHERE and the effects are brutal, best targets are muscles like the bicep, the collar bone muscles and especially the ribs. If you get hit in the ribs with a Kubotan you will be coughing from the raw pain of it, if you are comfortable in deflecting an arm strike well enough so you can "rake" the Kubotan after digging it into the bicep then do that to, they wont be using that arm for days. Practice generating power with figure of eight "rakes" and try to use your hipsto turn your body weight into every strike.

+Lord Funface The Atomic Toaster Thanks for the question. With any weapon there is a chance of seriously hurting or knocking someone out. When it comes to self defense if you feel your life is in danger you can defend yourself. We do not recommend striking in large muscles but instead in points that will do the most damage the quickest. A strong, fit & large man will not be hurt enough by getting struck in a large muscle for you to get away safely. Ribs, throat, neck, & face are all areas that will hurt more and give you more space to get to safety. Remember your best self defense is your legs, run if you can to avoid a situation. Thanks for watching!

@alanplechaty8097
@alanplechaty8097 8 жыл бұрын
+Lord Funface The Atomic Toaster Genital strikes can be effective if you make adequate contact. Keep in mind it may not always give the desired effect. Personally I do not recommend genital kicks instead focused strikes to target areas, including some demonstrated in this video. I am a big fan of the Kubaton but as Ninja School stated you need to have them ready. So I feel the best self defense weapon is preparedness and awareness. If you are in an area where you feel unsafe keep your keys in hand, and most importantly be aware of your surroundings, so you can avoid situations in the first place. If someone is following you or causing you to be alarmed try and get into a place with more people around, or if you are alone start shouting Fire. Fire gets people attention more than Help.

Getting hot with a kubaton F*CKING hurts! Because you are delivering a massive force into a very small point( about the size of your finger) You can hit someone basically anywhere. Just get the "pen" edition of this gadget on eBay AND practise the moves shown here so you can hit those points "blindly" even when feeling close to k.o. or state of shock. My own advice regarding the video would be to also use the other side of the "tactical pen" edition which has a glass breaker tip. By doing so (like going from collar bone directly to jaw line in one move) you can strike even faster than shown here.

Every single hit is something you can do with your own two hands VERY effectively. The chances you will remember to grab this thing in an attack is slim to none. If you learn to throw the jabs effectively you are golden, that is, if your attacker doesn't have a gun. My dad was a boxer and taught me self defense when I was 5, if I could do it then, anyone can. His main hit was the palm of the hand upwards to the nose. His motto,they can't hurt you if they are busy picking their skull up off the round. No tools needed.

If 3 friends came around a corner that little stick wouldn't do a thing to help you no matter how many jabs you do because life isn't a movie. I didn't say my dad learned a palm strike boxing just that he taught me to do a palm hit, it was a move he taught in self defense to quickly immobilize someone. My dad was trained in many things but he was a professional BOXER for many years. The "pick up their skull" comment was a joke. The fact of the matter is that the video is informative but you don't need a weapon you are going to forget you have (and in the adrenaline rush of being attacked you WILL forget, been there done that) to do any of the moves. If you don't learn to use your hands then you are defenseless!

If it is attached to your keys, like he has it, you get used to it being in your hands. Just because you wouldn't use it, doesn't mean it is not a great tool.

Having been attacked before I also know what I am talking about and I know for a fact that most people will forget all about the weapon, finding themselves in a fight or die mode. It will be hands they use. My point is, it is a waste of money if you know how to use basic self defense and basic self defense is what you will most likely be using, no matter how many nifty little gadgets. I know people from my self defense classes that had stun guns, mace,weapons and never got around to even thinking about then. Wouldn't it be great to know what you are doing to AVOID getting hurt. Seeing as you have been teaching martial arts for 30 years you should know that if you have proper defense training an injury shouldn't be that much of an issue. You can usually find a basic self defense class for free at your local community center or even the Y.

Jennifer Lynn Bostick I somewhat agree with your premise. Having a weapon in your possession will not guarantee success in a self defense situation, especially if a person can't access it. Still having a weapon and being AWARE to what's going on around you, it allows you time to access your weapon to either avoid the situation (ie: crossing the street, going in opposite direction, etc) or preparing yourself for action. I think anything that can be used as an weapon, whether you buy, pick up something in the street, or it's home-made, will help you a fight/self defense situation.

***** This little stick isn't gonna do shit when you are being attacked by 2 or 3 people. I don't care if its a ju jitsu weapon or if ninjas used it. It's funny how over excited people get when they find out something is a martial arts weapon because it means it has to be the best thing ever right? I'm sorry but if someone comes up to you with a bat or a knife or is just a good fighter this little pen isn't gonna do shit.

no you wont, i'm fed up of this bullshit, who thinks they can land a temple shot deliberately its not easy, hit what you can and keep boxing, aim for bone, at the end of the day its all well and good but when the adrenaline is going you dont feel shit so all your fancy tricks simply dont work

So normally the attacker would be somebody who is quite unpleasant and want to hurt you and with arms, unless you are highly trained in using this thing or you don't mind a punch up yourself i think you are going to struggle with this weapon. A good boot between the legs and poke in eyes would be a better way of defence. Then leg it!

You are correct. Some people mistake the spelling because it's like a mini baton, hence Kubaton, however, the designer of this keychain/weapon was Tak Kubota, hence Kubotan.

I took a self defense class through our county sheriff's department and they told us to put a bunch of OLD keys on there because #1 if your attacker takes it from you or it gets lost in the fight you don't lose your keys and #2 and most importantly, you use the keys to strike across the face! I can tell you that in my training when we did this, striking an old liquid laundry soap jug, it left huge gashes! I wouldn't wanna be on the receiving end of THAT! OUCH!
