Eva has a successful ,intelligent, personality and will do well at whatever she decides to do and would be better off waiting to choose a career and train specifically for that after she finds her passion. My son always liked cars and decided to be a mechanic, after trade school has been a sucessful well paid certified mechanic. My oldest son is career military and has excelled at it, ahead of the curve ,he is in command of a unit of more than 100 men because it is his passion and has been there done that all over the world in 14 years. Thank a vet today for their sacrifice,, God bless you all!

For many the idea of going out to college is about leaving the family and meet new people and learn new ideas out of the comfort zone of home, to built yourself. What parents want and what a young adult needs are two different issues. Some thing are easier to do when you are younger and when you don’t have responsibilities. I am not worried about Eva, because she is smart and she will learn (earned) her way thru life by living one day at a time.

I am a medical doctor and have gone to school for longer than I care to admit. After 12+ years in training, I have met lots of people along the way at various stages of education. In my humble opinion, the people that seem to benefit most from college are those with a clear "end" in sight and see college as a means to that end. Those that seem to rack up a lot of debt with very little to show for it are those that feel college is the default path without a career waiting on the other side that 1) requires that college degree and 2) supplies a reasonable income to offset the cost of education and still provide job satisfaction. Just my two cents. Thanks as always for the great content! Cheers from MN!

My niece completed tons of AP courses in high school. Wasn't sure what was in her future. Went to the local community college (HACC) for a year. Got her associate degree and found out about a law program. Enrolled in California University, PA, nearly completing her third and forth year in her second year of college. The program she found through HACC allowed her to complete her senior year at Widened School of Law in Harrisburg. So her first year of law school was actually her third full year college. She earned her law degree in 5 years and passed the bar at 23. HACC made this possible. The state schools participating in the program were eager to help with tuition and Widened gave her a 90 percent ride because she was bright and part of the community and state college initiative. I always looked down on community colleges until I saw the opportunity they gave her. Don't be afraid the challenge yourself at a community school. They have more to offer than most people know. Final though...my niece graduated law school with 12,000 in debt. She paid her own way, minus a car and paid off her loans in six months!

I loved wearing the same shirt so much my wife bought me enough to wear one every day, so I agree with Mike, mine were blue. My wife grew up in town, I grew up on a family farm in Northern Minnesota doing farming, logging and every thing related to it. My first wife and I moved to Washington state in 1981, in 1987 my wife passed away from cancer. I met Carol after that we were married in 1993, I already had the house and land where we live, to my surprise she wanted chickens. I had to build a chicken coop and a chicken yard, we have had chickens ever since then. I think concerning Eva and her desire to have farm animals is a great idea, when young people learn to care for animals I believe grow up to be more caring people. My wife and I really enjoy your program, I can't wait to see the new sawmill. Blessings to you and your family.

Boy howdy, this video brought a lot of smiles! The corners are staked for the new sawmill shed, another new Kubota, Eva's acceptance to any college on planet Earth and Melissa looked so pretty today, her hair was so light, straight and blowing in the wind, new shoes and always that gorgeous smile! Heck, I don't care if your video's are not in order as long as their posted and I can see them! The Morgan's have been a part of my daily life for many years now, and I'm always watching older videos too so I really don't feel much sense of order, as ling as I get to see you guys I'm fine! Mike I totally agree w you, if you like it and it works for you, go for it! Eva wanting animals, Leon, the ram at WWOG in West Virginia, is a perfect example for her. He's just like their dog, when they're out, he always comes to them for some love and before they were fenced in, he was really under their feet all the time! So yeah, y'all have room, get her some animals to love on, makes life a little sweeter. Thank you guys, love you all!👍🚜❤🇺🇸🇺🇸

I think the smartest thing to do it wait a few years, enjoy spending time with your parents, and pick up a few hours each semester at a local community college. I went to college right after high school back in 2003 and my mind nor heart was into it. After a 10 year career as a professional firefighter ended for me in a medical retirement, I’m a stay at home dad of three boys who is working toward a premed biology degree. I have found college to be much easier at 37 than it was at 18. Eva, you have a golden opportunity and can benefit so much from what your parents have in place for you. Have some fun, enjoy life, and be happy! My three year old and I watch every video and he loves to help with firewood. He already wants to start a firewood business and I will definitely help all of the boys with it in the future. Best wishes, Billy in Lexington SC

Good Morning Mike, Melissa, Hunter and Eva and the rest of the crew too. You picked the perfect Replacement Tractor Mike, and it fits you folks beautifully. The "JUST WHAT I WANT AND NEED " thing. Glad you and Kubota are still in partnership, may it be another till death do you part hookup. I think Eva would make a great Farm and Ranch Lady if she learns to keep the farm animals outside in a protected area and homelike barn!! She will do well at whatever her choice is and with your assistance and a little guidance she'll do well. They have Colleges with Farm and Ranch Schooling if she insists on going to college . Stay safe keep up the fine videos and have fun along the way. We miss Levi ??

My wife’s 3 kids…a son is a doctor (lots of college & fellowships), another son is a commercial diver (no college, dive school 9 months), and her daughter is an accountant. All different & found their passion, love for their profession & skills. Guidance is the best & Eva will be a smart decision maker. Life had to happen for the doctor (college, mission, great examples as mission presidents & still took time to decide his specialty as a doctor) to find his passion & he ran with it, diver listened to advice & then researched diving, drove to Louisiana (from Washington) at 19 & has dove for 19 years. Eva can do anything & know she will find her passion & get paid for it. She can be a KZbinr like her parents!!! Exciting years ahead!

Hi daughter Eva, follow your dreams!!! One of my biggest regrets was not listening to my mom and dad. They both supported me 100 percent and gave me good advice, but I wanted to be different. Different strokes for different folks. If a kid ( or adult ) can make college work to their advantage instead of chasing tail and "partying" all the time, then it could be an asset, and I think it also still puts many people at a higher starting salary in the corporate world, if they choose to go that route.

Our oldest son is a senior at the Air Force Academy and will be heading to pilot training upon graduation. While he will graduate with a degree in aerospace engineering, he chose this route because of his passion to fly. Our 17yr old son, who BTW has a crush on Eva and is so much like her, wants to fly as well but will probably go the private flight school path. As a parent, I've always challenged my kids to pursue what makes them happy. College, trade school or entrepreneurial route, life is short so go do what you enjoy.

So changed everything, did Psychology at Uni came out with a high score and then did a counselling. What does he do now, works in an office as a national manager and really enjoys it. Kids you can only show them things, they will eventually take there own course.

We couldn't agree with you more for several reasons. As my wife just said not everyone is college material, unless you really know what you want to do it is hard to apply yourself and due to the feds getting involved in student loans the cost of college has skyrocketed. If one applies themselves at a trade it is possible to do better than many people that have a college degree. A good trades person will seldom have a problem finding work. In some of the trades people make six figures after they have been working for several years. The most important thing is to try to do what you like/love to do. Love that you are as supportive as you are with all of your kids. You are Great people, parents and teachers/entertainers. Thank you!

Business courses on accounting, finance, marketing, computer applications are a great complement to an entrepreneur to take while running a small scale business. My business school colleagues that were running businesses during our undergrad courses by far got the most out of the time there. If I were to do it again, I would get a business started, and then take business classes where I had something to apply what I was learning. Even the concepts are more accessible when you can relate it to an experience you're living in.

I agree with you. Unless your going to be a Dr,lawyer, teacher, engineer, dentist, etc... get into a trade, I got into repairing things at a young age, went to diesel tech school and was a Bus/ truck mechanic for over 43+ years and made a nice living retiring at age 62. My youngest son followed my path and is making an excellent living doing the same thing on heavy equipment. Our other son is a college graduate and is a sound engineer, also doing well. Well the bottom dropped out here in southern Minnesota as far as weather goes, almost 70 on Wednesday, 19 degrees F this morning with a high predicted to not get above 25 F for the next week or so. Needless to say, I fired up the wood boiler yesterday. I’ll be feeding that thing twice a day for the next 5 months. Love the new Kubota’s !

I hate to be the contrarian to all the folks who are stating you need to know why you're going to college before you leave home. College is an experience that expands one's mind to possibilities and sometimes leads you down paths you never thought you'd explore. Yes, if you're going to college to waste money and your time by participating in the "after class" experiences, it is better to stay at home. But for an intelligent young lady, there are endless opportunities for Eva to experience. In college I had opportunities to try different careers through my class' extra opportunities. Also subjects like philosophy, which I thought was the greatest waste of time, turned out to be eye opening and helped me to understand why I and others think like they do. I could go on for many reasons why college is a great opportunity, but after my experience, and watching how my three children bloomed in college and came out with great backgrounds that led them to jobs where they have all done way better than their old man, I think it is a great opportunity. (Plus, remember Eva, you're the youngest and it is hard to let go!)

I am troubled by the amount of KZbinrs that advocate against higher education. Perusing a professional career is not for everyone but if your parents are guiding you away from college then it is unlikely you will go that route. Plain and simply, higher education opens more doors and offers more opportunity. What is a few extra years learning and expanding your horizons when someone is so young and at the start of their working life? I went the higher education route and had an immensely satisfying and challenging career. My son had no idea what he wanted to do in life (who really does at age 18), but we advocated higher education. After a couple of years of general study he found his passion in electrical engineering and has never looked back. Our children are our future why would we not want them to be armed with as much knowledge as possible whether they use it or not?

Hello Morgan family, my name is Ethan and I’m just over 20 now. I graduated high school early and started college immediately, mostly to fulfill my parents wants. After a year I was certain that college wasn’t for me and I was running two (really) small businesses along with working for my parents business. I decided to start taking business classes that would hopefully apply to my current situation, but I still was unhappy and felt that I was not learning much that I wouldn’t have learned otherwise. Learning business accounting has been a huge help, but aside from that I didn’t take much away from school. I would say that any hard working individual can accomplish their goals without the need for college unless you are considering the medial field. Many of my friends share a similar story of leaving college however they have entered into a trade of one kind or another. It truly makes me happy to see parents encouraging their children to consider options aside from college. There is so much that you can accomplish without it and throughout high school the only message you hear is that you need college to be successful in life!

Maybe Eva can open a CrossFit gym, they seem to be popular. Love the bandsaw, would love to have one. There is something satisfying about sawing wood. My dad who is now 98 (happy Veterans Day Dad) loved cutting firewood and wood in general. Growing up in SE Ohio in the 70s we cut many mine props for the coal mines. Then we cut locust trees for cribbing roads. Dad cut, I would pull them out with either tractor or small dozer we eventually bought. Dads built his house with wood cut and milled on his farm. It’s all hardwood built.

Excellent Eva! Great closing. Wish you waited another 15 minutes or more, I feel like I just hit “play”. Eva don’t feel bad not knowing what to do yet. I’m 60 years old fixing to be 61 very very soon. Just found out what I want…I want to be “Mike Morgan”, he does everything I want to do. He is a very smart fellow, has the best life of anyone, he has one funny problem though , when Melissa scares him. Hahahaha . When my wife scares me , I instinctively scream out a certain word , and my wife wants o wash my mouth out with soap. I guess I name my company “Mike Morgan Inc.” ( just kidding on name of the company name) but everyone would know that you really enjoy what your doing in life! Maybe y’all could make it a franchise.

My wife and I are in a similar situation with our oldest son. We're trying to give him an alternative to college and so we're going down the path of woodworking. We'll be getting a CNC router soon and elieve it can create a decent income for him and might add a laser engraver to the mix too. The cost of college these days coupled with the ideologies that companies force on employees has really changed my mind on what leads to good future for my kids.

Mike and Melissa. I work for a large online university and I would agree with you about Eva‘s future. Unless you’re going into some professional career that requires you to go to a separate school like law, school or architecture or medicine or whatever then life experiences will get her further faster in life. If she wants to get a degree in 10 or 15 years, then that would be something that is up to her at the time. I love the new tractor you’re going to have a blast, and we’re going to have a blast watching you.

I’ve worked for a University for almost 25 years; and I’m in agreement with what you’re saying. Early in my career I’d take 4-H youth to different campus events and one of the best pieces of advice came from George Good, the manager of the sheep research center/farm. He would tell all of those young folks to graduate from high school and go straight to work for two years. Then if you decide to go to college; they’d be a little more mature and more sure of what they’d like to do.

That's funny you mention the MX seat. When I was buying my tractor in Spring 2021 I looked at the MX6000, and while it sounds ridiculous the last thing that pushed me up to the larger M7060, is the seat in the MX just felt sort of "cheap" and a bit uncomfortable compared to the deluxe seats in the M7060. In hindsight I'm very happy I have the larger size (and I don't regret not having hydrostatic at all), but if you don't need the power of a 9,000 pound/75hp utility tractor the MX series seems like the perfect balance of still able to do real work in a manageable, compact size (and more affordable price point).

College is not what it use to be. My daughter went for 4 years at ODU, graduated with 2 Bachelors one in Psychology and one in Biology. Tried for another 4 years trying to get a job in one of those fields that would be a good fit for her, then when to Nursing School to become a RN, and she is really enjoying being a nurse on a ICU floor for heart patience. All that to say, be patient with yourself. I am not a true believer that a 4 year degree will make you HAPPY. It can make your MONEY, but HAPPY takes a deeper look. Good luck in your decisions. God Bless. Enjoy your Senior Year in HS.

I agree with your perspective on college 100%. My youngest is 18 and we've had the same conversation. He is currently the manager for a Sketchers store. My oldest did not go to college, started working part time at a bank after high school, and 10 years later has a senior level position at the bank. One of the middle kids is a Music Ed teacher. He had to go to college to do that and unfortunately has a great deal of debt now.

College helps one to be a more rounded individual. The social aspect of college gives one options by letting one see what else is out there. I know how you feel about wanting to keep her around but she should feel free to make the decision whether to come or go out on her own. First time commenter. If college is the only way or the best way to get qualified to do what you want to do, then go to college. Education is never wasted, but you can waste money getting an education if it doesn't help you to achieve what you want to do. If you have the money to waste, that's fine, but most people don't. Going to college to find yourself or figure out what you want to do is a good way to spend a lot of money and get little in return. Nothing says you have to go to college right out of high school either. Best of luck to Eva and all the Morgans!

So glad to hear you talking about the alternatives to college. Not everyone needs to go to college. How many unemployed college grads have you met in the last several years? And unless, as you said, you're going to be a doc., lawyer, engineer, etc, the return on your investment is pretty skimpy. When you have that degree, you are channeled into finding employment in the field of your education which really cuts down on choice of where you locate for the next umpteen years. My grandson didn't want to go to college, and my son and daughter-in-law thought that was terrible. My advice was to take a few community college courses while he was choosing a vocation. Now, he is a fire fighter, first responder, and we couldn't be prouder. Go EVA! Find what you like and pursue it with all that drive and motivation you have. BA or BS degrees don't satisfy as much as doing what you love. Oh, and by the way, MRS degrees often get pushed aside in the pursuit of the other two. Love you guys like family. Isn't it strange that I can care so much about what Eva does as much as my own grandchildren. Ya'll have a great day.

My recommendation, if she has her heart set on college, take a Business/Marketing major. and maybe even get her MBA afterward. She will be able to write her own ticket. That degree sets you up to do anything. My daughter just graduated from the Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University Cum Laude this past Spring, and she's already working and making a good salary. You can do Product Marketing Manager, Advertising, Product Management, Digital Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Marketing Analyst and Content Marketer (copywriter).

I have ten children I had a view attend brick and mortar schools, several do online and a view in the trades if she is a self motivated she certainly is a candidate for online schools she can focus on things she wants to and continue to work at home. I have two that have online degrees in business batchelor and their masters. both worked while getting their degrees. I do believe in the end it should be her decision. I know she will do great at what ever she does because she has had such a great start from such great parents😊😊😊😊

As someone who taught in Further Education in in the UK for 35 years, you are 100% correct, Higher Education Qualifications don’t automatically get a person employment most employers are looking for work/life experience. Obviously, jobs in Health, Tech, Law etc. your daughter should follow your advice, she will be much happier and I’m sure thank you in the future. Joe.

Mike and Melissa totally agree with your comments about college. If the student has not decided on a specific career then it could be an expense without a return on the effort and time invested. Entering college "undeclared" or as a general liberal arts major provides no preparation towards any type of employment outside of a teaching career. Certain majors such as art and music may be very interesting and enjoyable but do not guarantee a post-graduate career. Majors in science, engineering, healthcare, business, finance (those with practical applications) give a significant return of investment. Look at Penn State at their list of agricultural majors is she is motivated towards continuing academics (and get to the creamery if you visit State College). I told my children that I would only pay for their education if they picked a practical major which resulted in an Accountant, Biotechnologist, and Intensive Care Nurse. Best of luck with Eva and I love your videos. Dr. Ken Rogers

I started working in a new car dealership when I was 12. By the time I graduated high school I was doing engine overhauls, valve grinds, and etc. Just because it seemed like college was the natural progression, I went to Purdue university and received a BS in mechanical engineering. One summer I worked third shift in a stamping plant. It was good money but not for me long term. After Purdue I worked for 3 different companys for 43 years total. All of those years I was salary so I gave away a lot of hours. All in all I have done ok but there was a lot of times I was not able to do what I wanted.

Great video’s … thanks! On the subject of college … all statistics indicate an increased lifetime income for college graduates … so, yes, it’s well worth it … however, best to commute from home for first two years to save money and … don’t go into debt ! I’m a Penn State grad, started and ran my own engineering firm for 40 years, … couldn’t have done it without college … HOWEVER … don’t get sucked into accumulating debt …. Plenty of colleges one can attend around Pittsburgh while living at home and saving money. Blessings to you and yours, JD

Just another career path you can consider Eva. The world is yours Eva you can do whatever you want.

I agree that college isn’t for everyone. I joined the Air Force on my 18th birthday. I was trained in fighter avionics, and it has led me to a path of so many opportunities. I retired from the military and now work for the Dept of Defense. I have heard folks say that the military should be required, but I disagree. If you have passion and ❤ for a career, pursue it. Too many young folks follow the path that their parents push them in. So many great technical fields to purse. Happy Veteran’s Day 🇺🇸🇺🇸

For Eva, I have a BA, MA and was working on the Ph.D. when sanity finally hit. If you're looking to do something with your life that specifically requires a degree or certification, then by all means, go for it. If you're still thinking about what you want to do with your life, take some time, explore what there is to do out there. You could get involved in an apprenticeship program, do some ride-alongs with local police, firefighters & paramedics. You might even think of doing what I did and joining the military (active or reserve) for a few years. Going the service route gives you a chance to learn some valuable life skills, discipline (which it seems you already have) and build up a war chest in case you decide you do want to go to college.
