Those udang kering from Sabah we called it bubuk. U can make cucur bubuk. Do it just like cucur bilis but change the bilis to bubuk. As for sambal my recipe is cili padi, bubuk, belacan all tumbuk with lesung and perah limau. Eat with ulam. If u want to make nasi goreng also can. Just add on onions masa tumbuk dengan lesung. No need lime.

oh my hahaha i got that Khairul Aming's Sambal Nyet on his FIRST sale. Was one of the lucky ones because he sold out thousands of jars within just a few minutes it actually became a huge discussion among Malaysian businessmen and economists. I'd say it's delicious, but because of its high price and small quantity, it probably would be more of a luxury food rather than to be kept as a food staple. On the other hand, that Sambal Che' Nor I believe is popular among "orang bujang". My mom gave me a jar of Sambal Che' Nor when she visited me in college, and I shared it with my housemates, ate it with "nasi bujang" 🤤

The brown ( honey ) pot is usually used to store asam jawa . Sold in packets... absolutely necessary for making curries. Kumaar...was funny 😃 calling it a Urn to store ashes. I must say..some of the things are new ( to me at least ). I would definitely keep a lookout for them ( to try out). Thanks and can't wait for the next vlog.

What my late grandmother did with dried shrimp or ikan bilis is to fry them, then pound with pestle and mortar with raw shallots, garlic and lime until it becomes a dry paste or slightly powdery, super simple and I used to just eat it with rice or on top of an omelette

Omg Rach high 5!!! I’ve stocked up so many hand wipes too from Malaysia. I can’t find it in Canada too. So I brought so many. For gula melaka, next time get the Madam Yap gula melaka. It’s the best. You can get it from Jaya grocer or malacca itself. Sambal Nyet is a good buy. I also stocked up 6kgs of ikan bilis. Too bad we can’t bring in Serunding to Canada, otherwise that’s on my list. Yes definitely brought lots of Mcd chilli sauce and maggi chilli sauce. 😍 I also bought jelly strings, rose syrup which I made Bandung for my Canadian friends and they loved it. 💃💃 Bought Tau Sar phiah and kacang tumbuk from Penang trip for my Canadian friends. They loved it too. Koko jelly to share with kiddos. 🤣🤣🤣 Ohhh yeah and lots of Pandan Kaya and I made roti bakar for my Canadian mommas here, somehow they loved every Malaysian dish I made. 🫣🫣🫣. They are already planning for trip to Malaysia. Yayyy 🥰

Aiyahh! For those ikan bilis kopek / peeled anchovies (really nice when they're fried really crispy) and ikan keropok / dried preserved fishes sliced in 1/2 really thin so it becomes crispy when fried (can't remember the name of the fish), you can find them in the Peninsula. As for Sambal Garing Che' Nor, what you got there is the standard variety. There's the extra spicy variety and there's also one with crunchy cubes of fried tempeh in the dried sambal. I usually buy the extra spicy and the sambal tempeh variants by the boxes straight from the distributor. Heh heh. Anyway, whichever one you prefer, they really go nicely with hot rice porridge + all the usual condiments of course like crispy fried anchovies, roasted peanuts, shredded lobak masin, soy sauce, kangkung belacan (stir-fried water spinach with shrimp paste), etc. Or just some freshly cooked rice, vege/chicken/beef tomyam, etc. will do nicely as well. I'm salivating already. Sorry guys... heh heh heh.

I used to bring (& recommend to friends): - fresh roti canai kosong (just the roti only, no sauce) to put straight into freezer - hokkien mee, the black sauce version (by doing it as a special order - cook without any meat or seafood, but be very generous with the lard oil), again for the freezer - my mum's special receipe chocolate cake - starionery eg pens, paper, etc Logan: do you drink the Malaysian 3-in-1 coffee, or just black?
