We don't actually just say "Selamat", we say "selamat (time of day)" like "Selamat pagi" which means "Good morning", "Selamat tengah hari", which translates to "Good Afternoon", and so on, pretty much like English people do. And Josh, nailed the pronunciation on the fish snack and "perisa assam laksa" was on point, but the e in "segera" is pronounced like in "per" and the a as in "car". (I'm a TESL student in Malaysia). Perisa already means flavour so Perisa Tom Yam Thai means Tom Yam Thai flavoured.

hi fellow malaysians, i found a great recipe to upgrade the mamee pedas giler tomyum. 1. cook the noodles then drain them 2. on a frying pan, put sesame oil and chopped garlic (1 clove) and chopped red onion (1 small ones), chili oil that they have in the pan ( if u cant eat spicy you should put 1/4 of the oil) 3.fry an egg together with the garlic and onion and instantly put the noodles in 4. put all the seasonings provided then stir fry them for 3 minutes in medium heat *Bonus fry a sunny side up with the yolk half cooked and place on top of the noodles.

“Perisa” doesn’t mean tasty. Just means flavour. “Shiok” (she-yok) means fun, definitely doesn’t have anything to do with something being tasty. Nobody ever says this in regards to how food tastes. “Sedap” means delicious or tasty. “Kecil” (ke-chill) means small.
@Eiensakura5 жыл бұрын
I do use it to describe food, esp if it is particular nice kind of spicy or sour.
@msl16895 жыл бұрын
Shiok doesn't specifically mean "fun" although you can use it like that. It's just an expression to describe how amazing something feels or in this case, taste.
@maiachew9025 жыл бұрын
Many use "shiok" to describe anything that's fun, interesting or simply, good. At least that's how I see it being used in Malaysia and Singapore.

I love Mamee Chef Tom Yum! Our 7/11's here used to sell that in the past years. I love to microwave or boil it on the stove top for like a minute so that the oils and the sauce mix together and the noodles soak it up a bit and it's creamier. Unfortunately, the branches near our home no longer sell those but I can still buy it online. I'm not from Malaysia by the way, I'm from the Philippines. Lots of love!

@@shazanamn5119 Maggi's actually a Swiss brand owned by Nestle(even though it's really big in Malaysia) so they might have it over there. I've seen Maggi sold in Australia. Though the Malaysian version definitely tastes different and there are local flavours. Mamee is an actual Malaysia brand.

Maggi is our most famous ramen. The new hype is maggi pedas giler. Mean maggi crazy hot. Thyre extremely hot. Not as hot as mammee ghost pepper. My fav is actually a different brand, ibumee fried noodle ramen. For snacks theres one malaysian snacks viral by a korean singer idk her name. She loves the super ring cheeze snack. I love it too its sooooooo cheezy like your mouth would feel sticky with cheeze as you eat it.
