The squatting cable row just killed me. Making everything way more challenging for your body and back for absolutely no reason. I guess this is where people at my gym get these wacky exercise ideas.
@nowayjose596 Жыл бұрын
That's definitely a common theme. I actually place part of the blame on the training montage in Rocky IV 😅 If you watch older body building videos with Ronnie Coleman, Lee Priest, etc you see similar ideas about training in 100+ degree non-air conditioned gyms bc harder = better a la Rocky, as if your maximum output isn't limited by the heat before you stroke out. At least in Rocky you can make the argument that the extreme conditions prepared him for the extreme conditions of a fight, but in general anything that limits your maximum force output of the targeted muscles (instability, extreme temperatures, non-targeted muscle fatigue, etc) is going to be to the detriment of hypertrophy and strength gains. Let's be honest here: Ivan Drago was the one taking the superior approach of working hard AND smart 😉

As a wrestler and someone who does MMA, the zercher squat is very good for combat sports, especially grappling ones, as you need to produce strength from that exact position in grappling for many different things, and it teaches you to combine the force of your back and arms with your legs in that position. With that being said, if you aren’t a combat sports athlete or a strongman, there is no need for this exercise, there are much better ways to grow your legs, where your arms and back aren’t fatiguing at the same time or even before your legs.

It's almost like they try to find variations on tried and tested exercises just to prove that Hollywood trainers do things differently which is why they get great results.

I´ve been working out for a few years now, can´t believe all the gains I left on the table not having a power plate as part of my warm up. I can´t afford one, does it work if I stand on a bench and have my training partner shake it really fast?

The only reasons they have convoluted workouts is to run cover for steroid use and that they aren’t actually as strong as they pretend to be because all the exercises lend themselves to needing to use lower weight

I used an oscillating plate in nerve injury recovery at a neuroPT place called Bridging Bionics. The reason it worked for me is irrelevant to those who already have the neural pathways. But I got waist-down GBS, so the myelin was broken down and the nerves had begun receding. The oscillation helps send a lot of signals to say “hey we need to reconnect to these muscles” (same premise as exoskeleton use). They also use it with incomplete SCI patients and various other neurological conditions like CP. One was at the bottom of a table, so people could be supported while using it. It’s a little different than the one in the video tho… and the numbers are nothing like what they said. I think at most it went to 30 oscillations/second. That would be nuts to use regularly.. and you could see the person moving on it. We were usually around 20, but would go low to work on balance. That might work for normal people, but debatable if it’s better than a wobble cushion for them. It also helped mimicked the vibration in my sports tho, so it had direct crossover. Stretching on it was indeed magical, esp with how many spasms and cramps I was having. Regrowing nerves is painful and very crampy. They’re cool tools, but like with anything, you should learn how to use it properly.

I love how back in the 40's and 50's people thought they were exercising and losing weight by using one of those vibrating exercise belts that was hooked up to a machine that would basically just shake them. Here we are in 2023, literally 80 years later and this "power plate" thing basically does the same thing just differently. How are people still this naive 80 years later? But you hit the nail on the head. If trainers were just honest and kept it basic, they probably wouldn't sign many clients. So they come up with ridiculous workout routines that are more prone to injury than anything else. The most harmful part is that when people see Kumail's after photos, they'll want to do what he did. My old strength training coach used to tell me "there's two ways to get to California (I live in FL), we can fly or we can walk. He was referring to working out properly, resting, eating and sleeping properly, and listening to him.

You can totally do that without drugs.. I did it in 2016 when I was 41... took 5 months of committed gum work.. 1 hr 5 days a week.. basic dead lifts..overhead press.. back squats .. chinupd.. old fashioned basic lifting... Doing the same again now at 49... it's just hard work commitment and basic lifts... no bs workouts

for the squat rows @7:26, Kumail's version may be a little exaggerated, but I do like adding a slight squat or balancing act to some of my chest/back/arm workouts. As a boxer, I find that it trains my core to center and balance my weight even as I'm exploding (something key when you're throwing a moving combination, hitting a tennis ball, etc.) While it may not be ideal just for body shaping, would you say there can be some benefits to this for athletic/muscle connective purposes?
@passion-gin26755 ай бұрын
If i'm not mistaking for the rear delt raise, you can do it sat on a bench and you won't compensate with your other muscle because you would have more stability. Thus more focus on the rear delt itself.

Zurcher squats are fantastic to still work your legs coming back from and rehabbing a bulgey disc once you can lock in your back in a pain free manner going light and building up slowly.. you can’t round your back like you would in a back squat or front squat as you would fall down and you can still work your legs fairly safely
