As a Wing Chun Sifu, I appreciate this podcast. My Sifu always asked us if his mother ( a 90 year old Taiwanese woman ) could do this move. He punished us for "muscling" or trying to overpower and my WC improved because of it.

Great talk! I’m a disciple of Shifu Neil Ripski and am teaching now. In the interview he mentioned the importance of the traditional culture and poetry surrounding the traditional arts. I currently have a running series on my channel of nearly 40 videos now covering this exact topic. Taking a movement each episode and discussing its poetry and what it’s meant to teach us about the movement. I’ll leave the link to the playlist here in case anyone is interested in learning more about this topic. kzbin.info/aero/PLlLvXVslePcAfRdXqF6LpztDG1fL-_SRe&si=-xaNpg_KnSFdnAgs

Thank you! I'm a far away student, learning from Shifu Neil Ripski through various platforms and media, everything Shifu Ripski has shared has expanded and elevated my understanding and journey in martial arts. He's the real deal, I'm very lucky and very thankful for finding him and I hope to repay him and his lineage by hard work and diligent practice! 👊🍵

@@grendelhvs tThank you so much, Drendelhvs, for sharing your experience with Shifu Ripski. He is incredibly knowledgeable, and this was definitely my favorite episode. It was my first time meeting him, though I was already familiar with him through the book I mentioned in this episode.

Also, I highly recommend the book "Drunken Boxing: Breaking through into Advanced Practice" by Shifu Daniel Schultz. Gems of transformation in every chapter. Rule of Xu is a personal favorite.

I was wondering why this came up in my feed, and I see it's because of the association with the red jade guy in Illinois, the guy who deletes my comments on his videos when I ask details about his applications not being feasible. Let me try this here then: you guys talk and talk and talk about being so good at fighting, yet after so many years online, there is not one video of you guys sparring or using this kung fu against anyone who's not cooperating and weak. This is a very reasonable ask. Show some fighting, sparring or practical applications against a non-willing opponent, or you're just dancing (and talking, talking, talking). We're still waiting.

Hey man, I appreciate your engagement in the comments criticism is more than welcome here. In fact, I totally get where you're coming from. The sad reality is that traditional martial arts is flooded with fake masters, and I'd say at least 85% of practitioners have no real ability to apply their system in a real fight. But let's be real dismissing every traditional system outright is just ignorance. Unfortunately, in America, traditional arts have been watered down into jokes, thanks to commercialization and weak training methods. But that doesn't mean the arts themselves are useless. Now, let’s talk about Jiu-Jitsu for a second. Do I think rolling around on the ground, looking like you're having intercourse with a guy, is the ultimate way to fight? Hell no... On the street, where you’re dealing with multiple attackers, good luck pulling off an armbar while two other guys are stomping your head into the pavement. But that doesn't mean that BJJ does not work, Every art has its flaws, it’s just about knowing how and when to apply them. But hey, if you really want to prove your point, don’t just talk big from behind a keyboard like a 5 yr old, There are already too many people doing that,. Stand out. Make a difference. , go ahead and visit some schools and put your skills to the test. That’s the only way to separate real fighters from internet warriors. Check out this video-I think you’ll enjoy it. Have fun. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHa0ZICHe8plqrM
