Kurt Browning had a lucky break from the judges as some of them missed the mistake on his triple lutz. He took 3rd place in the technical program.

Definitely one of those times when you're glad we now have the technical experts looking at replays.

Agreed. I know the crowd didn't really give anything away (they were going to cheer for anything he did), but it's somewhat questionable that maybe 3 or 4 of the judges didn't notice the mistake, in the corner or not.

Those technical marks were either a gift or judges were blind. Boy did he luck out

I mean if as a judge you can’t spot the difference between a triple and a double jump😮. Like what are you even doing there? And shouldn’t the issue with the costume have been a deduction, too?

It should have been a deduction and really, if it was on the ice (it's not clear where it went but he threw it low to the ground), the referee should have stopped the performance and had it removed from the ice. It's hard to feel bad for Browning in this era (and SOOOO many people did) when certain judges consistently ignored his bad performances and awarded him leading marks. Canada swung big by giving him a nearly perfect required element mark but going lower on presentation. The US and UK were out to lunch too. 5.7 with a mandatory deduction for lack of rotation AND a costume issue?!? Unless this was premeditated, shades of 2002? This POS short was in the 5.2 territory. Creaky closing spin, a few other minor glitches... but you have to ACKNOWLEDGE THEM ALL. He should have been much further back in both these Championships and the Olympics a month prior. He sucked this year but everyone threw him a bone whenever they could get away with it. Portions of his career are a bit questionable.

It was the necklace-type thing that he started the program with. You can see him pull it over his head quickly.
