Knee on belly from someone 60 lbs heavier sucks. I know. This move has saved my butt several times since I saw it here. Thank you. You're a gut, rib, and life saver.

Professor, Relson teaches to use a sleeve grab on the near arm when going up into knee on belly rather than the hand in the collar like Jose is doing. I've looked at a few of your other knee on belly defense videos and none of them addresses Relson's knee on belly. Would you mind problem solving a defense against Relson's knee on belly? If I'm not mistaken, Rhalan is training with you these days, so he would be a great resource to work on what I'm trying to describe.

Hey Kurt, that is an interesting escape. What would you do if the cross face was very grinding to the point it is hard to turn in for the knee on belly? I think your first technique might be a better solution if I can get it from the start. However, it is a nitemare with one of the brown belts who can knee on belly and control it for the whole fight. Feel totally depleted from this move. The knee on belly is one of the hardest to deal with. Would really appreciate your advice.

Usually you're tought to place your one hand at the neck, one at the hip when defending side control... Wondering why Kurt prefers to place one hand as an underhook and one at the hip instead? Wondering if any oldschool grapplers could enlighten me.
@NateSecor8 жыл бұрын
+Eric Gagnon I'd say he wants that underhook to keep the possibility of scooting out and taking the back. Also, deep half guard. IMO.
@chriswagner13356 жыл бұрын
It's a variation off of a Ribeiro survival tactic. He's keeping his arm safe but with the option to underhook.

the problem i'm having with KoB is whenever i'm using my hands to grab pants/belt, i don't have any hands left to protect my neck, so my opponent just transitions to a collar choke of some variety. what's the solution to this, besides growing another pair of hands?

dude wheres the real escape hand under the shin an knee grab back of pants with free hand pushing on the front of the waist n rock n roll technique to top position im just a white belt from GB but it works on all levels if done right
@KenpoJuJitsu310 жыл бұрын
That escape is easily countered by simply crossfacing and stretching them out with a sprawl position. That counter breaks the belt/pants grip and results in your grabbing arm pinned under their shin leaving you with one arm to defend. That's one reason why that escape is generally not your first option unless the person has you in knee on belly but has bad posture or you've managed to secure a dominant grip on their belt side arm.
