"Take off your bras and burn 'em, or you can let Bo Burnham burn 'em." is still one of the best lines ever written xD

One of my favorite lines is right at the end when he says, "take off your bras and burn 'em or you can let Bo Bunham burn 'em." 😂 You did great on this one. Caught WAY more stuff than I did the first 10 times I heard it. Haha.

Most reactions that I’ve seen to this either float right on by the Jose stuff, are confused by it, or think it might be derogatory. Love that you caught the point

Everyone catches the point. That's why they 'float by' it. It's completely obvious.

I honestly think the hungry hungry hypocrite line is a dig at the starving artist stereotype mixed with the idea when an independent artist signs their first record deal they are called a hypocrite for "selling out"

The funny thing is that I think this might be the first song that we've seen Bo try to work any real social commentary into, however abrasive it was. This, plus the Weird Al level of "get out of the gene pool" literary lyriricism dickery, is what makes this my favorite of his early material.

That whole part at 4:42, I think you're missing the fact that he's spitting bars with dyslexia. Everything is mispronounced or turned around. Which is just after the YMCA line, which is a dyslexia joke

I'd say "new math", "A Love Ballad" , "3.14 apple pi" and "My whole Family" don't have deeper meanings. They're great/witty songs but they're pure comedy in Bo's ridiculous/offensive way. So check those out if you want to see him without deeper meanings.

Ahead of his time it there’s no way he’d be able to release a track like this with today’s ‘cancel culture’. Clearly none of what he’s saying on this is meant with malicious intent but cancel culture doesn’t seem to care- if you say something that’s considered ‘inappropriate’ you’re immediately cancelled 🙄 respect is important but cancel culture has just taken the whole thing way too far imo…

On of Bo’s inspirations was Tim Minchin. I’m new to the channel so not sure if you’ve heard of or reacted to Tim yet. If not, he has a similar style of musical comedy where he discusses funny things and sometimes he discusses social issues, too. But Bo uses the style differently. Like you said, mostly all of his songs end with a lesson or at least a different perspective, and he gets very personal and introspective with his work. Tim doesn’t so much bring his own struggles to his songs the way Bo does. So yea, no one does exactly what Bo’s doing (especially when it comes to things like Inside where he handled everything himself.) But I’d say Tim is the closest to it. Essentially Bo took Tim’s general comedy formula and evolved it into his own style.
