Hello, thx for the best PC4 video so far !

Thank you for doing these great videos! Much appreciated. I was able to download the file from the Mastering Vast Forum. It will definitely help reduce some K27 envy for now. But if a 'K2776' is made available eventually I will still likely switch.

The engine is 95% the same. The sound, too. You get bigger pianosamples (more like the Forte but not exactly) and the hardwareoptions. I´d change, too, but ONLY if Kurzweil will provide us with a waterfall or synth action keybed. Otherweise I have no reason to switch. I am a gigging keyboardplayer, and the extreme low weight of the PC4 is kind of genious for that. (Did I mention the keybed is not? 😀)

@@Kaffimusic are you able to describe how the PC4-7 action feels? I did have a PC4 but wasn't overly keen on the action and I wonder if the sprung loaded action in the PC4-7 is comparable to anything else say a Roland FA07 or Nord with the sprung loaded fatar action as found on the wave 2, electro 6d, stage 3 compact etc?

@@stuartdarling1620 Hi there. Well... before I say anything about it, I have to tell I am a synth or waterfall-keybed guy. I do not like and want pianokeys. The keys on the 4-7 are shaped like pianokeys. I do not like that. They also have sharp edges due to production. Those are no high quality keys, definitely not. They can not compete with what I know from Fatar. That is the synthkeybed that is often found in todays synth (like that very much) and the watefall-style in the Nord Stage 3. The last one is pretty hard to press, maybe to fake resistance for pianoplayers. However, I liked that and it´s way better than what is on a 4-7. So... how do I describe it more? The resistance is like that of a synth keybed, maybe a tiny bit harder, but the shape and travel (longer) does not fit to synth style. The keys are blocky (to me), especially the black ones (compared to synth or organ). Organglissandos are not smooth to do and I feel encumbered all the time when trying to play fast lines. Sometimes I keep hanging on sharp edges of keys when I span my fingers wide. I also have to mention that the triggerpoint of the tone is not at the bottom of the keytravel but somewhere high up, maybe at 20-30% of the way. Felt very strange at the beginning, but to that I somewhat adapted now. The aftertouch is insanely hard to press, even on lowest setting. But I found out there is a pot in hardware to set it. Did not try it yet, maybe I can make it softer there. I´d like to say, I believe this keybed will not make anyone happy - Pianoplayers for the missing feel of weight, synth or organplayers for the shape. However, I heard of people saying: "I got used to it". But no one said "I like it". I know I will never like it but try to live with it, because I want the soundengine and architecture of the PC4. I see the keybed as the most negative thing that prevents me from connecting to the instrument, like the PC3 did. But... people are different and as I said, I am a synth or organguy, that sees piano just as one sound among many.

I want to add... Obviously Kurzweil tried to keep production cost low for this isntrument, and - maybe planned for the future release of the K27 - to have a distance between both instruments, for the K27 has the better hardware. I bought the PC4-7 for something around 1750,-EUR in Germany, and this is still a good price for what you get. The PC4 is usually put into the same class like the cheap knock-off keyboards from other companies, like the MODX or the Nautilus. Although even cheaper compared to some models, the PC4 is still definitely better. Those models do not even have a keybed with aftertouch. I had a MODX 7 here for one evening. Damn, this felt cheaply made, and the sound was... plastic. So from this point of view I could be glad with the keybed they used. But I also would have payed 2-300,- more to get a good Fatar. Because the cheap one has to be paid, too. Maybe, when Kurzweil will bring a 7 model of the K27 with a synthstyle or preferably the same waterfall keybed as the Nord Stage 3, I will get that one. Just for the keybed.

friend could you tell me the keybed feeling?

Could you make a video where you dive into how one of the more 'analog' synth basses have been constructed? I am curious to see if I can get similar sound from my PC3K7.
@Kaffimusic2 жыл бұрын
Making a video takes a lot of time. I have little at the moment. But yes, you can do most of those sounds on a PC3. It is a mix of different techniques how they were made. Some simply use the DX engine, which means you can load one of the thousands of DX7 sounds in existence. Well, not possible on the PC3. Also, you do not have the stepsequencer that does some of those oscillating and pumping riffs. But everything else is. You have the VA engine and also sometimes ROM waveforms are used as the basic. FX enginge is the same, too. Are you a memebr of the Mastering Vast forum (Godlike) ? You find help there and maybe also templates to do that. I remember BTW... There is at least one template for analog osunds in the PC3. When you understand about anlog sounds, it´s not too difficult to get pretty close.
