Kyiv Volunteers Get Last-Minute Training On Powerful Anti-Tank Weapons

In the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, instructors are giving last-minute training to members of the 112th Territorial Defense Brigade as the Ukrainian military prepares to defend the city from Russian attack. Some of the trainees are new recruits with no previous military experience.
UPDATE: Although the trainer in the report states that the AT4 can destroy "anything," military experts say the Swedish shoulder-fired missile is considered mostly ineffective against the thick armor of main-battle tanks.

Appearances are highly deceiving. Don't you find it curious that every single report, is from the Ukraine gvt, the other side of the conflict has been completely silenced on Western media and what videos we do get, are a few seconds stitched together from 1 or 2 second clips showing only successes? Meanwhile they're throwing civilians at Russian troops and frantically begging for someone to start a world war to save Ukraine. Something doesn't add up.

The anti-tank weapon being shown at 2:10 is not a Swedish AT4 Pansarskott anti-tank weapon but a Carl Gustaf 84 mm PVV M/97 CS HP recoilless launcher (Dysekanon or PANSERVÆRNSVÅBEN) M/97 Confined Space High Penetration, from Denmark (Forsvarets Materieltjeneste) as it also says on the side, meaning that it's a Swedish made Danish version that can be launched from a confined space (building) with no heat-pressure damage to the person firing it, which otherwise would be the case when you fire an anti-tank weapon from inside a building. I did not know that Denmark had send any of them, because it has only been revealed so far, that Denmark have send 2,700 M72 LAW EC (Enhanced Capacity) anti tank weapons, and also 300 to 400 surface-to-air stinger missiles + launchers (newly upgraded in 2022).

Its armour-piercing warhead can destroy heavily protected MBTs in a single shot. The system is also extremely effective when the operator can only see a tiny portion of the target. The operator can simply aim at the visible part and fire. The missile will travel one metre above the line of sight before it takes the tank out from above. In DA mode, NLAW can be used against soft targets like trucks, buses, cars and helicopters. When fired directly through a window into a building, fragments will cause significant damage.

The Carl G’s, Javelins, Stingers, and more complicated stuff like that likes is being kept by the professional army. They require more knowledge and training to use safely and effectively. AT4’s and RPG’s are pretty much point and shoot. Honestly, if you have these recruits a Carl G, they would very likely injure themselves or others by not really understanding the backblast issue. I’m sure they are there, they just aren’t giving them to the regular guys walking in off the street.

Another reason we don't see many Javelins is that the unit price is more than 100 times that of the AT4. Haven't seen an actual figure of how many they've been given so far, but I'm guessing a few hundred while the AT4 are more around five to ten thousand units.

@@carlkolthoff5402 The number I keep seeing is 17000 'anti-tank' weapons. No info on the breakdown of what those 17000 weapons actually are. I'm guessing that the bulk of those are M-72's and AT4's, and maybe some RPG-7 rounds thrown in. There is actually a company in the US that makes RPG-7 style systems, but I don't think they have made anywhere near 17000 of them. @Erik S The Goose is not great for newbies, and maybe not the best option for a city fight. The good parts are that you can just slap iron sights on them to keep things simple, and the firing mechanism doesn't need batteries. However, they are typically fielded by a two-man team, which would be more difficult to coordinate with guys off the street. Even if you could, unless you are using the most modern low-blast munitions, firing one inside a building or too close to a building wall is very dangerous to the gunner. You need open space behind you for the massive back-blast to dissipate. If you fire one inside a room you are very likely to blow out your eardrums, concuss yourself, or worse. More than any of the other man-portable anti-tank weapons being given to Ukraine, this one can hurt things behind the gunner as well as in front of the gunner. It is a great weapon, but probably not a good idea for the untrained masses. The AT4's M-72's, and RPG-7's are probably the best to put in the hands of someone who probably isn't getting much more training than, "Point this end at the bag guy, then push this button."
