Oh yes the vehicle got shot up and two of them were hit by bullets but thankfully their vests protected them and one of them was only a slight nick of the skin whilst another managed to dodge being hit altogether. The vehicle was completely blown away by multiple bullets and they kept calling to the Russian insurgents that they were the press, but after a few seconds of stopping they would start firing again. They decided to make a run for it and managed to get to a local big garage where they waited it out with the staff there before they were rescued. Absolutely unbelievable footage and they were very brave throughout the whole thing for people who probably have never been in that position before in their lives and an experience that few press have ever or will ever experience to such a level like this

White told us he didn't trust any of his men who wouldn't FFE. Thinking that meant fire-for-effect I was corrected by my Lt. who told me it meant fuck, fight and eat. In his own way I suppose the Colonel had pretty much summed up the American fighting man.

When I was in the field artillery, I was in the FDC. Our biggest threat was special forces. The best way to stop artillery, is to take out the brains of it, hit the fire direction center and there won't be any fire missions being sent out.

@Martha Mryglod HI Martha, typically speaking, it wouldn't be all that far off from the gun line. You would want to look for comm equipment. Things like attenae and such. We used to have a set up called an OE254, and rode in a modified APC, ot was a dead giveaway. Basically, you look for the one vehicle that doesn't look like a cannon or artillery piece, and that is more than likely a good start. Also, alot of times the fire direction center is also the POC, or platoon operation center, so if you're lucky, you can get a two for one special, and a lot of the command structure tends to hang around that location.

When they advance through civilian areas firing at every house they cross it's a Russian tactic called "firing recon" (or something similar). It's literally a recon move where they just go house to house firing rounds at each one to try to flush out potential ambushes and does care in the slightest if they end up killing non-combatants in the process.

Back in WW2 times most soldiers didn't shoot to kill, they just fire their guns it was so massive problem that they had to change the way soldiers are trained. Shooting at human shape targets had to become automatic reflex to get the job done.

Dave Grossman wrote a book on this called "On Killing." His numbers were 15 to 20 percent firing rate in WW2, 55 percent in Korea, and 90 to 95 percent in Vietnam (all numbers for US forces). Grossman also has some numbers about the Civil War but nothing significant. His overall thesis is that US soldiers have become more likely to shoot over the years based on more realtisic training aids/scenarios which effectively dehumanize an enemy (and a way off in my opinion belief that video games and violent media are doing the same thing to children).
