I am so heartbroken for him. I have a Blackhawks autograph book from when I was a kid filled with players like Saad, Burish, Byfuglien, Hjalmarsson, etc, but I went to the training camp fest one year and got Kyle’s autograph. At the time (I was around 11 or 12), I didn’t think much of it besides him being a minor league player that was with the Hawks for preseason. When I was reading about the story and the case, and I couldn’t quite remember why I remembered his name, but then it hit me. It really breaks my heart knowing that when I got his autograph that the trauma was probably really eating at him at that time, and he didn’t have the help he deserved. He deserved so much better from the organization than this. I hope he’s gotten the help he’s needed and is thriving now. Thank you for speaking up Kyle

@@detox2778 not “if”…he could have. Look, what happened was disgusting and in no way is this Beach’s fault. With that said, the report makes it clear that Beach was concerned about his future playing in the NHL. My kid plays hockey and I’ve told him many times before this situation that if this type of thing ever happens it isn’t your fault and on your way to the police department to report it you let the team know. You can see from this report that the organization folks were only concerned about their careers and had no interest in putting Beach first. Again, had he gone to the cops this clown would have been wiped off the sports map and not gotten to USAH, UND, Miami and ultimately the High School in Michigan. Not trying to be a jerk. I can’t comprehend what Beach went thru and going to law enforcement would have put an end to it real quick. Then it’s taken out of the hands of the disgusting execs who swept it away. The sad thing for Beach is that he was a top prospect. Lots of stories after being out of NHL how he was a “bust.” I guess you always think that these big strong athletes (physically) are big and strong mentally. Goes to show you that is not necessarily the case. Stay strong Mr. Beach and hope you continue on your path to mental recovery and getting back your lost potential! It’s still in there.

The number of people complicit in this make me want to vomit. Players knew and kept quiet. They have no problem holding out for money, not showing up for training camp, refusing to play for a particular coach, but when it came to going to bat for a sexual assault victim they did nothing. In any case, Kyle's case isn't actually about Brad Aldrich, it's about the Blackhawks organization. I think it's pretty obvious that a criminal case directed at Aldrich 10 years after the fact would be impossible to win because there's no cell phone, security camera, etc. evidence remaining. No one involved in this should have a job in hockey. This type of story has happened too many times in hockey and likely other sports as well. The NHL knew this story before the report came out and they allowed these individuals to continue to be employed by the Blackhawks and the Panthers. The NHLPA head should resign if he was aware of this story and did nothing. It is going to be tough to continue watching the NHL as long as the current leadership stays in place.

Kyle Beach is a Hero! Things like this don't belong in any sport and can truly have negative effects on people's lives and careers. Just look at Theoren Fleury where a situation such as the one that happened to Kyle happened to him and it negatively effected his life and career in so many ways and unfortunately this incident took Kyle's dream of being an NHL player away from him and led him down a really dark path filled with suffering and trauma. I pray for you to heal Kyle and the entire hockey community has not only your back but the backs of all those who are silently suffering and have survived such traumatic experiences. Induct Kyle Beach into the HHOF at some point for his bravery and I believe it will be time to induct Theo Fleury as well who also suffered from the same experiences as well. It's time we vindicate these heros and survivor and the effects they will positively have on the game in the future.

Don't put it on the entire NHL. For example, a third line center on the Blue Jackets doesn't deserve to be cancelled. Anyone in power who knew and did nothing and anyone who knew and then ridiculed him deserve "cancellation". And they really need to make amends, not just offer apologies. There is nothing more hollow than an apology 10+ years after the fact that comes only after getting caught.

Wise Bear 1 second ago It seems obvious that there was some sort of abuse here but that is for the courts to decide legally and for the NHL to ajudicate, as to responsability for those who may have covered this up. I do wonder whether we are seeking justice here for all concerned, or is this a pretext for a large financial settlement. Aside from this the greater issue at hand is the culture in Hockey that sees sexaul loosenss and promiscuity as casaul, common place and almost a right of passage amongst players. When you mix alchohol with sexaul permissiveness, this is a brew which can only end in potential harm for developing young men and women. Not to mention an enviroment for predators and abusers to excel in. If Hockey doesn't begin to address this in a responsible and mature way in couselling their players as to healthly relationships and the use or abuse of alchohol, than this will continue to be the result. I worked closely to provide a Major Jr. Club in my town with a Chaplency. The young men who participated voluntarily in this ministry were helped wonderfully and supported in many ways that gave them direction in life and spiritaul support. Simply put, most Coaches and General managers are not equipped to help their players in these needy areas of personal moral character, emotional and spiritaul development. They are Hockey practitionares and it's unfair to expect they can be anymore than this. That being said they are responsible to protect their players and players need to learn to protect themselves. No matter how you slice it going half drunk to a hotel room with a girl you pick up from a Bar with another Coach was a very poor decision. As an Adult this young man needed to be empowered to make a better decision for himself and his future. Notwithstanding the abhorrent disgusting behaviour of the Video Coach.

Melissa: Thanks for your comment. You're objection is an interpolation of my comment. Nowhere did I ever blame the young man for Aldrich's actions that's you're predictable tired objection. I'm appealing to the Hockey world to care for their players in calling them to teach personal responsability. I have a son who played Hockey at a high level in both Prep School, Major Midget and the Jr. level. Because of his moral character and knowledge of compromising situations he was never vulnerable to this kind of abuse. If you play on a busy highway don't be surprised if you get run over by a speeding car, maybe even a drunk driver. Now Aldrich's actions if proven true are not Kyle Beach's fault. But if Beach had never gone to that hotel room less than sober (inhibitions and judgemnt lowered) engaging in "Strip Poker" none of this would have happened because Aldrich would never have had the opportunity. On this you can't disagree. Without personal responsability and moral character you'll continue to have Abusers like Aldrich and victims like Beach. The best way to protect victims is that they never become victims!! I have coached at a high level in the game and I know of what I speak concerning the culture that exists in the game. We took measures to protect our players and taught them to have high integrity. Time for change when it comes to personal responsability moral character and accountability for actions, or nothing will change. Teaching personal responsability with moral character and an intolerence for Abusers can be equally valued. This will create a better hockey culture and a better safer world!!

Why didn't Kyle call the Cops? If he was sexually assaulted it is a criminal matter. The Black Hawks Organization, NHLPA, and NHL are not responsible for dealing with criminal matters. First and foremost Kyle was responsible for reporting this matter to the Cops. He can try to lay blame on others but I don't buy it. He can cry all he wants to but will get no sympathy from me. He should have told the Cops first, period. If he had everything that followed would have turned out differently. The video guy would have been arrested and charged and maybe that high school kid would never have been assaulted. As a viewer of this interview I still don't know what happened that day that Kyle was assaulted. Viewers need the full story here to properly judge Kyle's actions and accusations against others. This is terrible reporting. What happened that day? Viewers need the full story to be able to judge. But this much I know, first and foremost, Kyle should have reported this to the Police immediately because it is a criminal matter. Why didn't he? What happened that day? We need to know the whole details.
