Kyle Busch updates on his injury after the Indy crash a few weeks ago. Busch says that without the two-week break, he would have had a race or two out.

He's absolutely right, the soft tire should just be the full time tire for all short tracks moving forward. Hell, I'd argue it should be used at road courses and Intermediates too.

They only need 1 tire. It needs to be the right tire. The current primary tire would be completely off the table if drivers had choice. They need a grippy tire that falls off consistently throughout the run. Just not so soft that we have another of the Brickyard races where they needed new tires ever 10 laps.

The whole idea of a softer option being faster isn’t what actually happens on track. If the car handles good on primary tires, going to a more grippy tire will only tighten it up and make it slower

I mean, snapping your wrist from the steering wheel isn't a Next Gen exclusive thing, happens in just about every other racecar but go off I guess

Except in terms of NASCAR it is infact a Next Gen exclusive thing. Next-gen car is the first NASCAR cup car to userack&pinion steering instead of the recirculating ball steering which the first six cup car generations used. It's a much more responsive and tight steering setup compared to the former. Small adjustments in the wheel cause more wheel movement. That's why the cars are so on edge at high speed because you wouldn't dare overcorrect the car and have it snap back right into the wall. It's basically like having a 16:1 steering ratio in the older generation cars versus an 8:1 steering ratio in terms of wheel response. Or in other words the next-gen cup car has a wheel with max force feedback settings, while the older cars had a low to average force feedback setting if that makes sense. When that tire catches the wrong way in a crash, very similar to an Indycar, the wheel will spin very violently and break thumbs and wrists before you can even react.
