I never understood firing people as much as the NHL does. You could run a series over a thousand times under the same circumstances and get a thousand different results. I think too many franchises just dump their staff and players after a bad series every year, then absolutely fail to even make the playoffs for the next 5+ years. I am not a Leafs fan, but I don't think the answer is to jump the gun and go on a firing spree, especially after finally winning a series. They had a great season and won a series, build on it instead of tearing it apart.

The Leafs are supposed to contend for a cup. Not win just a single series in 7 years. This year was progress but only by the strictest, technical definition; They weren't the better team for most of the series against Tampa (and you could argue that if Bunting doesn't elbow Cernak in the head, knocking him out for the rest of the series, Toronto might have lost in the 1st round AGAIN) and then they got bounced in 5 games the next round with the stars not showing up. Toronto has failed much more than once so a firing or two would be completely justified.

16 teams don't make the playoffs, 8 teams are eliminated in the first round, 4 teams are eliminating in the second round, 2 teams are eliminated in the conf finals, 1 teams loses in the finals. This constant bleating about how if you don't win the Stanley Cup, something is horribly wrong is stupid. The Maple Leafs had a better season than 3/4 of the leagus and had a shot. I believe the owners will have to decide the philosophy and the direction of this team before the personnel decision can be made. As for Kyle, he can be an AGM anywhere if he wants, but back at a GM position, he got to convince teams that he can build a cup contender team, unfortunately, he did not have that track record to do so. I will not be surprised if the Leafs bring him back as GM on a short leash, but some personnel changes on the management team will be made.

Samsonov and Murray are no upgrades to Campbell and defense core was very average. Rewatching this after the news that hes not coming back the clues were there. If I'm Shanny I would have waited awhile to process everything including this. Dubas will be working somewhere for a long time and probably has teams lining up to hire him. I'm not a Leafs fan, (Oilers fan) but man they are so close! The Oilers and Leafs parallels are uncanny. I think it would be a mistake to blow it up.

The reality is that the leafs didn't step up hardly at all during the playoffs. They barely beat Tampa. They were outplayed throughout that series as they were with Florida.... Keith and dubas can continue to sugar coated if they want from the unemployment line... Definitely time for some change.... Marner and Matthews seem to shrink in the Playoffs.... The duba's experiment has failed... He did make some necessary tweaks this year but it was too little too late and now someone else gets the opportunity to continue That process.

He's trash and signing Tavares and caving to Nylander were his biggest mistakes. I don't care what he does now to bolster the team, it doesn't matter the "big four" forwards are what is holding the team back and you can only improve the bottom six so many times by trading draft capital and prospects once you don't have those assets anymore you can't improve it anymore. Nylander isn't the problem, the handling of the negotiation was and I said it at the time so it isn't hindsight that caving is what gave Matthews and especially Marner massive leverage to play hardball with their negotiations. That and signing Tavares who wasn't needed instead of waiting for the opportunity to get another high level dman were the problems. Had Tavares not been signed and had Dubas not overpaid Marner and Matthews on their RFA deals they could have retained the depth they had and acquired more depth and better goaltending.

I agree. Can't pin this on Dubas. He's made the right moves and Keef delivered as well. Truth is Florida is a better team. Look at the goals by Florida vs Leafs and you can see the superior coordinated offensive brilliance vs Leafs who seem to get lucky on shots. Maybe bring in a scoring coach to help Keefe out.

THE CORE SHOULD THTHE CORE SHOULD THE CORE SHOULD STAY. Why? When we look back at the Leafs in 15-20, do you want to ask yourself..."Who was on that team?" If you have no loyalty to your players and a constant revolving door when things do not work out you wind up with NO PLAYER who will ever identify as a Leaf. You have a history of rentals. Players who join the team for 1-3 seasons and are gone. I do not want that. Dave Keon was kept 8 years after 1967. Sittler was there a decade with no cup. But since the 1970's the Leafs keep trading players whereas other teams keep players so the team has some kind of identity. These are good players. I want them to stay regardless. I want THEM to win as Leafs as opposed to an army of rentals who have NO LOYALTY to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Matthews, Nylander and Marner have invested time here. That is worth something. Winning a cup is not easy. 1 of 32 teams can do it. Only 8 teams of 32 make the final 8. They Leafs accomplished this year what most of the teams did not.

How about keeping it simple, Keefe could not get out of his own zone, without icing the puck. He had the best forwards in the game, going into corners and fighting for 50/50 pucks. The D once again led by a softy LW Reilly who is a horrible passer and play maker. Tavares, a selfish player , cannot and will not pass. super slow. In the O zone we have a system of D men taking most of the shots, Mathews could be wide open, but no it is the deadly shot Brodie and the other Lame shot D men. The only team I know that is still clearing the puck being down by 1 goal with 5 minutes to go. No matter how awful this D is and always has been. Bottom line Keefe like Babs had no breakout game. Keep the core and blow up the coaching staff and the D core minus Schenn, McCabe. Lose Reilly, Tavares, Kamph, Kerfoot, Muzz, Brodie, Holl. Knies-Mathews-Marner Robertson-O’Reilly-Nylander Bunting-Kadri-Marchment

Hopefully the Leaf organization is smart enough to reward Kyle with a new contract. From a corporate level, Kyle crafted a wonderful team, many great wins....the home crowds were sell outs. At the end, the team gave us more great games. Next year, we'll win it all. All thanks to Kyle Dubas.
