What a truly ace idea to use the black paint first, I've ruined many a background by adding it last and it's too heavy, but this is ideal. Love the addition of the gold paint too. And I just love how you and Nina come up with two totally different ideas each time, you really are fabulous artists and always give out an abundance of inspiration. Tfs xo

Thanks so much Elizabeth - I like having black as one of the first layers as it then gives depth to a piece but I always like to add a little bit as one of the final layers. The gold just lifts it a bit. Thanks again Elizabeth xo

Kylie - I learn so much from you - with every video. I tend to resist going full-in with dark colors. Watching you start with the black stencils - and then see what happened when you added the layers of paint and mark- making - inspired and encouraged me. I'm going down to the basement now to play with paint. Thank you!

Thanks so much Mari. I know ... when you see the amount of black on the page (and there really wasn't much white space left) you just think that it will totally dominate everything but once the layers of paint go on top it's amazing how the black goes into the background and actually then creates a sense of depth. I loved the black and white as well so I've made another one to use in future. Hugs for you too

What a fabulous way to start the day - Kylie and a cup of good morning coffee. What an incredible idea! I loved that you started with the black and white stenciling. That look all by itself was just amazing. I might try this, but will put some of the black and whites aside maybe hit them with some gold paint see what happens. I have a shoe box of craft paints that are getting old. I may have to stop what I am doing and give this a try. Awesome! TFS. I did. God bless and stay safe. I as trying to think what to use for paper. I have a lot of 12x12 scrapbook paper that I don’t like and will never use. I think I’ll use the plain white underside an see how that works.😄💕
@KylieCooStudio3 жыл бұрын
Hi Evelyn - as always, thank you so much for your kind comment. Putting the black down as the first layer adds depth to the finished piece which is why I like to do this. But when I had stencilled all over I really did love the black on white as it was - so I've made another like that. I also have some with black and red underneath - I'll show this another time. Yes - 12x12 papers would be good for this. Thanks again Evelyn - have a good Sunday

These are wonderful! I couldn’t tell if your acrylic paints were the translucent kind....it seemed like it because you can still see the black background images. I loved how you used up the paint left on the stencil and added it to the next page. Also, I like your method of “stamping” with the baker’s paper onto your journal page. Then I’m sure you can use the paper for collage or something too! Brilliant! Can’t wait to see what you make with these. TYFS ❤️🦋💜
@KylieCooStudio3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Cindy. Black will tend to show through a lot of paints unless they are very opaque and left on quite thick. So craft paint applied in a thin layer as I was doing will always let the black show through. The Dylusions paints ended up as a thin layer because I was speeding them very thinly as well. It really gives a nice effect. I try and always use as much paint as I can. Thanks again :)

Hi Kylie! I love all these pieces! Can't wait to see all they become. Isn't it funny how a product becomes different with a different technique like the Dylusions. Glad you tried something new. I hate it when I let a product sit because I am not happy with it.
@KylieCooStudio3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Laura - I just took out the Dylusions thinking that it would be a way to start using them up (even if I don't like a product I find it hard to get rid of it - I probably would have donated them but with everything being closed even that is difficult now). Anyway, because I wanted the first layer to show through it became apparent that they do work best in this way. I actually want to get them in more colours now! Thanks again :)

Great video, different approaches to making these backgrounds. I am curious as to what "makes" of paints you use, and where I can purchase them.
@KylieCooStudio3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks Elizabeth. The Dylusion paints (the ones I blended together) come in a range of colours and are available from many places online. I think I got mine from Amazon but they are also available from Craftstash, Art From The Heart and many others. I've not seen them in any actual 'real life' shops anywhere near where I am. The craft acrylics I have are different makes including Pebeo, Hobbycraft's own brand, Americana, Artiste, and Crafter's Acrylic. Most of these I bought through Amazon, Hobbycraft or The Range. I just had a look at The Range website and they have them at a reasonable price just now at £1.25 (though Metallics and pearl paints are more expensive at £1.99). And of course they are available in lots of places online. I know that Arteza also do a set of 20 Craft Paints and it looks like they are a good price just now - I haven't tried them but going by their other products I would expect them to be a good quality (if you need more info on them let me know.) I think craft acrylics are good as they come in many different colours, shades etc and their size means that they don't take up a lot of space. My biggest issue with them is the cost - they are generally a lot less expensive in the US especially with sales and discounts. Sometimes if the likes of Hobbycraft has offers on for other acrylics such as Pebeo, Daler Rowney, Sennelier, or their own brand paints then per ML these can sometimes be not much more expensive. But not at the moment! Hobbycraft's own brand acrylic paint works out at just a little bit more at £2.00 for 75ml but you will get a slightly thicker paint for that. So, it's pretty good value just now. I hope this is helpful and if you do want to ask any more about paints then please let me know. :)

Hi Trish - thanks so much for your kind comment and your sub - much appreciated. The flower stencil is 'The Crafters Workshop Flower Frenzy 6x6 Inch Stencil'. I think I bought mine from Amazon UK but I had a quick look online just now and it seems to be available in quite a few places. It looks like it's currently being sold for around £6 / US$8. I've had it a few years now and use it quite a bit so to me it has been value for money. Hope that helps. :)

@@KylieCooStudio thank you so much for your efforts to let me know and also look for one for me. I have now found several. Will find the best one for postage to Australia.

These are great backgrounds Kylie, you showed a lot of really nice ideas. Will start to make some tomorrow. Thanks for showing! Loved the sound of the snow. It's been snowing here (centre of the Netherlands) a few days, just small flakes, but continuously, so we are in a white world at the moment. Hugs and take care.

Hi Tonia - thanks so much for your kind comment. I saw that the Netherlands was having its worst snow in a decade. It snowed more here overnight maybe around 15cm and it's been snowing off and on all day today. Take care and hugs for you too

@@KylieCooStudio Hi Kylie, We had quite some snow in the Netherlands, in some places a little, in some places A LOT (up till 25 cm was measured). Due to the (harsh and cold) wind, there were locally big differences. In our garden (5x10 m) we measured from about 3 up till 15 cm, because the wind was blowing the snow around in circles. I hope you understand what I mean. So, a lot of snow, but not as severe as in Scotland at the moment I think. These days a lot of people are hoping it will freeze long enough to go iceskating, but with covid it will be difficult keeping distance, so a lot of possible rivers and lakes are being closed down by the authorities. It is beautiful sunny, although cold, weather so we try to walk every day. Keep warm, healthy and safe. Hugs.

Yes I know what you mean - we would call that snow drifts - where the snow is blown by the wind and settles against wall and doors or by the side of roads. Take care. Hugs
