Totally agree with the man talking about how it is cheaper to attend a race in Europe rather than the Las Vegas GP. Got a 3 day grandstand ticket to the Netherlands for next year cheaper than the Las Vegas GP general admission 3 day. Not including flights though. An Airbnb in a small town outside of Zandvoort was really cheap for 5 days as well with the train being a very reasonable option to get to the track. Just really unfortunate that the average American fan can’t attend.

It actually pisses me off that certain businesses can be highly impacted negatively by an event. The day they turn around Monaco and close every balcony from public view, is the day they can do this type of shit. No one should suffer because of an entertainment event. These events should have a major positive impact to the citizens of that place, not only the big casinos and the major corporations.

@BrianHoff044 күн бұрын
@@KymIllman If I recall, last year F1 was charging businesses along the track a certain amount of money for people that "might be able to see" the track during the race events. And that the amount was ludicrous. Denny's was interviewed about that last year. So, I suspect that charge still exists and Denny's has decided to close down their balcony area (and the sales that would have come from actual customers) rather than have to pay an exorbitant fee based on "potential people viewing" a race while dining at Denny's. That's where things go off the rails. That somehow Denny's (a private property) can even be subject to a fee they cannot afford because they happen to be adjacent to an event they did not make happen. This is about corporate greed as well as local Government over-reach. Probably costs too much money to challenge if this is even legal. I feel bad for the small market shown in the video. And the dude that said he flew his family to another country to watch an F1 race because the costs to attend it in his own city are too high. That's not how this should work. Not at all.

I feel like its kinda stupid and counter productive to go to such lengths to stop casual observers. 99% of them would not be paying customers anyway. If you let a casual diner have a few glimpses you might actually convert them into a fan. With all this blocking, well you precluding the opportunity of growing your audience at all. I think the extremely minimal loss in sales would be worth the exposure to the non-F1 initiated public. I mean some areas of obstruction are certainly reasonable, but some are not. It just smacks of greed and squeezing every drop out of the viewers.

I always find it fascinating that most F1 tracks put their largest block of grandstands on the straights. As any true race fan knows, the action and the beauty takes place in the turns. I attended the one and only CART race in Downtown Vegas. The difference between that race and the F1 race was like the difference between a fine restaurant and a taco truck.
@sultanoftippoo38576 күн бұрын
Yes there are Grandstands on the main start/finish line straights but that’s for several reasons; 1: these Grandstands overlook the pits so fans of the cars see pit stops etc. 2: it’s where the race starts so fans see the build up to the race (celebs on grid etc) 3: it’s where the race finishes so fans see the podium ceremony Beyond that I can’t think of many long straights at any F1 venue away from the start/finish that have Grandstands (maybe Monza on the run up to Parabolica but that stand is at the exit of the Ascari chicane). What other tracks are you referring to?

The traffic flow seemed to be much better this year than it did last year. Just got home from a weekend at Wynn. Was out at Mirage last October when they were completing all of the paving associated with the circuit. Getting to and from the airport was much easier this year. It seems that either the locals have figured out different routes or there is genuinely less interruption. Pedestrian navigating was more my most noticed impact. Crossing the Strip is more limited to a few bridges and a few select at grade crossings. It would be interesting to see how things look on actual race weekend. We noticed a lot of tourists coming into town for the race. Seems like the ticket market is more steady than it was last year. Enjoy your trip and keep creating great content.

I've always been of the opinion that street circuits are for the most part bad because they're typically too narrow with minimal run-offs and therefore produce little in the way of racing. However this video points out a whole new level of bad as these temporary tracks displace the locals and ruins local businesses. I always hear the excuse that bringing F1 to a city is a major boost to the local economy, but the truth is that whatever money is made as a result of F1 taking place never actually goes into the local economy, leaving those small businesses severely out of pocket, which in turn means that lay-offs of staff throughout the event are highly probable and would severely impact the ability of those workers to put food on the table for their families. Street circuits suck in every conceivable way imaginable.

We have Sonoma, Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca. Surely at least one of these is a better option than the Vegas strip.

They are sure better but the owners of these track don’t have a couple of hundred million dollars to pay for F1, even iconic tracks in Europe like Spa are struggling. With the current arrangement, track owners and organizers definitely hold the short end of the stick while F1/Liberty, FIA, Race Teams and drivers get to enjoy the money with their luxurious lifestyle.

We also have Indianapolis motor speedway road course.. Of course one of the worst races in F1 history took place there but that was a tire issue… track pavement issue….

I don’t get why people are upset with the blocking of the strip for the local commuters. Any real local wouldn’t drive on the strip to get to work.

I live in Vegas and had no idea the F1 race was this weekend. I live and work far from the Strip, traffic and road closures wont be an issue. In the last 15yrs I've only been on or near the Strip twice.

Just so everyone knows, the reason for all the rules are because of how people in the states act. Common sense and decency are not traits we show very often.

Great video and well done for successfully walking that route - Vegas is not set up for pedestrians (beyond the strip at least)!

It needs to be held in the summer if it’s going to be at night. Switch it with Miami on the calendar. Miami is still very warm this time of year

@@KymIllman Vegas (the strip) is in America but it isn’t America, if that makes sense. It’s a strange place and much different from the classic ‘Hollywood’ Vegas it once was. The city itself is very normal.

Woah, now I'm glad i didn't bother making the trip. I was planning on going and getting to see the race from somewhere in the public. They're already raising the prices of the rooms ×10 for the race weekend, oughta be able to see the race, even if only from far away

The covered walkways make sense. Tge glass has a film that was destroyed last year. I was there a week after the race and every walkway on both sides had to have it peeled off, glass cleaned then reapplied. Its like a clear window tint but much much thicker. Guy told me each glass panel takes one guy 15 min. If not on glass vandals will scratch glass. I dont know what they all assume F1 should be free or cheap Its the same expensive show worldwide.. Its better on tv... Until danica speaks

I hope that the small business owners get some monetary reimbursement from F1 for all their troubles. The big companies will survive regardless but it's the mom and pop stores that I worry about.

Completely irrelevant to the topic, but that law that stops people from stopping on the pedestrian bridges seems more like a safety "procedure" than anything else. I don't know what types of loads those bridges were designed for, but I think it'd be fair to assume they never thought that the whole bridge would be packed full of people like a subway cart at rush hour for ~2h. Therefore, they came up with that law to ensure the authorities have the right to remove people from the bridges. That's what I like to think, anyways. On the other hand, it is the US, so who knows for sure... 😅
