Kyokushin sparring

Some prefer to spar hard , some light. This is an old debate and I will not argue about it. I competed successfully in kyokushin for more then 10 years and I have been training and teaching for over 25 years now. I am healthy and fit , still very flexible and pretty strong at age 42. I have seen many karateka sparring and fighting very hard , but most of them are not even training anymore due to their injuries accumulated over the years. If I want, I can go hard also, but this is not something that I am interested at this time in my life. I am training karate not just for fighting , but also as a healthy exercise and life style and I intend to stay like this a long-long time. I have a full-time job and a karate studio in the evening where I teach about 14 classes a week - an injury is not my priority . Good luck to those who prefer to go hardcore all the time ! I will see if they can still practice and be healthy after 30-40 years of ,,hardcore,, fighting .

To anyone dismissive of the amount of contact here, it is SPARRiNG, not competition. Assumedly everyone has to go to work tomorrow in one piece. I don't train in kyokushin, but I've fought plenty of them in tournaments in Japan in my younger days, and the sparring we did in training was this kind of tempo. The contact went up several levels for gradings, and up again to full bore for comps.Full contact training doesn't mean you take every opportunity to knock each other out. That said, if you walked into a head shot and end up on your butt, you wouldn't get much sympathy at my dojo, and I imagine it's the same with kyokushin.Nice video, guys.

OSU! With respect sensei, but I would simply ignore those who are posting about the level of intensity here. I'm 42 myself, and the way you are sparring here is at the level of intensity at which I generally spar myself. I believe that this is a very useful kind of sparring - very technical, good speed, contact that will definitely be felt, so what is there to complain about? And 10 rounds like this are a test of stamina for me every time. If I may say so, but you are at a technical level that is so advanced that many others can only dream about it. So: Well done! Why go harder when no competition is coming up? Injuries suck and are no fun. Before anyone posts anything smart here: Let's see! Post your own videos! OSU!

I do kickboxing, and sparred with a kyokushin champ and planning to study it. It was NOTHING like this. It was brutal. Guess they're taking it easy for something
