My dad (70) has been a metro bus driver since the 80s and I can pull up the LA Noire map and he'll point out where his stops would have been and loves hearing the street names and seeing the older buildings that are still standing today. It's something the game provides that gta 5 can't quite give. Loved seeing this praise piece for this game 🥲

I remember before it was released reading about the meticulous research into LA’s historical buildings and neighborhoods and the actual cases they adapted, similar to the work that went into RDR2. If that research is still available to draw upon, it could be a head start on a sequel.

LA Noire really shows the strength of a tight story and experience. You don't need filler, although it does have that. The graphics can be a little bad, gameplay can be slow etc. You don't even need complex characters - a lot of characters in LA Noire are tropes plain and simple. But it has vision, it has passion, and it does what it wants to do incredibly well. Sure it's made to sell and make money but it's actual art and you can tell. The vibe and atmosphere it gives off is just incredible. And because of that, it sticks in your head, and means you will probably give a sequel a go even if it's different - just because the first was so memorable.

Went back for the Ps4 platinum last year and couldnt agree more with this review. as someone in their teens when it originally launched, i played this game decidedly dissapointed because i was an immature GTA fan at the time, so being limited to being a lawfull cop and not having the option to massacre the populace at my whim i became bored almost immediately. But returning as a jaded adult with more focus, i found myself totaly enthrawled in the story and the juxtaposition of its characters in the world.

To me, the way to do a sequel would be to keep the same time period-ish and switch the city. So you could have NY Noire, SF Noire, Chicago Noire, which would keep a consistent branding for the series. Another thought would be to add smaller cases into the mix of the story cases. Blending them together so you pick up and solve cases as you go. It would only be as you investigate that the player would realise whether or not the case was a major one contributing to the overall plot or a minor side case. Although they could play with such a format such that a series of seemingly minor cases would pay off as a big one further into the story. Other thoughts are to vary the protagonist. Sometimes a police detective like Phelps, sometimes a private investigator. Of course the key to this would be to do a bloody sequel in the first place. But as you say, I think Rockstar's focus is elsewhere.

Seriously one of my all time favorite games. They all tend to come from Rockstar. Had a chokehold on the industry during the 2000s and 2010s. Hope they rebound strong with GTA 6 and then pour time into stuff like LA Noire 2, Bully 2, RDR3/Red Dead’s new installment, etc. Really want to see them back on top, especially after they’ve gained a reputation for being terrible (rightfully) post RDR2.

I'd love to see a sequel one day, but instead of something like "L.A. Noire 2" i'd like something set in a different city, but during the same time period, my idea is "N.Y. Noire" imagine that, a late 1940's detective thriller game set in New York City...that would be an amazing sequel, if it ever happened.

It's nice when a game (somewhat) actually wants you to figure things out. I thought LA Noire would have been GTA from the other side lol but I'm glad it isn't. Oh I only played the remaster and the "Good Cop/Bad Cop" messed me up at first bc they do not imply "Truth/Doubt" to me. Odd choice. It's not the same (and is a lil janky) but I've been playing a game called The Sinking City which also tasks you with figuring stuff out yourself which I appreciate.

Here are some good sequels and the time periods that they could take place in LA noire 2-takes place in 1990s Los Angeles and it's like GTA San Andreas but played from the perspective or point of view of a good cop Miami noire-takes place in 70s or 80s Miami and is also loosely based on miami vice. NY noire-takes place in New York city.. based on the godfather movies or mafia games or think GTA 3 or liberty city stories but also played from the perspective of a cop and you fight against mafia groups Detroit Noire-takes place in Detroit Chicago noire-takes place in Chicago. All games involves at least two protagonists that you can switch in between similar to GTA V.

@@CaseyAvalon it would also be more fun if the games will feature safehouses where players can customize their protagonist's attire ranging from their police uniforms to regular clothing or even special ones. And there should also be garages where vehicles can be stored regardless if stolen from civilians or special vehicles. If played in a two or three protagonists system, each individual protagonist will own a safehouse that is not accessible to the other or others unless it's a shared safehouse that both or all can use

I would love a sequel that breaks the traditional noir mold of the 20’s-50’s and have a real gripping mystery set in the grimy and addled 1970’s. Preferably NYC but I think the LA setting would work maybe even more perfectly. The ugly side of Hollywood totally exposed, the quick and dramatic end of the Utopian dream of the future that was prevalent in the 60’s, maybe one man, perhaps a Vietnam veteran who witnessed a war crime has to have some kind of impact on reversing the all absorbing evil of the world by solving the murders of women and children, almost to redeem himself to the slaughtered souls that he stood by and watched be thrashed away.

As i've said since the game originaly came out back in 2011. L.A. Noire is a game that i have a slight love hate relationship with. I love it for what it is. But i kind of hate it for what it could have been. We know the development wasn't an easy one. Team Bondi is dead and gone for good reason. It was a mess of a studio. And hadn't Rockstar stepped in to help development at the end, the game would never have come out. So i 100% believe a L.A. Noire sequel made with Rockstar's love and care with some of the original staff hired in for the sake of continuity, would be a game of the year contender. I fully see your argument about the game being a non open world open world game being good. But i also think the game had a needlesly big world. Now, i wouldn't want to make the world smaller. Instead, i would make the game more dynamic. Not with a ton of sidequests like RDR2 and GTAV. But as in a story shaped by you the player a bit more. Fact is, in L.A. Noire you simply can't fail. What if in a sequel you can fail. And failing comes at a cost such as demotion. Like having to take on some smaller cases or work the streets for a bit. Naturally with interesting content to not make it a pain. I would also add optional life to the world. Such as an off duty mode you can opt into between cases. Where you can actually get a glimps into the family life of the main character. Giving you more of an idea of who you are. Maybe the option to go Bowling with your coworkers? Grabing a drink? Or buy a new uniform to stick out more. Totally optional side stuff that doesn't interupt the story. But allows you to getmore insight into the character you play as. So imagine that. A game that gives you the option to leave work and do something on the side without it being sidequests. And a more dynamic nature to the story where you don't need to click the right prompt to get all the details. Where you can push in other ways to get results. Maybe allowing you to be a corrupt cop? And then in the optional spare time mode, you can see how it effects the character. I just know that L.A. Noire only scraped the surface of it's potential. And there's way more they could do with the concept. As for a setting... I was thinking maybe 1960's - 1970's New York. It would 100% fit the Noire style. And it's a time periode that fits the gameplay. N.Y. Noire sounds nice. I just hope Rockstar can make a course correct soon and get back to what made them so great back in the day. Multiple franchises. Not just those that allowed them to bring in microtransactions. Not that a L.A. Noire Multiplayer couldn't work for a dedicated fanbase. If done right, it could be a nice roleplaying experience. But i don't think Rockstar is good enough at developing Multiplayer games for that.

You seem to have allot of the same ideas I have. I do think Random Encounters would be good for this as well As far as side quests maybe having Few like The Warriers which had really fleashed out ones. But I think Taking Inpriation From Witcher 2 With a braching story would be amazing.
